"Well, I'm not gonna shove you outside again with that injury..." It wasn't really an answer to Kaosu's question, but really, Shade wasn't sure of what to think about having the redhead over. True, his last visit with the man had been less than pleasant, but he'd still managed to help the impling boy out of a tight situation. So, Shade was still nursing the thought that Kaosu might not be TOO bad.
"Um...I think we have nuts..." They were rather low on food at their house, honestly. His mother didn't get paid again until next week though, so there was little that they could do about it until then. He scampered off to the kitchen, his ears twitching as he heard Gidget purring from the attention that Kaosu was giving her. "We might have some vegetables...those have iron in them too, right...?"

”Ah, I see,” Kaosu replied, traces of amusement in his voice. ”So you took me in out of a sense of charity ~ “ It was the truth, wasn’t it? Normally the redhead’s pride would have balked at such a situation. He barely knew this kid… and he sure as hell did not need the help of some minor. He should leave. It was not like he was seriously injured. Surely he would be fine now that his wound was treated. However, something about Shade’s demeanor kept him put.
Either that or he really liked that cat.
The hunter cheerfully continued to stroke Gidget, forgetting his desire to get out and get rid of that god forsaken spark Bane had stuck him with. House cats were so much friendlier than those at his base. If she was around to keep him company, maybe one night’s rest would not be so bad. ”Nuts are good.” Absently Kao wondered what Shade would have done if he had asked for alcohol –that was what he really needed. Anyone would need a drink after being shot by Santa. ”And yeah, I think you’re right. Green ones do, at least.”

Shade didn't know what to say in response to Kaosu's statement, so he pretended to have not heard it - he was in the kitchen anyway, so he figured that he'd be able to get away with it. The boy dug around in the fridge and pantry for a while before finally producing the food - a mixture of almonds, pecans, and some raw broccoli and celery. He quickly scurried back to the living room.
"How's this...?" The boy glanced to Gidget, wondering if it was at all possible for the cat to be any friendlier. Well, at least Kaosu didn't seem to mind the cat. Actually, the redhead seemed to be enjoying Gidget's company, from what he could see. A thought crossed his mind as he remembered a certain little something that he'd been hiding his room for a day or so now. If Kaosu liked cats, maybe he wouldn't mind the it. The impling already figured that maybe Kaosu lived alone...
"I'll, um...be back in a second." Without any explanation, the teenager went off to his room. A few minutes later, he returned with a small, black fuzz-ball curled in his arms - a kitten. He approached the couch with the little creature and tilted his arms so Kaosu could see the kitten.
"I...found him yesterday and brought him back here." the boy explained. "I don't think Mom'll let me keep 'im when she finds out, but I didn't wanna leave him outside to freeze." He scratched the kitten behind the ear and shifted slightly, his tail flicking behind him. "But...maybe you could take him? You seem like you like cats..."

The iron-rich foods were really rather unnecessary, but Kaosu was not about to risk becoming weak or anemic out of neglect. He HAD lost a lot of blood. Passing out or needing further help would be sinking to an all time low. ”That will be fine,” he replied without looking up from Gidget. The redhead scratched behind her ear affectionately, completely contented. She clearly was more interesting to him than Shade at the moment. He was no longer in any danger from his wound, so his mood was looking up. ”Thank you ~”
”Alright” was the only response Shade’s departure warranted. In the back of his mind, Kao wondered what the kid was up to… but the front of his mind did not care. Until a second cat was brought into the room. Kao had a hard time keeping a straight face when he spotted the kitten. Something inside of him instinctively melted. Trying his best to conceal his surprise, he wondered why exactly Shade had brought him the cutie. Maybe his secret (or not so secret) love for felines had been discovered? ”I…”
When Shade revealed that he wanted to GIVE Kao the adorable creature, he was taken aback. Adopt a cat? Him? He did not even own a house! He had to scavenge for food himself. How in the world was he supposed to take care of an Essentic AND a pet? And yet… the thought of the poor thing freezing to death would not leave his mind. ”Does he… does he have a name?” Kao finally inquired, not declining or accepting.

Something about Kaosu's demeanor changed when the kitten was introduced and though it was slight, Shade still managed to pick up on it. The boy wasn't entirely sure of what to make of the redhead's reaction until Kaosu finally asked about the fluff-ball's name.
"I've been...calling him Vane." The boy scratched Vane behind the ears, causing the kitten to rub up against his fingers. "You can call him something else if you'd like, though." Gidget was watching Vane from her spot in Kaosu's lap, curious about the arrival of the new kitten. She wasn't curious enough to leave her current seat though - she was enjoying Kaosu's attention far too much.
"If you don't want to, I can try to find someone else...it seems like you like cats though, so I thought that I'd ask..." The boy scratched the back of his head, still cradling Vane in one arm.

”Vane, huh?” Kaosu repeated for his own benefit. He kept his eye pinned on the kitten, weighing his options in his head. Part of him wanted to dismiss the idea of adopting the creature as ludicrous. He had places to go and people to kill. Dragging along a pet would be nothing but a hassle. However, the part of him in favor of accepting the black fuzz ball was far stronger. As much as the red head hated to admit it, he had been rather lonely since leaving Trystan. His dormant Spark was not much company. Besides, he was not particularly keen on the idea of associating with an Essentic.
Wordlessly, he continued to stroke Gidget for a few moments, as though still thinking things over. In reality, his decision was already.
”No, that’s not necessary. I’ll…” Like cats? That was an understatement. Just look at those cute eyes! Those adorable whiskers. There was no way he could say “no” to a face like that! ”I’ll take him,” he finally replied firmly.

Shade nodded as Kaosu repeated the name, watching as he waited for the redhead to make his decision. He hoped that the older man would consider it - he didn't think that he and his mother had the money to look after another cat right now. Actually, they didn't have much money at all. They were lucky to have enough groceries to feed themselves and Gidget!
Relief flooded the impling boy when Kaosu finally agreed to take the kitten. Shade couldn't help but smile before he nodded, bringing the kitten over so he could set him next to the redhead - best to have Vane get used to his new owner. "He's already trained to use a litter box, so...you won't have to worry about that." Thank goodness; he'd been worried about not being able to find a home for the little fuzz-ball.
