Actually, Ubasti, if the government doesn't step in, gays would never have the right to marry, because no religion will allow it.
This, actually, I see no problem with. Well... I'm not saying it's RIGHT, but I'm saying that the government shouldn't be able to intervene. Who the ******** are we to force the church to allow gays to marry? That's a massive infringement on their right to practice religion however they want.

WELL WHAT ABOUT NCIS THEN, SMARTASS? HUH? xd
I don't watch NCIS, so I don't give two shits.

I think it's generally a bad idea to put up things about politics/religion here unless it has to do with guns, but it's not wrong to ask questions.

I don't particularly support. In this day and age, marriage isn't really respected... like at all, by anyone. Las Vegas chapels and the current divorce rate is proof of that. But [stereotypicalChristiananswer] I think marriage is supposed to be important and meaningful and a holy union under God. And when God says things like homosexuality being an abomination, it tends to make me think he's not too keen on the idea of them being married. And when we're talking about homosexuals suing churches for not marrying two men, that pisses me off to no end. That's like tying down a vegetarian and force-feeding him a steak, but less funny.[/stereotypicalChristiananswer]

That being said, it also doesn't really affect me in the least. And when it happens, I'm bothered, but I also don't give a s**t.

That's not true. There are some Christian denominations that allow gay marriage, as does Reform Judaism. Plus, secular marriage is also an option.

I'm sure the Pastafarians would happily preside over the marriage.

The problem with this is that marriage is not a Christian concept, so Christians should have no right to define any marriage other than their own marriages. Now, personally I don't believe churches should be forced to perform gay marriages. That is fair, after all. My system would allow everyone to define their own marriage. That would include allowing churches to decide who to perform wedding services to.

The church isn't forced to do anything. They aren't being told they have to marry gays in their chapels, they are just being told that they can't prevent gays from getting married in other chapels that choose to marry gays. That's not an infringement on their rights at all. They can disapprove of gay marriage and define marriage as between a man and a woman all they want. They just can't dictate what happens outside the chapels they own and run.

Actually, for a while, churches here in California would risk losing their tax exemption status if they didn't marry a homosexual couple and that couple complained to the state. It was something the state forced, without having a vote for it. It was repealed just before Proposition 8 came up on the chop block.

Good. I may be for gay marriages, but I'm against forcing churches to perform them if they don't want to.

I'm against it, but I really couldn't care less. As long as they aren't pushing themselves onto the public and being a major pain in the a** (no pun intended xp )

I tell ya man, if gays have the right to get married, then the terrorists win. If we can just keep the gays from getting married, we can end terrorism, boost the economy, and put food in the bellies of all of the starving children!

On a more serious note, I think they should be allowed a legal union, recognized by law, but it's up to the church to marry them under the eyes of their God. When it comes to the religion aspect, I'm an atheist, I don't care.
