"Exposition, alright." Karmi said, squirming in her shoes. Being in one place for long was bugging her. Staring at the open book she glanced the course descriptions and listened to Tate as she went on. "Astronomy, huh?" She shook her head. "Not for me I think." A smile. "I'll stick with Chemistry."
The required classes talk was getting old, and fast. Karmi couldn't take it anymore, to be honest. It was time for a change. "I think the rest is just the next Math I have to take and then electives. Maybe we can talk about college options?" Silence for a moment. "There are several ones here in the city and I'd rather stick around..." She smiled. "Or maybe a tour of the Junior classrooms?" Boldly, she went on. "After all, gotta try to keep this lively."
It was blind optimism and a defense mechanism. Normally Karmi would have a grip for the response she would get, but not this time. Tate was an enigma to her.

Genre savviness indicated that Karmi didn't like to sit still. Probably had someplace better to be, supposed Tate. Well, she also wanted to be somewhere else. A ripple of discontent flowed over her face, and she set down her pen. "You're antsy," said the brunette, tapping her fingers on the table. "Mentoring isn't supposed to be lively. As for the upper campus, they rotate where the classes are except for science mostly every year. It'd be useless."
Pause. "I can make college recommendations after we finish figuring out what you want to do. Or at least once I have a general idea."

Karmi sighed lightly, but nodded to her upperclassman. The enigma was slowly being broken. Staring back down into the book she flipped a few pages. Slightly mumbling, she started thinking aloud. "Well, the only thing I really know I like is Track. Running and the like. I've never had a special skill or an ambition to work towards. If I had to pick now..." she stopped herself, glancing up at Tate once more. Her mind swirled until it landed on a career choice. "Either an Athletic Coach or an Elementary School Teacher."
She had been thinking recently of how she wanted to give back to the world. Small children and her got along well enough and she always loved assisting and instructing them. In fact, the only real younger kid she didn't get along with was her own brother. Rubbing her feet together nervously, she looked back into the book. Maybe there was an ROP class for that?
"I know if that's what I want I'll have to work hard at it." she added quickly.

"Go for physical therapist," suggested Tate. "Best of both worlds, with more money than both." She squinted at the book, leaning forward to stare at it like it held the Secrets of the World, or maybe she was interrogating it a la Jack Bauer. "You can take the Psychology elective while you take Chem," she said. "'S an easy class."

"Physical Therapist." Karmi parroted, allowing the thought to descend to her core. "That..." she paused for a moment, then smiled back at her peer, "...sounds perfect." It was a compliment, but also an epiphany. It wasn't something she had thought of before, but made the most sense. Finally she had settled into at least something of a goal. Glancing back at Tate, she took up courage for an actual compliment, "You know a lot about this sort of thing. You hit it right on." she said, confidently. Feeling somewhat shy about not being able to "hit it right on" herself, she left it at that, her green eyes focusing on the upperclassman.

Tate tried on a smile. "I'm glad you know where you're going," said Tate, "Anyway. I'd recommend going to prep at Sovereign Heights first, a lot of people do that and get into lots better colleges than people that go straight to college from Meadowview. Dunno what the stats are at Crystal so if you transfer or something nuts, check with a guidance counselor or new mentor..."
She paused, pulling out another book. This one was a list of colleges. "Do you know how far away you want to go, Karmilita?"

Karmi shook her head, but smiled a little. "Not too sure on that. Maybe it's poor planning on my part, but I really didn't think about any of this." She wasn't sure if Tate was hoping to hear that. Perhaps it was blind optimism, but like so many of her peers she was planning on winging it after graduation. Not particularly smart though, as Tate was quickly teaching her.
Fidgeting in her seat she glanced at the book. "Well," she started, "Though being around my folks might things easier I'd rather go somewhere where I can be more independent..." The answer was honest enough. "Not completely broke though." she added. One thing to remember about school was the money. She kept her gaze at Tate, watching her expression.
