"Shut up before she bites." A tug of reins and the wolf more or less spit out the human to the dirt, not caring for his fall and turned it's teeth on a rather brave human while her rider kicked another away with the steel toe plating on her boot heel. Glory seekers, obviously. But her attention turned to the one who had been making such a speech of honor that night before. What was he crazy? Did he think this was a good idea. Another elbow to the face of an over eager soldier. "It's not a good day for victory human!"

Of course her own routes of getting out of the mess that landed her more or less directly into the fray of humans whom were now squabbling at her for bragging rights clearly sent a message to her own kin. Wolf rider out in the front lines in the middle of the battle apparently clearly said charge with all they had and the elven army was indeed not shy to leave their forests to attack then.

However they clearly were not rushing foolishly as the ground started to shake in a walking rhythm, unsettling the footing of soldiers and mounts alike. No one had to wonder long what was amking such quaking motions however as the various created golems came from the wood, crushing and smashing anything that was more or less in their paths. Well...anything that wasn't on their side.

"Inspiration was not the goal...." And now she was probably pegged as a leading body of said army probably. Just great.

Randall made a small sound as he was spat back onto the ground. Quickly he got up and looked around to see both his own kind and the elves fighting each other and he quietly shook his head. "It shouldn't be like this!" So he grabbed one of his fellow human solders and punched him. "Stop fighting and get out of here now before you're killed!" He then pushed said man away before facing an elf, though Randall drew his blade and he held it out in a way which showed he was not going to attack. "I don't want to fight you! Just go away and tend to your own kind!" And he reinforced his saying by backing away slowly before turning to a few of his people who were close to the golem that suddenly came out of the woods. "Get away from that thing! Fall back damn it!" Why didn't anyone want to listen? Life was much better than being crushed underneath a damn tree.

His attention briefly turned to the wolf riding woman, and then back to the golems.

"Stay away from the wolf, your attentions are needed elsewhere!"

Today may not have been a good day for a victory, she was right. but there was a point to prove here. adn that point was they weren't coawrd to flee at the first challenges.

"Ballista, aim for the golems! Bring them down! The rest avoid them if you can! rally to the center!"

Damn it...this was not going well but they had to make a stand, to let thier enemy know they won't run at the first sight of these things or they'd just employ them everytime. At least put up a fight before retreating. Surely the wolf rider would understand that.

Ugh. Key booted away another young soldier again before plopping her hand over her face. This was not her doing! She wasn't even attacking them, they were attacking her! A whine from her mount had her turning her eyes up just as a golem was smashing a hand down more or less right where she was. Such creations didn't care for whom was in front of them. They were in the enemy zone and that meant smashing.

"Don't fear my darling, we're not with them but they are not with us either. Let's show them that." Pulling out a throwing knife there was a command and snap of reins given. The wolf circled away from the hand that slammed into the ground before hopping up on it and running up the rocky formed arm, avoiding the second grasping hand. Up, up, and up to the golems head and leaping over it from it's shoulders, Key flinging the knife in her hand into the golem's forehead and the action seemed to cause it great grief, if not pain for it couldn't feel that.

The two now free falling through the air they landed heavily back into the dirt, the elf more or less projected from her saddle from impact and the wold rather stunned for a moment. Skidding to a stop she was back up on her feet and pulling out her daggers, heading back to her friend to fend off a soldier or two that wasn't listening to orders from someone wise and would find great glee in taking a giant wolf pelt home, as well as an occasional elf that wasn't happy with her display. "Get up my friend. Shake it off and find your feet!"

Pride on both sides had become the driving factor rather than logic in this battle. And once pride got in the way, perhaps everyone was doomed to fail at the task at hand. Frankly she didn't care at this point. She wanted herself and her friend out of this mess and alive, with as many appendages as possible still attached perferably.

Which meant of course battle waged on, even if one golem seemed preoccupied with the knife in it's forehead than with smashing the small meaty things on the battlefield. Though it's struggling did make it bad for all who came close to it getting smashed and such. Less effective but still dangerous. Some of the elves seemed smarter to fall back some of thier own discretion, others let pride get in the way and continued to fit until they were dead or incapacitated.

And there was death, a lot of death. Death was not on good terms with Randall for he had escaped the skeleton's clutches a few times. But it seemed that said angel was busy with those who were too foolish to protect their backs to even watch out for the giant pieces of earth that decided to fall of them. "They're all bloody fools." Randall was glad he got out of the army, at least if he were to die it would be on his own terms. But at the moment he was busy tripping an elf solder before moving on to at least try to get his people to back away. Most of the time his words fell on deaf ears but there were some men who he was able to get through to, and Randall had a feeling the reason he was able to convince them to get away from the battle was either they were scared or they had someone important they missed.

A giant noise of golem hand smacking dirt caused Randall to veer his attention toward it. It was then that he saw the elf and her wolf who happened to carry him into battle run up its arm so the rider could get close enough to lodge a knife in its forehead. Now that was odd, why would an elf attack a being that her own kind made? That did not make sense unless she wasn't on the side of the elves, and that even made less sense because Randall believed that all elves were together, there were never deserters and such. When he saw the elf land Randall kept his eye on her, she was different than the other elves and he knew that she was the last person who wanted to be here, just like him. Though there was also the fact that she sort of helped him get out of the woods earlier, if it wasn't for that he could of been killed by who knew what, so it was time to return the favor.

As the elf and her wolf were doing their best to defend themselves a ring of fire suddenly appeared around them when the elf was able to strike back the last human she was fighting. There was a breif moment of confusion before Randall leaped through the fire, landing close to the elf and her wolf but without his blade drawn. "Hey!" Though he raised his hands quickly as it seemed she was going to strike him. "No! Whoa, I'm not here to fight you!" And Randall backed up his words when a few humans jumped in. With his quick reflexes Randall broke a nose, made one clutch his stomach as the air in his lungs was pushed out, and a gave few bruises before he pushed them back through the fire, not bruning them of course, so they wouldn't bug them again. "I'm paying you back for the ride you gave me." Randall told her before going after an elf who leaped into the circle, all he hoped was the golems were distracted long enough so they can get the hell away from the battle without getting squashed.

One golem out of control...but the ballista operators saw the cause and hit another golem dead in the head with one of the bolts from their weapon, which brought it down.,,aanother was slowrd with botls in it's legs. that would be good enough to show the elves they could fight these things too.

"Fall back! full retreat to more fortified positions! my battalion, stay with me, we'll act as the shield for the Ballista. Full Retreat! fall back! we're not going to be able to take all these things down!"

throwing a knife over at one of the soldiers that was after the wofl rider, pining him in the shoulder.

"I said leave her be! Full retreat! get your asses back to the center and protect the Ballista, you just got drafted to be part of the shield!"

Backing his legion up slowly, keeping a protective cover of the much slower moving weapons.

He found himself almost stabbed indeed but lucky for him, he was quick to show his colors to her. Seeing as he didn't fear fire and the way it had come up, she could take a good guess that it was his spell. Helped his cause that he was pushing back people just as she was, regardless of their ears. "Then you can keep repaying me and cover me." Turning her attention to the obviously ailing wolf, urging her to her feet and through the fire. Taking hold of reins she tugged, gaining whimpers from her friend but compliance and drooped ears as well. "When we're safe we can rest and tend to you. Come on human!" Though a blink at the knife that took down one last eager soldier and the direction it came from. Oh good, he was going to have some sense now and make a tactical retreat. At least she didn't have to worry about them right now as she was more concerned with getting her mount and herself into some cover and let this prideful battle dissolve. Then she was getting the hell out of here soon as she was able. Hopefully those stupid humans wouldn't send out a scouting party to try and finish her off or something equally moronic.

Of course humans backing off meant they were counting this as a victory and took means to push the other forces back more before they started backing down themselves and undoing fires and what not. They had won this battle, regardless of why or how.

Randall was glad he didn't show up with a sword or a knife drawn, it looked like the elf was ready to hit him the moment she saw steel, though he didn't blame her. Quietly he made the fire burn higher, he wanted to keep morons out but it didn't stop the brave from actually trying to get at them. "Be glad to do so elf." It was rare to meet someone who did not want to kill you, so Randall found her to be a good ally in fighting off anyone with rounded or tipped ears. But when it seemed that the battle was coming to a close Randall glanced around to see if anyone was going to try anything funny; though when he was called by the elf he released his fire spell, causing the ring to drop and followed the elf as she went off into the woods to gain some cover. Still, he hoped that both sides would be licking their wounds and counting their dead than to bother him and the elf he helped, he wasn't in the mood to be hiding from a scouting party.

As soon as they both made it into the woods Randall went into a sprint and caught up to the elf, walking by her but not close enough since even though they helped each other, it didn't mean they were on a first name basis. The elf was worried about her wolf and Randall knew that since she was distracted it be better for him to keep and eye out, just in case they had any unwelcomed visitors. "Question, do you have a place close by that we can rest?" Since he was following her it be better to ask that question instead of trying to lead, the woods belonged to her after all.

She continued to urge her limping friend along who did not take the fall well for them. Deeper into the woods though to the more sidelined parts that were on either sides of camps and such. She didn't want to be in the thick of elven territory but she didn't want to be in the open either. Eventually she picked a spot behind an outcropping of rocks and a downed tree, letting the wolf lay down and she start to take off the set of tack her mount wore alone with the wooden carved saddle. "No I don't. But here is good...you can stay till you catch your breath."

Wolf stripped she pulled the hood of her cloak down so she could see better and went to feeling the creature out...nothing seemed broken. Maybe it was just a strained leg and general soreness from impact with the hard ground. "You can tell that captain of yours that he made a wise decision." Of course she was assuming he was with that attacking force that was lucky enough to have a smart leader.

Walking, walking, walking and more walking. It seemed the longer they walked the deeper they went into the forest; but Randall knew that they were not totally in the forest but some part of it where it was kind of safe. Still the elf did keep her wolf moving, it made sense to take it somewhere where it can rest far away from the battle. And when they did stop near some dead tree and rocks Randall sighed as he sat down on the flattest rock he could find. "Thanks." Quietly he grabbed a water-skin that was hidden underneath his coat, it was filled with water but flat so it didn't bulged out and people could spot it. He took a pull of the liquid before taking it off his person and holding it out to the elf. "Here, it's just water."

Though soon Randall was taking off his gloves, checking his cut fingers and bruised knuckles. He then pulled up his pant legs to check the many hits that were taken on his shins, they weren't bad but they would bother him for awhile. After checking the normal areas for damage Randall pulled out some objects and began to wrap up the wounds on his hands. "He's not my Captain." Randall told the elf as he wrapped up his ring finger. "I left that army over awhile ever since we came to this place. Got sick of having to put my life on the line for people who didn't even care for me, and fight for a cause we have long forgotten anyway." After taking care of the final cut on his hand Randall put his stuff away and put his gloves back on. "I've been living in the woods so to speak, close to the camp so I can steal food and keep and eye out in case there is a battle, like today." There was a slight pause as he took the water-skin again and took another pull before capping it and unhooking the strap so he could place it under his coat again. "What about you? To me actually attacking a thing made by my own kind is kind of against what my people are trying to do, though I'm guessing you don't care for this war either hm?"

Licking thier wounds was hardly what they were doing, but he was sitting in the makeshift camp in a far more fortified position, cleaning his blade and his armor, glancing up when someone came to his tent, someone who by looking at him, was important.

"I was informed of your actions on the battlefield, Captain De'Lere."

he barely shrugged his shoulders, and went about cleaning his armor, setting aside his sword and cleaning up on his breastplate.

"What of them?"

the other man frowned.

"You called off attack on an enemy officer, you assaulted on of yur own soldiers, and you retreated from a battle that could have been won for no good reason."

Lucan looked up.

"First, she was not an enemy officer, and probably not even a member of the opposing force. second, when I give orders, they will be followed, or the people that refuse I deal with. and third, you tell me how five ballista are going to deal with probably at least a dozen or more of those golems that only seem to be even worried about hits to the head. we're not beating them without magic."

The other man looked unconvinced, and Lucan rubbed the bridge of his nose lightly.

"You knew how I treat those in my command when you wanted me out here. get me mages, or get me something to counter them, or go back to your desk in your fortresses and leave the fighting to those of us that have spent our lives out training new troops or fighting your battles. I've no time for your petty grievances given to you second hand by an obviously disgruntled soldier that didn't pay attention when I told them I would enforce my rulings by force if needed. I was there, you were not, and I know when a battle is won, lost, or at a stalemate."

this other man obviously was not used to being talked to in that manner, and opened his mouth to object before he was unceremoniously shoved to the side out of the tent.

"How dare you---"

That got Lucan to spin around on his heel.

"How dare I? this is how I dare. I have killed many elves today and crippled many more. I've seen these young men running in fear from creatures of wood and stone that feel no pain even as they get crushed. I see them crawling on the battlefield, bloody, beaten, sliced open, looking more like butchered animals then men. You love to talk about all these great victories you have. How many did you actually fight in? or did you hide behind your nobility and titles and sit in teh back on some hill watching as real soldier and real men died for your honor and 'glory in battle'?"

Okay this was gathering some attention now, and the higher ranking officer was getting a bit flustered and pushed back some by the lower ranking but much older man in front of him.

"So don't patronize me with how dare I and what you think a battle that's winable is when the most uncomforatble or close to a battlefield you've been in years has been from sitting on your horse a dozen miles away looking through an eyeglass...if you even have the strength to hold one of those up. or do you just have some seer summon the images up for you to see? Now get out of my camp, away from my soldiers, before your stupidity and cowardice infects the lot of them!"

That got a lot of stares and blinks..and murmurs about they're soon to be executed captain...before the younger man trying to gather up the shreds of his dignity, got on his mount and left camp.

"lieutenant. put that no account little rat that made those complaints on all night watch. maybe this time he'll follow orders, and he'll have nothing to complain about but a lack of sleep. I want a scout to track or the wolf riderm under flag of treaty, adn invite her back here."

"But, sir..."

"I'm in no mood for but sirs right now. do as you are told. she offered advice and aided us amidst the conflict, so I want to know who she is for sure. be it some elf girl that wandered into a conflict, or someone who is a friend to men."
PostPosted: Fri Dec 25, 2009 7:57 am

A look at what he was offering before she shook her head. "No thank you." It was foolish to trust him so easily, even if he had proved himself a time or two to her. Besides, humans tended to put things in their water for health benefits and it usually unsettled her stomach. Instead she continued to tend to her friend, delicate long fingers gentle feeling over muscles and such under fur. Obviously she was more concerned for her friend than for herself as she did sport a few cuts as well.

But wasn't this an interesting bit of information. "Either you're very smart, or very stupid, human. Your kind kill each other easy if they see you turn traitor and deserter as well." Digging into her pack that was attached to the saddle that she had taken off, she pulled out a few long, soft and pliable strips of leather, taking to pressure binding the wolf's back leg. Some support and it would heal easily. "I do what the wind says...sometimes I can hear it." Even she had forgotten a great deal of how to listen, but not everything. "What is the point of useless bloodshed? Another victory only means swelled egos and another battle." She was keeping a sharp eye out...she wasn't stupid. Someone would be looking...she just didn't know who.

Randall didn't take it personally when the elf refused to drink his water, after all they only knew each other for the past two hours so that was not long enough to be best buddies. Still he had to wonder what they were going to do, everyone saw them so if anyone happened to catch sight of them who knew what would happen?

Randall gave a weary sigh as he closed his eyes and crossed his arms, it had been a long day. "I really don't care what my fellow people think of me, I am sick and tired of this damn war. Let them call me a traitor or whatever they please, I prefer to be free from the war and at least die my own way instead of for a lost cause." Though Randall relaxed a bit and turned to watch Key take care of her wolf, it was a bit sweet though for him he was still scared of it somewhat. He titled his head at her answer and raised an eyebrow. "Huh?" Listen to the winds? Is that why they had long ears? Though he smiled at what she said next. "You got that right. You think by now we would of stopped fighting..." Randall then looked around their little spot for a moment, he was still on edge from the fight; but he then turned his attention back to the elf and smiled a little, sticking out his hand. "Well since we watched each others back I think it at least allows us to introduce each other. I'm Randall Fargas, it's nice to meet you even in such weird circumstances."

I didn't surprise her that what she said went right over his head. It would a lot of people. He was young for a human anyway it seemed from his looks. She did have to have herself a chuckle at his ignorance on the war as well. "Boy, if this war has not ended in hundreds of years before, what would be so special about now that it would find cause to end? We all fight for the same thing but don't know what that is exactly. How many would be happy with peace?" Shaking her head then, as she finished wrapping the wolf's paw. "And to their deaths they rode, noble warriors with victory in their heads but alas it did not ring loud from their hearts. If only, if only." That summed up most of this nonsense for her.

For a moment she looked at his offered hand strangly as if she didn't know what to do with it. Rather than grab his hand in what he was expecting she merely touched her hand to his own gently and moved back to her business. Namely being her pack where she pulled out a large chunk of dried meat and holding it to the wolf who happily gobbled it up. "Keyloriah." Going a tad stiff then as her ears twitched and the wolf's pricked forward, both looking off into the trees. Already?

Chuckling once more, she glanced down as the action was wrapping up on the field. "You would do a lot of things if Asanna would let you. Good thing she chooses not to." Shaking her head. "Looks like this battle is over anyway. Too late for you, Sithy. Better luck next time."

"You two stop it now. You're both young and don't have a lick of sense between you." Shaking her own head and rapping her walking stick against the ground as the two were setting up to bicker.
