Those bright green eyes were a bit startling. Not something one saw on a normal Pikachu... then again, one didn't usually see a black and purple Pikachu like the one battling closer to the water.

The girl looked up as someone drew closer, nodding a greeting to Hayes. "He yours?" She grinned as the Pikachu licked at her fingers. That felt a bit odd... almost tickling.

Kiarei yawns as she strode down towards the show. It was a bit cold, so she rubbed her arms to stay warm. Mizu tailed behind her reluctantly. She wished her Wartwortle would have warmed up to her by now. It's evolution had seemed to distance her further away. Kia worried, but she pushed it out of her mind. It was time to begin training. Autumn hadn't been getting much practice as of late, and Mizu had been restless for a fight. She had planned on letting the two practice against each other.

As she reacched the beach, she noticed their were several other trainers about. Kiarei wondering if may one of them would like to battle, or at least keep her company. She hadn't gotten a partner yet, and everyone usually seemed too busy to chat. But as she was walking towards one of them, she stumbled and tripped, falling face first into the sand. Awkwardly, she stood up, spitting sand out of her mouth. Gross.

Mizu laughed at her, grinning from ear to ear. Oh how she loved watched her trainer being so clumsy.

Sorry? She snorted.

"Like hell you are," the blonde agent muttered, although loud enough for him to hear.

Forget it. She didn't want to deal with Hayes' stupidity at the moment. She came here for some quiet time, which she obviously wasn't going to get here among her peers.

Thus, Nikki jammed her hands into the pockets of her windbreaker and stalked off down the beach a ways. Eventually she stopped and picked out a place to sit on the sand.

Withdrawing a pokeball, she released her best Pokemon. A tall black Pidgeot with a long fluttering red and blue crest. Darkfeather cast his red gaze around the beach before fluffing up his feathers against the wind and hunkering down on the sand next to his trainer.

If Hayes heard Nikki - which he probably did - he didn't seem to take any notice of it apart from a roll of his shoulders. "Something like that," the blond grinned. "He kind of comes and goes, don't you."

Switch gave Niki's hand a final sniff, then bounded up to his usual perch, claws snagging on Hayes' jeans and sweatshirt as he went. Now at eye-level, he pronounced his verdict: "P'chu." Senka's Thunderwave caught his attention next.

"You look familiar," Hayes was saying as Switch, not satisfied with his current view, clambered atop his head. "Makko Town, right? Ow, hey. Watch the ear." "Piiika."

Hayes grimaced slightly while Switch got himself comfortable, then nodded - very slightly - toward the ongoing battle. "So who's your money on?"

Darwin still circled overhead, a dark dot in the sky. This early and so close to open water, there were no good thermals for soaring, but it was giving his wings a good workout.

Niki chuckled, standing up as the Pikachu decided to take a perch upon his human partner. "Huh? Oh, yeah." The Makko Town mission. How could she have forgotten that already? Okay, so it was more of his question taking her by surprise rather than forgetfulness. Her first mission and she'd succeeded. She tried to remember if this boy had stolen a pokemon or not. She hadn't really paid much attention to the others there, other than two of the others, a boy and a girl, had managed to bring in a shiny pokemon.

She turned her attention back over to the battle, frowning. "That Squirtle is rather strong to be holding up against an electric pokemon for this long and that Pikachu seems almost a bit timid in not pushing the fight on." She thought for a moment and shrugged. "It'll probably be close, but if I were to put money on it... probably the Pikachu. You?"

Hayes looked toward the shore, squinting slightly against the salty breeze. "Squirtle's got a type handicap," he mused, "but you're right; it's got guts." His mouth twitched to one side in thought, and then he shrugged. "I'd say it's up in the air at this point. Pikachu'll probably wear it down unless it finishes things quick. Maybe it knows Mud-Slap."

"Anyway." Hayes flashed a grin at the other Rocket and offered her a hand. "I'm Hayes. Was that your first run?"

Ah, yes... Mud Slap. It would be a good move in this battle, though Niki had the feeling that if the Squirtle knew it, it would've already used it against the Pikachu. She shrugged and turned her attention back over to Hayes, smiling back at him.

"I'm Niki," she said, taking the hand offered and shaking it. "And, yes. I just finished with training." She glanced about. "I'd come out here to train up my new Charmander, but it seems everyone else decided to roam the beach this morning... Probably scared every wild pokemon around off."

Hayes brows lifted in surprise. "Another one?" he laughed. His handshake was light and brief, but firm. "This is going to be confusing.. you don't have any nicknames, do you?"

Switch had hunkered down to watch the faraway fight, but at the word 'train' his long ears twitched and perked up. "Piiika," he called and leaned over, waving a paw in front of Hayes' face to get his and Niki's attention.

"Switch, hey." Hayes adjusted his glasses as an errant sweep knocked them askew. "Pikachu. Pika-pi." The mouse Pokemon jumped down and landed foursquare with a puff of sand, cheeks crackling with electricity.

The Rocket tried to smooth down his hair. "He's not wild, but looks like you've got a volunteer."

Hayes' reaction to her name confused her. It took a few moments before it clicked that she'd heard stuff about a girl named Nikki (with 2 k's!) and that he must know her. "Uh... not really. Niki's my nickname. My real name is Nikiana."

Just then, the Pikachu started jumping about and trying to get their attention. Electricity crackled in the air and she chuckled. "So it seems." Any sort of training was better than no training, after all. She plucked the pokeball from her belt, releasing the Charmander.

Pyro blinked and looked about, spotting the girl from the previous day. "Char?" He looked to the other pokemon nearby, tail swaying side to side slowly.
