The thought of combining their mothers into something of a super mom made him laugh rather loudly. Much louder than he'd wanted to. Hopefully no one else had been disturbed.
"Yeah but, if we combined our mothers, we'd be long lost siblings. That would be one hell of a discovery at our ages," he said brightly, laughter finally dying down to a low chuckle. As weird as the suggestion was, it was nice to see Yvette being a bit more free and happy. It seemed like a small victory considering what they had just gone through. He supposed the cookies were a good idea after all. Cookies always lifted people's spirits if they were good cookies. Even leaving a plate of cookies out for company made everything seem better.
Though the cookies weren't really making him feel better. He hadn't meant to show his discomfort so readily in front of her. He figured he'd been hiding it rather well. Maybe it was the extra cookie that had been his downfall. Still, he tried to keep the smile on his face even though it had drastically faded. "My stomach hurts a bit but I'll be okay. It's probably all the medicines that did it. They like to pump you full of that stuff..." Topher hadn't meant to make her worry. When his blue eyes met hers, the blue color seemed a bit more drained than normal. Whether it was from pain or guilt, it was anyone's guess. "I think I just need some good old rest and relaxation. Then I'll be back to my normal self!"

The suggestion of them becoming siblings really seemed to cause quite the reaction in Yvette. She hadn't even THOUGHT about such a thing, and though she considered Topher to be a really close friend, she couldn't imagine him being a brother.
"Uh... um..." she managed to stutter out as her cheeks turned scarlet in color. She tried again. "Uh uh uh... th-that w-would be..." Her voice got quiet, as if she was trying to figure out the best word to describe the emotions she was feeling. Her tiny voice eventually managed to find the perfect word. "...weird." Silly Yvette, over thinking the situation yet again.
If anything, Topher had managed to successfully distract her from her worrying thanks to that comment. So when he finally addressed her concerns, she was no longer looking at him in a worried fashion. She nodded her head gently and attempted to find her voice again to agree with him. "That makes sense. I know my stomach sometimes doesn't like medicines I have to take."
Her voice quieted again before she offered the most sincere "I hope you feel better soon." She smiled before attempting to move her new box of cookies over to a nearby table that was usually used for bouquets of flowers. It would have been nice to have flowers, but she knew her parents were always the types to pick flowers rather than to buy them. Mid turn, the girl couldn't help but wince slightly. Even with all the medication floating through her system, she could still feel a bit of pain apparently. She quickly snapped back to how she had been sitting before, firmly plopping her back against the hospital bed. Not wanting to make a big deal over that miniature twinge of pain, she quickly resumed chewing on her cookie again. However, she was nearly out of cookie, which meant she was nearly without any sort of distraction.

" I don't understand why they make medicine so...unfriendly. You'd think they'd actually help without making you feel sick to your stomach or something." If he wasn't completely sore on top of the nausea, it probably would've been a little easier to handle. A little. Though, it was probably the lesser of two evils. The pain beforehand had been much worse than what he was feeling at the moment even with the sick feeling included.
Though, even with the distraction of his own thoughts, Topher was able to notice her wince. it wasn't too hard considering that a lot of people had that expression in this wing. Had he started wearing off his welcome? "Maybe I should let you get some rest? Might make you feel a bit better?" Topher offered a gentle smile which twitched into a grimace as he stood up from the chair, an arm cradling his abdomen. "I better get going anyway. If they see me walking around like this, I'm not going anywhere. I'd rather be at home sleeping than here looking at white walls all day."
When you figured you were going to die for the better half of a year, going home and sleeping sounded like the best idea ever.

The girl peered up from her cookie, looking at her friend with big eyes. The last bits of cookie were tossed into her mouth and she chewed on the pieces in an almost careful fashion. When she finished, Topher had been standing. His smile made her feel calm, even when it wobbled due to his own discomfort.
"Th-thank you Topher for visiting." Her tiny smile managed to lighten her features for a moment, her expression a pleasant mix of contentment and gratitude. As her friend turned away, she offered a nearly sleep wave to him. She watched him hobble off almost like an old man, letting out a small sigh.
At least she had company for a little bit. Somewhere in her sleepy mind, she couldn't help but wish that he had been able to stay longer. When Topher was no longer visible, she glanced back up to the TV. Her eyelids were slowly growing a bit heavier as she attempted to fight off sleep. Sleep always won over. The last thing she remembered on the TV was some sort of show about a hospital. Talk about irony.
