User ImageAilill closed her eyes and trusted the forest to guide her as she walked with Indra. The music of teh forest filled her heart with joy and thought her people had been so overcome with a lust for power that they had forgotten the whispers of the forest. The sweet music in the air was only a nuissance to them, and Ailill couldn't understand why.

She took a deep intake of breath and opened her eyes to glance around at the lush trees and brush around her. It was nice to see life in action. The forest was the most alive place she'd been so far. All the cities gave off this dull, dead kind of atmosphere and she didn't like that all too much.

Her glance switched to the burly Talaxian beside her and she was a bit curious about him. He seemed much like any other Talaxian, but there was just something different about him. He didn't kill and ask questions later, and he didn't seem completely barbaric. He was rude in a sense, but she could understand that. What amazed her was that he actually seemed not to mind her company. Other Talaxians either hated the Eldar openly or had grown into a kind of sumissive secret loathing.

Ailill was just glad she actually was going somewhere. She spotted a small apple hanging down from a tree, but she was too short to reach it. She frowned as they were going to walk past it and short a small amount of magic at it to make it drop. She leapt forward gracefully, caught it, and turned around in mid air to land on one foot. She set her other foot behind her to stop her from falling over, but that small show was all about getting the apple and nothing more. It would've been seen as flashy magic of the elves, but Ailill didn't even glance up at Ingar to show him how 'awesome she was', but merely ate her apple in a kind of humble way.

Indra turned quickly when he heard her sudden movement. He watched as she made an elaborate task of just picking an apple. At first Indra just stared at her with an eyebrow raised. Elves always doing things like that. Maybe it was just their nature to rely on magic and elegance for every little thing. It was silly. Silly enough to make him smile, then laugh-

Leave it to an elf to make a dance out of something like picking an apple! Hahaha! Yeah, I'll just rely on you to lighten the mood whenever things get too serious.

-Walking again, Indra noticed he was feeling much better now. His wound felt like it would probably be completely healed by morning. Talaxians healed much faster than what would be considered normal, but even faster now with the help of Ailill. Indra felt like he could fight another duel just fine, it was great. His thoughts shifted back to the elf girl. He remembered her saying she was an outcast, and her behavior proved it. Sindari and Llundari only exiled their own if they really screwed up big, and traitors are always executed by transmutation. He wondered what she did that was so bad-

So how does a girl like you turn into an outcast? Did you steal something from a sorcerer or what?

User ImageThe crunching of her chewing her apple was the only sound coming from her for a moment before she swallowed and pouted cutely. "I couldn't reach... so I broke the stem... and... caught it," she replied timidly and took another small bite out of her apple.

Ailill walked with him for a while and continued to eat her apple. It was nice to see Indra smile for once. He seemed slightly less intimidating. She kind of daydreamed for a while until he spoke up again. She took another bite out of her apple and frowned slightly as she chewed thoughtfully.

After she'd swallowed, she replied, "No... It's just... I don't like violence, or conflicts, or anything like that. I was given the choice to join the military and refused... which caused a lot of bitter feelings because of how... er... forward I was in the expression of my dislikes." She took another bite of her apple and sighed once she was finished with it. She took out the seeds absently as she went on, "So with the permission of my father they expelled me from the city, and effectively, the entire race."

She seemed a bit depressed about this, but didn't go into anymore detail. She stopped and planted the seeds before she continued to walk with Indra. That seemed to make her a bit happier, and she tried to not think of her exile.

Oh great, a real peacecraft. Thats exactly what our world needs...

-He spoke sarcastically. To Indra peace was only a prelude to war and in this age a long, painful one for his people. He wished the rumors of war between the two elf groups would just start up already. At least then his people would have the chance to free themselves. These were beautiful thoughts, but sentiments like these wouldn't get him anywhere and just dreaming about it wouldn't make it all happen.

They kept walking for a while with only each other and nature as their entertainment. Suddenly it was interrupted by a more exhilarating scent, elf blood. Indra stopped and smelled the air some more. It wasn't just the blood, it was more than that. Other faint smells that Indra couldn't immediately figure out because they were too faint. He drew his swords and motioned to Ailill to stop. He didn't sense any danger or hear anything either. Usually Talaxians had something of a sixth sense for ambushes and imminent danger, but at the moment Indra felt only his own anticipation for a good fight-

Ailill, you better be on guard. If you're going to stay a pacifist, then you can wait here while I check this out. If you want to be brave then follow me carefully.

-Without waiting for her answer, Indra already took off. He ran stealthily but swiftly, following his nose. As he proceeded, he identified the other smells. Heavy magic use. Destructive magic too. Lots of blood and fire with molten metal. It wreaked of elven battle tactics. Slowed down and snuk up behind a large tree. Peeking around it, he saw a really strange yet satisfying site. There had to be over twenty of them, all dead. Indra walked out to take all the carnage in, then he noticed the others. He was quickly horrified and enraged. There were children among them. It was a merchant band. They were carrying slaves, women, children, and valuables. The slaves were slaughtered along with the elves. There were a few Llundari elves in among them and even the escort guards had fallen. All were dead, cut down cleanly-

By the Oracle.....what is this?

-Indra fell to his knees next to the corpse of a Talaxian child, her eyes still opened and frozen in time. The spark of had left them, but her body was still warm. This slaughter could not have happened too long ago. Even the smoldering burns in some of the dead were still hot from magic and the air was static. Indra did not shed a tear, though to him all Talaxians were kin. All were descendants of Talaxius and all were connected. Children were trained for battle, but never meant to partake in it. These children must have tried to fight even while bound by their enchanted chains. They died valiantly, not one had tears in his or her eyes. Indra had none to shed either. Instead he held the dead girl close and shut her eyes, clenching his teeth in rage-

This...this is too cruel. Who would do this?

User ImageThe scent of blood hit her senses as it did his, and she wrinkled her nose in disgust. Of course she wasn't all too happy that he'd made fun of her ideas, but then again she supposed she should be used to it by now. Everyone had done it before they'd exiled her, so why should she expect any less from the other races? Ailill stopped as Indra signalled to her. She looked around and set a hand on her dagger.

"Hey I-" she started, but he was alread off. Sure she was a pacifist, but she was brave too. Just because I don't like fighting doesn't mean I won't defend myself when the time comes, she thought to herself with a small frown. She could still see him in the distance and followed at about the same pace so they were always about that far apart. The air as they got closer was loaded with magic, and Ailill didn't waste the oppertunity to take some into herself for later use. It was all of destructive origin, but it might come in handy when making a fire or something. She whispered a few spells along the way to pull teh magic to herself until the air was just thick with it and she grimaced at the sensation of being totally surrounded by magical air. It made her ears hurt. How could her people possibly fight like this?

She stopped when he did and frowned as she saw him go to his knees. Whatever he was seeing, that she couldn't see among the brush, was not good. She didn't want to see it, and she kept telling herself that. Her Eldar curiousity wouldn't get the best of her this time. This place already felt like a battle ground, and she would rather not see the dead.

Indra listened for Ailill. It didn't seem like she was coming out into the open. Maybe she knew she couldn't handle the sight of this. Looking around, there was no real evidence to support any theories as to who did this. It obviously wasn't Talaxian, and with the Llundari and Sindari dead here, it wasn't just a clash between the two societies. All had been slaughtered regardless of race, gender, and rank. Indra couldn't imagine who could be responsible, none of the three races had ever committed this type of act against the three equally. It was senseless and chaotic. Then Indra noticed something strange on the corpses in front of him. Each of them were branded with some strange mark. It was runic but ornate, something he had never seen before.

Indra stood and started examining the corpses. The more he saw, the more he realized that all the dead were branded with this mark. Each and every one had the brand somewhere of their bodies. The brand was ice cold to the tough, despite the inherent warmth of the corpses. This was completely alien to him. Never before had he seen this, it was almost out of a myth. Perhaps the elf would know more of this-

Ailill, get out here and look at this mark! Every one of them has it! Its like whoever did this didn't care what race these people were, they are all marked just the same! Is this an elven mark?!

-Indra may have sounded demanding, but could he be blamed? He was emotional right now and at the same time straining his mind to comprehend what may have happened here. If it was an elven brand, then it would be the elves to blame and Indra would make them pay. It still seemed unlikely to him in his mind. The fact that other elves were not spared said enough. Either way, he hoped she would have some idea as to what this brand was.

Ailill hesitated as he called her, but tried to listen despite the impeding sense of not wanting to go any closer. She took a breath to steady herself though with all the magic and blood in the air it wasn't really any help. She tried again before she steadied herself to walk over, slowly but surely. She saw the bodies as the brush ended and grimaced at the sight.

It brought back bad memories. Fire, there was fire everywhere. Where were Matre and Father? So much shouting... what was happening...? A man has kicked in the door and he looks at me. He's big and stocky like the slaves, and no pointed ears. Who is he? I want to run... I can't, I can't run! Matre! Matre! She blanked out for a moment before she seemed to snap back to the present. Ailill had seemed gripped by terror, but her face changed expressions almost instantly back to concentration.

Taking back control of herself, she set about looking at the branding mark Indra pointed to. She frowned, not entirely sure. She was a young elf yet, and it was her age she blamed for her ignorance. "I... I can't tell. Perhaps, but I don't recognize it... if I were an Elder Eldar I might be able to tell you but... I'm just as clueless as you are," she replied softly and frowned as she traced a delicate finger hesitantly across the cold mark.

Indra didn't like her reply. Of course it was nothing she could control and circumstance had made things that way. Of course that weird-ness she suddenly exhibited on her way over here left Indra somewhat unsettled and curious. She looked like she had a panic attack or that her senses went crazy all of a sudden. Then after a moment she was back to normal. Very strange, he would have to address that some other time.

He looked around for another long few minutes, taking in and committing every aspect of this place to memory. Everything would have to be relayed back to his comrades. If there was a renegade group somewhere or a powerful sorcerer roaming around causing this slaughter, all Talaxians needed to know. Hopefully it would be his people that would kill whoever did this. Indra smile at the thought. Though he needed evidence, so he did something that even he didn't agree with, but knew it had to be done-

Talaxius, forgive my desecration of the fallen....

-Indra took his blade and cut the brand from a few corpses. One of each race killed here as evidence. The scent alone would be alot to convince others and the sight would add greatly to that. However, if the oracle received it or if even elven wizards examined it, they could all see that it was real. Again, Indra hated this act but dealt with it internally. He would have to honor them later for this.

Ailill looked at Indra as he spoke and frowned as he took out his blade. She backed up slightly and let him do what he had to, but, being as she was, she couldn't even look as he did it. It more then grossed her out, and she flinched as she made the mistake of glancing his way once. Carrying around scraps of skin... just the thought made her want to vomit, but if it had to be done...

She looked off into the forest and wondered how such a bloody act could be commited in such a beautiful place. She tilted her head to teh side as she felt the magic in the air slowly lessen, but supposed it was the wind... or something. She didn't know her mother's pendant had a knack for absorbing magical energy.

Ailill decided she should do something for her fellow Eldar and went to each one, even the Llundari, and whispered a small blessing while she closed their eyes. She sighed softly and looked to Indra to see if he was quite finished. If so it might be better to get out of here.

Indra put the skins on his back and hung them there to dry. He would have to endure the idea of gore for a while until they dried out properly. Hopefully it wouldn't draw much attention either as the two journeyed on. Indra forced a smile at Ailill, if only to put her more at ease even a little. He then spoke a whispered prayer to Talaxius and started walking-

We better keep moving. If others should find us here with this mess, they'd think we had something to do with it.

-Indra nudged Ailill's shoulder and kept walking. This whole scene was disturbing to him, even to the core. Though he tried to push it out of his mind. The battle itself must have been glorious, despite the outcome. At least that much was certain, and in that idea Indra could smile for his fallen kin.

-As they walked, Indra started whistling to lighten the mood. It was an old child's lullaby, sung to almost every Talaxian when they were young almost like it was tradition. There wasn't a Talaxian who didn't know it, maybe even the elves knew it now too. It was a gentle and joyful tune, and Indra managed not to butcher it. Just whistling it settled his nerves and helped him loosen up after what they had found.

User ImageMaking a mental note not to look at his back, Ailill faced him as he started to walk. She walked with him and sighed softly as he spoke. 'We' was a loose term in these parts, especially after the scene there. If they were found by her people she would probably be revered as a survivor, and Indra would be blamed for the massacre. Yup, good old Eldar, always blaming the Talaxians and protecting their own... of course once they found she was an outcast they'd probably say they commited the crime together. Didn't matter that the evidence suggested otherwise; they'd likely both be put ot death before an investigation could find out they were wrong.

It was funny that she and Indra were thinking the same thing. Perhaps hey weren't so different after all. It was a strange thought, even for her.

Why he was smiling she would probably never find out because his train of thought illuded her. His methods seemed primitive... but effective. Her ears twitched just slightly at the tune he was whistling and couldn't help feel a bit solemn as he whistled it. It may have lightened his spirits, but it did nothing for her. The tune reminded her of the slaves her father used to own those many many years ago. After her mother died he wouldn't even let a Talaxian breathe near their house.

Childhood was not a good time for Ailill, because she only remembered that one single thing; her mother's murder by a Talaxian slave.

As the sun began to tuck away behind the far away mountains, the two began to near their destination. It was in eye-shot now and Indra was beginning to catch the many scents of the village. Magic, food, and industry. That last part he didn't like too much, it was wrong to him. He ignored this personal twang and just glanced back to Ailill. He smiled and bowed in similitude as a slave would to his master. He hated this with a passion, but it had to be done. He already spotted some elven guards screening travelers at the village gates-

Alright then, master. Lead the way and I'll follow. Let me carry your things too so it looks more real to the guards.

-Indra waited for her to give him her things. She would have to trust him now or part ways. He could easily get into town another way alone if he had too, but why waste the time and effort? This was the most efficient way. Indra also made sure to hide the skins as well. No doubt they would set off the guards on sight. After they got in, Indra would lead them to a specific tavern. One that he had heard the freedom fighters commonly used for recruiting. It was also a major information exchange too which was perfectly stationed between the two types of elves and the wilderness where the freedom fighters roam.

Ailill saw the town and hoped no one knew her or her father here. She would be ratted out in nearly an instant. She sighed as she handed over her small satchel. "I don't have much..." she replied with a small frown. "And act like my bodyguard rather than my slave. There is no way I could keep you under control if you were a slave," she said logically, not meaning to offend.

She kept her gaze away from the other Eldar, but in a discreetly non-disrespectful way. Talaxian's wouldn't understand, so she didn't make a point of making a big deal of it. She also made a point of not looking at him either. It was something of a slave thing but she didn't want to push it. Like she said before, it's not like she could actually control him even he if were her slave. She was a short little elf pacifist and he was a hulking Talaxian rogue. So yeah, obviously she had like no chance beside the odd magic spell she knew and even that didn't give her much of a chance of even making a scratch.

As they approached the gates, the guards eyed them closely. These were some powerful Eldar, Indra could smell it and see it in their person. All Eldar soldiers carried themselves as though they were all the toughest things around, but it was the truly powerful ones that didn't have to act. You could always tell by it, almost like an aura. Indra could have put up a good fight, but likely would have lost against them. So he acted subservient to Ailill. Looking down away from any Eldar as was custom behavior for indentured Talaxians. The guards bought it and let them through without any incident, though they stared heavily at Ailill's clothes and whispered amongst themselves.

Upon entering the town, Indra saw that there were more guards inside the gates. Now it was obvious that none of the races trusted each other. The Llundari guards stood guard and with them on the opposite side of the street there were a few Talaxians as well. They were actually well armed and glared at Ailill, obviously with disdain at the idea that she had a Talaxian retainer. It was a step above slavery, but only a small one. Indra winked at them with a suggestive smile. Immediately they softened their stares. Obviously they understood now that it was just a show. The Llundari guards ignored Indra completely, but instead the instantly approached Ailill. Their were seven of them and they all walked in front of Indra and Ailill, cutting off their path and surrounding them though in a non offensive manner. They stood there, two of them circling Aillil while four others inspected Indra. They were all very interested in her clothes and hair. It was obvious she was Sindari from her skin color, but her clothes and hair didn't coincide with this at all. Finally, one who could have easily been their Guard Captain stepped forward and spoke-

Well well, isn't this an odd sight? Here we have a Sindari strolling into our town wearing our clothes. I'm not sure what kind of joke you're trying to make here girl, but its not funny. There have been some rumors going around about some rogue sorcerers in this area. One might think you know something about that. What is your name and rank?

-This Llundari was a large one, obviously strong too. He wore magical tattoos of his race that were designed to increase spell power dramatically at the expense of a person's health. He could hit hard, but only a few times. He had the build of a Talaxian warrior too which was odd for an Eldar. Chances are, he was definitely a dangerous foe. His armor had skulls and other designs etched into it. Combined with his dark blue skin and bright orange eyes, he was a scary guy. Even Indra stood instinctively wanting to avoid any conflict with this guard.
