Ili'ella's eyes were sad as he spoke, knowing she shouldn't be but she was, sorry that is. Everyone should be able to see the wonders of the world. "Doesn't that make you miss it more?" She asked quietly, when he mentioned he had been able to see clearly before. She was curious though, when he mentioned enhanced other senses. "That must be amazing," she said, tilting her head to the side.

"You need a keeper," she announced, with the little amount of tact she had. "Someone to take care of you, be your eyes."

The lion pulled back slightly, the amount of his surprise enough to physically move him. He looked in the direction of the vibrant blur that he was sure was his current company and closed his maw to a thin line. Surely she didn't mean to sound so rude. He had to be acting too sensitive of the matter. But still...

"A keeper? You propose I need a keeper?" The longer he dwelt on it the more insulted he felt. He was used to the pity others got when they realized he could barely see but to suggest he needed a keeper!? "I'm not some blind invalid. I've lived this long on my own just fine. I've hunted, I can catch my own dinner, and I've managed not to break anything for this long. WHY would I need a keeper?"

It seemed he was far more insulted by the suggestion than he'd realized. He had sat up from his relaxed laying position, looking intently down at Ili'ella.

Her eyes widened comically at his reaction to her comment. Oh no. She had upset him! She hadn't meant to! Oh, was he going to attack her now? She hoped not. What was she going to do? She had to make him understand.

"No, no! I'm sorry!" She said hurriedly, her eyes panicky and sad. "I didn't mean to insult you! I just...everyone needs someone to watch out for them," she said, hoping to explain her thought. "I didn't mean that you were an invalid, I just..." she sighed, "just thought you were too kind to be on your own. I'm sorry," she repeated, hoping he would forgive her.

He exhaled a breath through his nose, giving his head a shake as though to clear his mind. He looked away, his voice lowering and calmer. "...I know you probably meant no harm or insult by your words. You shouldn't have to apologize. I'm sorry." He looked towards the sun, now crested over the horizon of the earth and bathing the land in it's sweltering heat.

"No one wants to admit defeat, though." Especially not him. Especially not to something like this. "Having someone to lead me around, to... take care of me. I don't know if one could say I've an overabundance of pride but I do have some. To ask for help like that... perhaps I'm stubborn or old-fashioned... but it'd feel too much like giving up."

He turned back to her, looking down. "Do you see? If you broke your paw and it healed badly, would you just give up wandering? Even if it hurt when it rained or walked too far or ran?" He hoped she understood what he was trying to say rather than dismiss him as some stuffy old-fashioned elder and brush him off.

Ili'ella listened to him with a type of intensity that showed that she was listening. She felt horrible for the words she had said, the things she had implied with them and how she had hurt his feelings by them. She was a kind lioness, but she did not always think before speaking which lead her into trouble, like now.

At his last words, she stared, glancing down at her paws, then back at him. "I understand," she said, quietly, her eyes sad. "I'm sorry, I didn't think of it like that. I didn't mean to insult you, even though you say I didn't." She gazed earnestly at him, " but still, I hope you do find someone to travel with. Not, that you can't be on your own, but because this has further shown me, you're too kind to be alone." She smiled weakly, hoping he understood her words.

She lowered her head, nervously and glanced at him. "I will leave you to your thoughts now, I think, before I say something else silly," she told him gently, giving him a warm smile. "I hope you find someone who will travel with you - not for help , but for love and support." She pushed herself to her feet and gave him a gentle look.

"Goodbye Akua." She turned her back to him, waiting only for him to say goodbye before leaving as quietly as she'd come.

Some meetings were fleeting, others lasted a life time. This one was short and sweet, and seemed riddled with misunderstandings, but still - her wishes for him remained good. She wanted him to find his own happy ending, like she wished for everyone else.
