Ligeia found himself glancing at the crystal that was hovering near to him and a part of him rather wanted something like that if it could aid him in the spell casting process, "Sometimes, to make my spells easier I will get help from Vorel." He told the teacher, wanting to share the different tricks that he'd picked up since he'd taken up the Magical Arts.

The owl lifted his hands up and made a motion with them, making the shards of ice spread out a bit farther away from him so he could set to adding more to the group again. He had to pause to take a deep breath, letting it out slowly so that he could steady out the flow of power from the well of it he was working with and the mass of shards that were whirling around him. This was getting a bit tougher, reminded him of when he really pushed himself during flight or when he was attempting to run to up his stamina or worse when he was attempting to swim.

"I feel a bit winded but how am I doing so far?" He asked, glancing over at Zyane with his dark eyes, looking a little guilty when he saw the way the teacher was shivering.

Zyane watched not too worried about his student yet, he could judge baised on how much energy the teenager was expending the limits he was nearing.
"You are doing very well, have you ever tried doing spell's that include a chant? Chants can help direct and concentrate magic so you are able to not spend as much energy while casting spells." He offered wondering if the boy ever tried to use chants before.

"The method you are using isn't wrong, but spends a lot of energy as you cannot lose focus or concentration else your spell will fail. Chants tend to offer a little ...wiggle room as they say." He continued as he then rubbed his arms.

"Do not push yourself too hard...even if your dragon helps you it is good to become self reliant. Who knows when someday you may be forced to face something by yourself yes?"

"Chants, not often. There was one but it was more me doing to to concentrate on breaking my element in half." He explained, pushing a bit more power into the shards he had out thus far to add to them, making them stronger, and adding to them so that they wouldn't crumble away. Concentration and focus seem to be everything.

"Believe me, I know what its like to run into things... scary on my own." He said, his wings giving a bit of a flutter, "I have ended up standing up to not one but two Black Dragons... not fun at all." He murmured, not something he ever wanted to do again.

Vorel, who had until now only been watching looked at the teacher in a slightly narrowed eyed manner, "I won't leave you alone to have to defend yourself again, Geia." He said in a very grouchy tone in the Draconic they shared.

Geia looked over his shoulder and smile, "I know, I trust you." He told the dragon in an assuring manner. He didn't want the words of the teacher to get to him after all, not since he was still not pleased over being unable to protect him when Keir was being mean to him.

Zyane nodded watching as Geia strengthened his ice shards, perhaps next time they would work on one shard at a time and work on speed. This spell although the magic was powerful took too long to cast.

In a battle if it was required he would be the long range caster where he'd need someone to protect him whilst he cast long spells. In the real world such spells would be useless for everyday situations, only wars did they seem to prove useful.

"Hmmmm I believe you, dragons are not the sort to trifle with..." He mused as he cast a look at Vorel who seemed annoyed with an earlier comment.

"I know, I just seem to have bad luck with having one that really isn't a fan of mine being partnered up with my boyfriend." He said as he made a motion with his hand hand as he watched the shards. This wasn't doing much for him he thought to himself and gave a little sigh. This was just... shard, more then he made normally and larger as well but nothing more then shards and he didn't feel what he expected to feel at pushing himself. It was a little frustrating as well that his teacher was giving comments here and there but left the leading of the class to him and he wasn't sure exactly what to do.

He reached out and turned his hand, slowly closing it into a fist and that drew all the shards closer to each other and he allowed them to do as Zyane's earlier spell had done, burst into snow before he drew his hands together to start over, "I don't feel like I am pushing myself hard enough." He murmured, looking into his hands as he drew up a ball of ice once more, "Chath pushes himself far harder, he duels with his dragon. I am just... weak." He muttered.

Zyane watched with a raised eyebrow as Geia dismissed his shards. A nice dusting of snow laying the ground around them at the mild explosion. He went to straighten a bit as he looked at his student.

"I think...you need to figure out what the purpose of your magic is.. What do you want to do with it? This...Chath fellow you mentioned, he duels but for what cause? Do you want to use your magic to fight?" He inquired observing Ligeia a moment before coming to stand beside him. He lifted a hand to summon a large ice crystal that looked more like a rather threatening spear.

"I could show you how to hone the egdes...make them sharper than any blade, show you how to throw it with a simple thought that could puncture through metal and stone. Or..." The shard floated there a moment before it cracked and became a hundred little fragments that danced about in the air like a magical parade.

"It seems to me you'd rather not hurt people.."

"I think at times that its a lot of Keir pushing him to do so. Its why he dislikes me so much, when Chath comes to hang out with me makes it so hes not training himself." He said, letting the ball hover over his hands as he watched the ice spear that Zyane summoned up before he shook his head. That wasn't what he wanted to do at all...

"I don't want to fight... I don't want to hurt anyone but... at the same time I don't want to just stand there like a lump while people get hurt in front of me again!" He gave a jump as the ball trembled then burst as his magic power spiked as it did at times when his emotions got the best of him. He sighed as he went to summon it back to his hands once more, "Next time... it might not be so 'lucky'. Next time the one getting hurt might not be able to regrow what was lost..."

He looked over at the teacher, "I... want to be able to do more, to take care of people. Its all I really want."

Zyane nodded his head and then allowed the dancing shards to puff out into snow flakes.
"Then I think you are taking the wrong approach. Summoning ice although it can be useful is...let us be honest more an offensive type of spell." He explained as he then raised his hand as if making a wave and then a shing sound appeared as like a wave a wall forming from the ground to where he stopped his hand formed. It was ice, but a wall of it.
"Ever tried to use your magic defensively? A sheild will help to protect others." He murmured though didn't voice outloud that it would also help to protect Geia as well.

Geia glanced over at the teacher and seemed to be starring at him for a long moment then slowly nod, "As though I don't know that." He murmured to himself, of course a shard wasn't a shield... but he'd told the teacher the shards were the first thing he'd learned to do and multiplying them was what he was supposed to help in testing his limits. This class seemed to be getting tougher and tougher, making the owl not like directing it even more.

"Chath and I have discussed shielding spells but... I will admit I got a little side tracked with learning a couple of other spells recently. I haven't made many attempts at the shields yet." He sounded embarrassed. He was wasting so much time trying to figure out spells that would only benefit Ligeia himself, he was being a bit selfish in his learning wasn't he? Perhaps that was why Keir wanted to keep him and Chath apart? Being near to each other did sort of... color each other's training in a way, didn't it?

Zyane nodded his head again moving to brush his mitten covered finger tips over his mustauch. it seemed to him that despite having a high level of experience the poor lad never had to direct his own training before. Making this class somewhat going around in circles.

"Regardless, you said you wanted to push your limits, but to do so you need a goal. What is that goal? Did you want to see the limiation of your magical prowress? To summon as many shards as possible? To summon them faster? To make them so strong nothing could break them?" He pressed trying to help guide the floundering Owl.

Ligeia starred at the teacher as he fired off questions rapidly and he starred at him before he dropped his gaze and shook his head, "I... don't know..." He murmured, "I should have thought it over more before I came here." He felt foolish yet again in another situation. First racing off to see Chath without thinking that ahead to doing that again with the magic class.

The owl lowered his hands to his sides and let his magic and all it had summoned fade away, "I am sorry, I wasted your time." He murmured, flushing darkly.

Zyane reached out and patted the boy on the shoulder,
"Nonsense, I had gotten to meet a very advanced student in the feild I specialize in. I am more than thankful for this encounter. But how about I take over for now. Perhaps in a different class you can work on something ..you wish to work on yes?" He stated with a nod of his head as he withdrew his hand and then took a step away.

"Since we are working with Ice how about we continue with it. You have learned how to summon shards. Why don't we try manipulating that skill? Ever tried summoning a snowball?"

Geia flushed a bit as the teacher pat him on the shoulder, "Ahh..." He wasn't sure quite how to respond. It was a nice thing for the man to say but he still felt foolish for coming here without a plan. Was he to used to dealing with teachers that had lesson plans set up? Learn this, practice this, and here is a test... he didn't know how to deal with someone that told him to take lead because he wasn't a leader.

"Huh? A snowball? No... ice ball and a water ball both but no, not a snow ball." He said in answer to the teacher's question.

Zyane grinned as suddenly outstretched a hand the air above it seemed to shimmer and then the ball appeared, small at first but rapidly was growing in size.

"A simple snow ball is actually quite advanced as a spell. First you have to summon the water in the air but not allow it to freeze against each other like you would when summoning a shard of ice. You basically need to replicate snowflakes and then use pressure in the air to bind it together to form the ball." He explained as he allowed the ball to sink into his mittened hand once it was finished.

He watched the teacher as he worked on the ball of snow and listened closer to what was being said. He found himself thinking that he should in fact be able to summon snow since... well he was a snowy owl. It only made sense. He took a deep breath to calm himself down, to try to push aside from the earlier, negative feelings and held his hands up to work on trying to call for the snow. It was something oh-so-very slow going though as it was new and it was intricate work until the ice and water were.

"Do you... think its alright, that I want to socialize as well as work on magic? Or should I concentrate more on my studies?" The owl asked as he watched the whirling magic that was at work in his hands. He found himself worrying that maybe spending so much time playing was making him fall behind. Everyone told him he was to serious, should act his age but... now he was worrying that he shouldn't have listened. Worried he was spending to much time playing 'Mom' to his little sister as well.

"I don't want to fall behind or squander my power either."
