It was now that one might have started wondering if someone had gotten into Dad's secret stash of catnip. The sea did not speak nor was it at all interested in their sand castle. The sea was just doing what it always did, rising and falling with the tide.
Kai settled on his haunches in the sand, watching the tide, fur ruffling as the cold water passed between his toes. Unlike his sister, he was not bothered by the rising tide or the impending downfall of their castle. If the water were to wash it away that was okay with him. He'd just build another one further from the shore. Really it was silly to have expected a mound of sand to last for long, the water always washed the sand. And hey, building the castle had been a lot more fun than just staring at it.
"Or maybe the sea likes it so much than it wants to keep it for itself."
He grinned, flopping onto his back. He liked watching the tide, and the many treasures it brought to the shore.

Dufi didn't believe her brother, nope she was the one who could understand the water, not him!
"No it wants them back!" She was determined but when her brother just sat down to watch the tide came in she came up with a new idea.
"You need to help not sit there! I am going to tell mother your being mean to the sea!" Yes she was indeed going to tell her brother off for not doing something that was clearly in her head. Her mother was use to it though so at least her brother was off the hook for something that well didn't exist.
"Your going to be in trouble!" She then turned and started to run back to the den shouting 'mum' the whole way back. How could her brother dare to sit there and just stare at the water ignoring its wishes?

Kainu'u didn't move from his spot on the sand, the smile never left his maw. He wasn't running after her, wasn't calling in protest, nor was he making a hasty attempt to comply with her request. Why should he? There was no need to, he wasn't especially bothered by his sister's threat (what was she going to tell mom, that he refused to dismantle the sandcastle he'd built because she told him to?).
Nope, he was just going to sit here on the beach and watch the tide come in, yep.
By now the sand was licking at the base of the castle, washing away the sand from the closest side, carried down the shore in a wave of golden shimmers.
He remembered the shell he had collected that morning and retrieved it from it's place on the sand. Holding it in his paw, he watched as the light reflected off the small conch shell, it's color shifting between various shades of pink and orange with how he looked at it. Wow...
Splash.
The tide had risen enough that he was now completely in the water, the salt water rushing through his blue hide with each wave. Whoops, time to move to higher ground, or he really would get yelled at by his mother.
