Y'kar grinned and shook his head. "I can see that being an issue for you, yea. I'm glad Kanna like flitts, the more I manage to get the happier she'll be... I just hope she doesn't train them up into a little fighting force or anything." He allowed a slightly worried frown to overtake his face at that thought, but then quickly shook it away again; it was a factor he wished to appear as if he didn't want to think about too much. In reality he knew very well that his lifemate would be teaching any flitts they got to follow her commands, and his, but to always seem as if it was her idea when they did something wrong. Nothing too bad though, at least nothing too bad anyone would find out about.

“Oh, the tangled webs you weave,” Kannaroth's eyes whirled green with amusement at her lifemate, and pleasure at the idea of getting some firelizards. Life would be a lot of fun if she had a few little minions to do her bidding. Nudging other people's or wild ones into doing things for her was all very well, but it would be better to have a force of her own that she could train to perfection.

"Thanks for the offer," Y'kar went on, reaching out to stroke Kannaroth's neck, "if I don't get one fairly soon, sometimewhen you're not busy that would be great... If Kannaroth would be okay with me riding Shamth, and he'd be okay with me riding him, unless Kannaroth and I are allowed to go between whenever we like by then." He'd rather not go up on the brute blue if he could avoid it, but the draw of a flitt of his own was strong to both of them, strong enough that Kannaroth gave a mental shrug at the idea of him riding the big blue. So long as she got a flitt, she didn't care what Hers had to do to get it.

"...are you kidding me?"

For the first time in the whole process of their working L'pin felt his hands stop, the leather between his fingers pausing instead of being pulled through for inspection. The very fact that Y'kar had mentioned getting near Shamth of his own accord was surprising, but the very thought of actually wanting to ride on him was just outright ridiculous. L'pin knew right away there had to be some kind of joke to this, and Shamth rumbled his agreement quickly.

So you were listening?

Mine, I always listen when you talk. That boy would no sooner come near me than you would his dragon, for she would not allow him and I would not allow you. You are mine.

Shamth gave another audible rumble of displeasure at the direction of the boy, his lips curling upwards to reveal his pointy teeth.

"You shouldn't joke about wanting to ride another Rider's dragon, since some may actually take you seriously. You're luck that I know my own beast well enough to understand what others think of him."

Well, so shoot him for being willing to do what he had to... Probably hadn't been a wise thing to say aloud though, sharding good job L'pin had taken it as a joke. "Yea, well," Y'kar gave a slight grin and shrugged, "I guess my judgment of humor isn't always the best... Still," he gave another shrug and went back to work on his own straps, "it'll happen in the end without me having to do anything so drastic, flitts seem to like Kanna so much I expect a wild one will attach to us eventually even if we never manage to get an egg."

They would though, one way or another, they would get more than one. Kannaroth's flitt army. One day. If he managed to get himself a breeding female, the whole thing should advance a lot quicker too. A gold would be perfect, but a well trained green would do he supposed.

"Ha, the only things golds are better for; breeding." Kannroth gave a rumble of amusement, her eyes sneering dull orange at the thought of the larger females. "Well, that and flying for long periods of time," she added with a mental shrug, "but really, that isn't a big deal; we best them at flying in the end so it's a moot point." Stupid golds, getting everything handed to them no matter how stupid they were. If only they didn't have that nasty command ability, the world would be a very different place.

"Catching the attention of a wild one may not be so bad, though it may become harder to train. I seriously doubt you'll have a problem however since you said Kannaroth and flits do well together. She certainly had a way with Rinel the last time the two met, and I'm wondering if the attraction will be an intense at the next meeting. I may have to see if I can round up a few others to test that theory too, if I can round them up somehow."

L'pin didn't have any idea how he could get more firelizards unless he really stake out Rinel when it came time for her to clutch. It would be nice if she decided to do it somewhere in his weyr, like in a chest or something, but he doubted it would go that smoothly given his luck and the nature of Greens. Silly beasts just clutched wherever they pleased and promptly forgot about it, which did allow for so many wilds roaming around.

"But anyway, I'm letting my hands get idle. I came out here to fix leathers and ended up talking most of the time away."

"Yea, me too, I shouldn't have got distracted!" He was genuinely a little annoyed at himself now; he still had a lot of work to do, and he'd used up quite a bit of time here that he could have spent actually doing things he enjoyed. Shardit. Well, nothing to be done now but damage control.

"I should probably go work on these somewhere else," he decided aloud, packing the half-made straps back into his bag with a rueful smile at L'pin. "I'm just going to be tempted to keep chatting if I stay here... I'll try to meet up with you again a bit sooner this time though." His smile became a grin and he shook his head. "If I keep up with the pattern I set before, I wouldn't meet up with you until Kanna's fully grown or something." Fully grown, and in a wing. They would make it into a wing, there was no reason to deny them the chance; they might not be friendly but they did do as the weyrlingmaster told them. They'd all make it into a wing... chances were though they wouldn't be in the same one; the weyrleader would no doubt think it prudent to keep the terrible trio separated.

"As soon as she's big enough to fly in a wing you'll get your chance, so don't worry. I'm pretty sure a dragon as fast and clever as Kannaroth seems will have no problem adjusting to the drills and lessons that come with flight. Shamth and I did well in them before we figured out our little issues, but since your girl seems more inclined to be snide on the inside they'll certainly give you a chance to soar."

L'pin noted that Y'kar seemed eager to leave at this point and, as much as he didn't mind the company, he rather felt like agreeing. Shamth was still silent, or as silent as he could be, though an underlying feeling of hostility was slowly leaking out of his mind and into L'pin's. He could only stay silent and calm for a bit longer before things would have to happen and someone had a chance of getting hurt.

"But yes, you should get a move on if you have plans for the rest of the day - no point in sticking around and talking to me. I can't help you with anything and you seem to know what you're doing on your own, so it might be better if we meet up later. I would like it to be before Kanna is full grown, since at that point in time we may have others things to worry about."

L'pin didn't specify, but Shamth seemed to know what he meant. There was a rumble of dragon chuckles, barbed with the same hate and wickedness that happened every time he laughed. Despite L'pin trying not to recall what would happen Shamth still seemed to know, and he still was waiting. It would be an interesting time.

"You two get going, and we'll see you later. Perhaps I'll look up one day and see you in the skies?"

Y'kar grinned and nodded. "Count on it; watch for the little green blur!... It was really good to see you again L'pin," he added with a smile as he got to his feet, "take care of yourself until we run into each other again, 'kay?" Lowly as he was, Y'kar still felt that L'pin might have his uses in the future, if only as somebody to back him up when he needed it. Giving the wingless rider a last smile, Y'kar turned and set off for the weyrling dorm.

A moment later Kannaroth rose gracefully to her feet and, with only a sneering glance at Shamth and L'pin, she trotted after her lifemate. "That was boring," she commented with a snort. "Next time you plan to see those two, remind me not to sleep the night before so I can doze through the whole encounter."

Grinning, Y'kar gave his lifemate's shoulder a slap. "Whatever you say Kanna, whatever you say."
