Rahnya stared at Abdiel. ‘Is your mum a sorceress?’ she smiled.

For all it was worth, she seemed to like this stallion standing in front of her. For one, he didn’t back away from her like most of her kind would. ’Hes pretty handsome to’. Shaking her head, she realized she was putting him at a risk of his herd disowning him.

‘Water… freezes?’ she looked at him in awe. She wasn’t sure what this ‘freezing’ meant, but it must be a great thing in order to make water like this. ‘Where I’m from, we don’t have such things.’

Walking up to her chest, she nudges it open. Peering into it she wonders how the empty chest can make something appear from nothing. That was none of her business, she simply read the cloth that sometimes appeared. ‘I’m not sure if I have a story right now. Reach into my chest and bring me whatever you grab.’

Abdiel couldn't help but smile back at her suggestion of his mother being a sorceress. From what he had gathered from her, she wasn't the type to joke around, and the smile she gave after stating her question was genuine, and suggested that this idea was pleasing to her. And he wanted to please her, because the conversation had taken a better route, and she had stopped scoffing and disbelieving him. She seemed truly interested now, and this was comforting to Abdiel.

Abdiel thought it ironic that she believed in things such as sorceress's but not unicorns. True, Abdiel had never met another unicorn before, but he was one, and even though he hadn't ever met a sorceress either, he didn't doubt the fact that they too could be real.

"Well," he started, "I never knew my mother. For all I know, I suppose she could have been a sorceress." According to legend, the unicorn was a crossbreed of the unicorn plant and a Soquili by the spirits. Whatever that meant. Abdiel had only heard the legends passed down from those he had encountered, with the occasional warning, 'Beware of the hunters, they'll kill you for your horn. It has healing powers.' He didn't doubt that it had healing powers, and he didn't doubt that he was rare. But worrying about hunters was not on his agenda. He'd never encountered one before, and worrying himself sick over it didn't sound like very much fun.

"Anyway, it must be really hot from where you come from. I can't imagine not having ice." He gave a little smile and walked over to her chest that was now open.

Upon first glance, it seemed to be empty, but as Abdiel gazed at it, he saw something forming there. He couldn't make out what it was, so he lowered his head to get a closer look. There was a little cloth inside the chest that greatly resembled Abdiel, only it was white and blue, instead of black and blue. It reminded him of winter and it had the same brilliantly colored tribal markings that Abdiel himself was adorned with. He gently grabbed it in between his teeth and pulled it out of the chest to give it to...what was her name? Abdiel almost couldn't believe he hadn't asked her what her name was.

Lifting his head and nodding the cloth towards her, he mumbled his words around the cloth, "Here. And...you haven't told me your name." He was eager to hear her name, and also eager to hear the story and the meaning behind the cloth he had pulled out of the nothingness from her chest.

Rahnya gently took the cloth from him. Settling down underneath the tree she closed her eyes and went into a meditative state. After a few moments she looked up at him and smirked. ‘My dear, what an interesting story you have!’ sighing lightly she put the cloth back into the trunk. ‘However, it’s not for now, it is for another day.’

Staying underneath the tree, she reminisced about where she came from. The days were long gone from when she was a colt and frolicked in the water with all her herd-mates. All she had left from that life was the shawl her mother gave her, which still hung around the mare. ‘Yes, it’s quite… warm where I come from.’ Smiling again she stood up.

‘I’m sorry about your mother, it’s a grave thing when one is not cared by from the one who gave birth to them…’ trailing off she started thinking of the day she was banished from her herd. She was told she was unclean, and it would be only fair to the rest of the herd if she removed herself from them, so they wouldn’t become contaminated too. So she took her trunk and her shawl, for that’s all she had, and headed in whatever direction she chose.

Snapping out of her day dream she realized she forgot to introduce herself. ‘Pardon me, I was rude when we first met. You may call me Rahnya.’

Abdiel waited curiously while she seemed to meditate under the tree. It wasn't too long before she opened her eyes again.

He titled his head a little and pawed at the ground impatiently. Another day? That only made him wonder all the more what it could be. He decided that worrying about it wasn't going to do him any good, and besides, he figured there wasn't anything that cloth could tell him about himself that he didn't already know. What was more interesting at the moment was the girl in front of him.

If his story would be told to him another day, that must mean that she at least planned to run into him again in the future. "I can wait then," he said with a smile playing around his lips.

Again, after mentioning her home and mentioning a family that didn't care for their child, she seemed to go into another one of her little reveries. Then she told him her name. It was true, she was being so much more polite now that they had spoken for a little while. She seemed to be more at ease also. He wondered briefly if it had anything to do with his story.

"Alright Rahnya," he said. It was a nice and interesting name he though. He wanted to know more about her and where she came from. "So what about you? What's your story?"

Resting beside a tree, Rahnya casts a steely gaze off into the distance. If she was to talk of her herd, she must not let this handsome male know she has any weakness. The memories of her past was always cold and bitter. If only she knew why.

'There isn't much to tell, really. Before I was born legend said that my mother was to give birth to one of the greatest storytellers of the land. However shortly after she foaled me, she crossed into the great beyond. I was allowed to grow up with the herd until I reached adulthood, when I was banished and the rest of the herd cleansed.' Taking a moment to gather her emotions again, she continues. 'I had to go. If I didn't, the whole herd would have been cursed. They took a great risk raising me to my age, and they went through so much trouble with the cleansing ceremony.' Snorting at the thought of those unforgiving eyes of the horses she called her herd, she hesitates. 'I've been wandering for months now. And clearly the legend was wrong. I was the only foal of my mother, and while it's true that I am indeed a storyteller, I am far from great one.'

Trying to shake off the cold, Rahnya pulls her shawl closer. Gathering her emotions like she gathered her cloak, her defenses shoot up as she glares at this new male. 'And what about you? Are you suicidal? I demand to know where your herd is! I insist, you must go back, and for both our sakes never mention our words!'

Abdiel saw her rest beside the tree, so noticing a tree near to hers he rested too, and waited for her story.

He listened carefully, though there were still some things that he didn't understand. It might have been common knowledge to anyone from where she came, but to him "the great beyond" didn't mean much. He figured something about it wasn't good though, because from the sound of it she really was the one who was cursed. Why else would her herd banish her? Or, they thought she was cursed at least. She didn't seem cursed to him.

He understood now why his talk of leaving his herd had upset her. She didn't have to leave her herd, she was forced to. She had been wandering around for months; he could understand if her spirits seemed a little down.

"I wouldn't say that," he told her. "Perhaps you just haven't found the right story to tell yet." Again, his thoughts wandered to his white and blue cloth, and what story it could possibly tell. It just seemed like any old cloth, but...still, it had his same markings...

Again she was glaring at him, and getting mad at him for leaving his herd. And had she just asked him if he was suicidal? Abdiel rolled his eyes and sighed. They had been getting on fine just a few seconds ago.

"I would go back..." he started, "but I can't." He looked at her seriously now. "I don't even know where my herd is." It was true, in a way. He'd never found a herd to be a part of. Or...if his parents had been a part of one, he'd never known...but he wasn't about to go off looking for them. He'd gotten on fine his whole life without them.

"And I'm not suicidal," he added with a laugh.

Shaking the melting snow off of her, she wonders if he is telling her the truth or not. She could not possibly grasp the though of leaving her herd willingly. 'What is wrong with this boy? Surely he hit his head very hard when he was a young foal. Or maybe that pointy thing on his head is sticking into his brain'

Looking into the sun, she feels very sad for Abdiel loosing his herd. He said he wasn't suicidal, so perhaps what she was about to do was not a death wish. Even if it was, it didn't matter, she is lost without her herd anyways.

Trotting over to Abdiel, she gently grabs a hold of his mane and tugs. 'Well, come on then. We're going to find your herd. They have to be around here somewhere. Do all of them have sticks in their heads?' Tugging on his mane again, she realizes that he will need to be cleansed after being with her. 'Don't worry, I will teach you the cleansing ritual once we find them. Then you won't have to worry about them becoming cursed.'
PostPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 9:01 pm

Abdiel's eyes widened with surprise and shock as she tugged on his mane. It wasn't the tugging that surprised him, but her intentions. He had never thought that she would want to help him look for them. She wanted to help him.

Through the surprise he was feeling, he couldn't help but smile. Some of the things she said were very amusing. "Sticks in their heads..." he shook his head and chuckled. "Yeah, I guess they would have. ...and I'm not worried," he added.

That wasn't true of course, he was worried. Not about being cursed, but about what he would tell her when she found out they were going on a wild goose hunt trying to find his herd.

Finally having a purpose for her wandering, Rahnya trots in a little circle. If she could help this stunning boy, at least her life would have purpose. Settling down a little, she realizes she has no idea where she is, let alone where to start. Looking around, she starts to feel a little lost again.

'So, uh, shouldn't we get out of here? Maybe somewhere... warmer?' Noticing how cold it is she shudders a little. 'Or, does your kind enjoy the cold? I don't know how useful I'll be as a frozen horsicle.'
PostPosted: Wed Dec 29, 2010 9:14 pm

He wasn't sure what to do. He wanted to tell her that he didn't really have a herd; he'd never been a part of a herd. But how could he tell her when she looked so happy about helping him find them?

There was another one of those funny things she said; 'frozen horsicle.' He laughed and shook his head with anticipation of moving, tossing his curly mane about his face. Getting warm didn't sound like a bad idea either.

"We can head south. There might not be any snow towards the beach, but I suspect the breeze will still be pretty cold."

Rahnya moves around to shake the snow off her shawl and fur. Staring at Abdiel, she hesitates. 'There might not be snow? And it'll still be cold? Snorting, she starts trotting circles to try and get warmer.

Remembering her past, with the sweltering heat and the blazing kiss of the sun, she wonders why she didn't turn back the second she needed to put her shawl on. Are you sure they are there? Maybe they went to somewhere warmer, like the desert or... a volcano! Does your kind like the cold? Rahnya accidentally lets out a cheerful whinny. After all, who could like this stuff?
PostPosted: Fri Jan 21, 2011 10:12 am

Abdiel laughed at her reluctance of going anywhere cold. "Okay, okay. The desert then. We can go there. It will take a while to get there though."

"I don't think they hate the cold. I don't hate it. I'm not partial to it though."
He smiled and gave her a genuine answer about what he thought most unicorns liked. "I think my kind likes mountains, and waterfalls, and really elusive places like that. Like a secret meadow tucked hidden away by some mountainous obstacle." He laughed. "You know, stuff like that." It didn't sound quite the way he had wanted it to when he thought about it in his head. He'd never been able to find a magical place like that. There were the falls, and sometimes he couldn't help but think that there must be something more to them, but he'd never discovered it.

But for now, the desert would be an interesting place to go. It would be warmer, but finding food would be difficult.

Pausing in her tracks, Rahnya ponders the thought of mountains and waterfalls. She hated water; her herd lived far inland and hadn't need to swim. And she wasn't too keen on any scary mountains either. 'Isn't there suppose to be snow on the top of those things? Shivering she brushed the thought aside. Something in this funny looking horse made her want to help him, to travel with him. He needs his herd more then anything else, and she was no stranger to that.

'Well, I suppose it's the mountains then, isn't it? No need to go to the desert if your herd isn't there either. Sighing at the thought of going anywhere less warm then the desert, she scans the horizon. 'So, where do we go from here? Please, no rush.'
PostPosted: Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:47 pm

"Well, yeah..." he answered her. "There is." He sighed. "The thing is, I've been to the mountains, and I've been to the falls. I've never seen them there."

He'd never seen them there because he didn't really have a herd, but he'd never met anyone there worth being in a herd with either. Maybe running into Rahnya was about finally finding a herd to belong to. It wasn't about finding something that was lost.

"The other thing is," he admitted, "I wouldn't mind traveling somewhere warm either. You suggested a volcano. That's like a mountain, so maybe we could find them there." He paused and then muttered, "I've never thought to look there before..."

He looked at Rahnya, shivering and freezing. She was willing to put up with the cold to help him, and now he wanted to see her happy and warm. He imagined that she'd be brilliant in the sun, her black hair shining, and probably a huge smile on her face.

He smiled at her and said, "Come on. Let's just get somewhere warm. It will be good for both of us." And with that, he began to walk. He wasn't sure where he was going, because he wasn't sure that there were any volcanoes in these lands. He figured that if he kept walking west though, the weather would get a little warmer. He had heard rumors about a hot springs, and that would be something.

Rahnya stopped dead in her tracks. 'Well maybe your just not looking hard enough. You couldn't have searched ALL the waterfalls. Walking slowly towards Abdiel she was confused. She never met a Soquili before who didn't seem to be concerned about where his herd went. If she were not cast out from hers, she would be beside herself with fear.

'And besides, I don't think there are waterfalls by any volcanos. Just hot red stuff that you shouldn't touch.' Suddenly, a smile came across her face. 'Hey, maybe your kind can walk on the red stuff! You should try it when we get there!

Collecting herself into a proper canter, she speeds up to get closer to Abdiel. Not knowing where she is going, she cautiously puts her trust in the hope that this new friend of hers won't cause her harm. Staring at his horn, she ponders. What a strange thing. I wish we had those pointy sticks to glue onto my head. Maybe then I wouldn't be such bad luck.
