Marcus started to speak, then snorted. "How should I know? I haven't had any in years," he said honestly, only to jerk, his eyes going shockingly large as Layla snapped her sharp teeth right next to his ear.
"I family!" she snapped, irritated with that statement.
"Okay, okay, I haven't had any except Layla in years," he muttered before looking to Reyn. "I'd say good boys with dragon claws can get away with being barefoot."

The dragon rolled her eyes at the man's self-pitying statement. Just as she was about to snap at the man, his daughter beat her too it. Lisa grinned at the little girl, full-blown rant headed off by the siren/dragon girl.
"Exactly," was all she ended up saying.
"Me too, me too!" Reyn chimed in. "And Lisa. You have lotsa family now," he added earnestly. Lisa shook her head, but didn't contradict Reyn, yet.
Reyn brightened. "Really?" he asked, wriggling his shoeless feet before 'climbing back down to Lisa.

It hadn't meant to be self pitying. No, it was just an honest statement of a man with a past that was so far in the past it was best left forgotten. But he didn't think like they did, so he hadn't realized how it would sound to them. Instead he looked around, seeing a sign for a nearby kids shop. "Then let's get you some clothes and we'll go see Santa," he said, heading for the shop.
"Santa!" Layla announced, forgetting the problem as easily as that. "We go see Santa!"
"And all that other stuff," he muttered. He didn't invite the others, it was up to them what they wanted to do.

"We should get back to our shopping as well," Lisa added rather relieved to have an excuse to leave. "To go get some clothes and toys," she added seemingly carelessly. Gesturing towards Reyn, the dragon started to head for the shop she had found on the map.
Reyn stared up wide-eyed. "Toys!? My own toys??" Layla was nearly forgotten in the successful distraction of toys that he didn't have to leave in the common room. The boy scampered to catch up with Lisa, latching onto her hand happily.
There was just one small problem with the idea of exiting smoothly from this encounter. They were both apparently headed to the same shop along with dozens of other families. Reyn soon caught onto this as well, dragging Lisa after Marcus and Layla.
"Layla!" He called after his cousin and not-uncle. "Waait..."
Lisa frowned to herself as she was pulled along by Reyn, debating the wisdom of attempting to find another store. Unfortunately nothing else in the mall had clothing, toys, even beds and dressers. It made more sense to go here, even if it did mean she'd be stuck having to be polite and social some more.
So in the end she just sighed and continued to be dragged along.

Lisa turned, waving at the boy happily, only to blink as they turned the opposite direction when they got into the shop. The girls section was on the other side of the store.
"Bye Reyn!!" she called as she realized it. "Bah bye!!!"

Reyn frowned as Layla was dragged away to the other side of the store. A sharp tug towards the boys section prompted a hastily waved "BYE!" of his own.
