Location: Flereous Apartment - Shade's Bedroom Time: 10:30pm [Almost bedtime, young man!] Shade yawned and stretched as he finished changing into his sleepwear - today had been long, but he honestly couldn't complain too much. Sure, he'd been all over Vargash, and his sneakers had been thoroughly soaked by the end of it all, but it had all been worth it. The green spark resting on the nightstand next to his bed was proof enough of that. The boy made his way over to his bed and climbed in, glancing to the bubbly stone. He smiled a bit before turning his gaze to a book that lay next to the spark - a journal, to be exact. His mother had given it to him years ago, but...he'd never really had a use for it until now. Now, he felt like he might actually have something interesting to write in it. Shade Well, I went into the Life Essentials shop today; I was sent a letter from them earlier this week. They offered me an Essentic Spark, and I was pretty surprised. I didn't think that I'd ever get offered one. It's a social spark, and I think I'm gonna name it Nyx - I like that name, and I think it fits, weirdly enough. I think Mom was a little weirded out when I told her, but I don't think that she's mad. I just hope we'll be able to feed it when it becomes a proto...that, and I hope that I can be a good sibling to it. That's the purpose I gave it, so I guess I finally got my wish for a younger sibling! Not the way that I imagined it happening, but I've got no complaints. I'm gonna make sure that I do my best; Mom said that she'd help too. I guess we'll all be a family then. I can't wait for the spark to emerge. Maybe it'll be out by the time Christmas rolls around. "Shade!" The boy jolted slightly as he heard his mother's voice. "Lights out! You have school tomorrow!""Okay Mom!"Shade That's all for tonight; Mom wants me to go to bed. I think I'll take Nyx to school with me tomorrow - I don't want it emerging all by itself. Night then! Shade closed up the journal and set it down on the nightstand again before turning his lamp off. Seconds later, he was curled up underneath the blanket, fast asleep.

Location: Flereous Apartment - Livingroom Time: 3:49PM "Doesn't she look cute??" Shade stared as his mother held Nyx up to show him, the little Proto dressed in a pink, lacy dress with a ribbon tied into its blue hair. When the boy had left for school that morning, he hadn't been expecting Luna to do something like this - the boy wasn't sure whether he should find the whole thing amusing or horrifying. In the end, he chose the latter. "Mom, what'd you do??" The boy took the currently pink-clad Essentic from his parent, hardly daring to believe that she'd actually stuck Nyx in the outfit. It looked like...like a DOLL of some kind! "We don't even know if Nyx is a boy or a girl yet!""...honey, if she's not a girl, then I'm pretty sure that I suck at identifying genders." Even Luna's son had to admit that his mother was right on that fact - Nyx DID look rather feminine. "And besides, she can't be wearing that same outfit all the time! It's not sanitary!" She had a point... "I guess...but..." "It is alright, big brother. I like them." Shade blinked and looked down at the Proto. Well, he certainly hadn't been expecting that one...usually, Nyx just observed things. Until then, he'd never heard it voice a like or a dislike for anything. Perhaps this wasn't such a bad thing then. Seeing that his Essentic was currently content with spending some time with his mother, Shade decided to leave it with her for a little while - he had some things to think about right now anyway. The teenager headed off to his room and took a seat on his bed, picking up the journal on his nightstand. Then, pen in hand, he flipped through a few pages and began writing... Shade I haven't written in a while, so I guess this is due. Nyx emerged about a month ago, and things have been going well so far...I think. Mom seems to think it's a girl, but we won't know for sure until it reaches Alter. Mom's started making little dresses for it though, and it likes those, so it's starting to show feminine traits. I don't mind either way - Nyx'll still be a sibling to me either way, and Mom's already taken to it. Even Gidget likes Nyx, so she's pretty much a member of the family now! Nyx's started calling me 'big brother' lately - the first time was while I was showing it how to play video games. I was starting up the game, and it asked me 'How does this all work, big brother?'; I was almost too surprised to say anything! I'm happy though, and I hope that Nyx keeps developing. I think I hear Mom bugging Nyx about something, so I'm gonna go check. Don't be surprised if I don't write again for a while - I've been...busy. Later!

Location: Flereous Apartment Time: 8:03AM Shade was woken by the sound of footsteps in the hallway outside his bedroom. He could hear an angry voice as well, though it took him a moment to realize who it was, as he was still half-asleep - his mother. The young impling glanced to the digital clock on his nightstand and saw that the green numbers were flashing 8:03; he wasn't normally up this early on a Saturday morning. He could hear Nyx in its corner of the room and when he looked, he saw that the little Proto was still fast asleep - the noise hadn't been enough to wake it up, apparently. "We're doing just FINE over here, Dad!" Shade's ears twitched as he heard the angry hiss outside his doorway. Was his mother on the phone with his grandparents again? If so, the conversation certainly sounded heated. Cautiously, the boy climbed out of bed and pressed one of his large ears up against the door. "No, he hasn't dropped out of school! Why the hell would he?" Luna's voice seemed to grow more furious at the accusation. "He's still going, and he's not going to stop an- why would we call HIM?" She spoke the last word with a sharp venom. "He has no right to spend any time with Shade! And Shade's made it quite clear that he wants nothing to do with him!" Shade had an idea of who his mother was talking about - his father. The teenager shuddered at the very mention of THAT man. He still had scars from some of the time that he'd spent with HIM. "Why should we...no! Shut up! You have no right to say something like that! You know NOTHING about him! You know what? I'm not talking about this anymore!" There was a beep, indicating that his mother had hung up the phone. Seconds later, the boy heard a soft sob and he felt his stomach twist. Quietly, the boy opened the door and found himself looking at his mother's back. "Mom...? Are you...okay?" Moments later, he was swept up into a hug by Luna and felt her stroking the top of his head. The boy found his own arms wrapping around her in return and he bit his lip, leaning his head against her. "It's okay, Mom...it'll be alright..."

Location: Flereous Apartment Time: 1:38PM Nyx was bored. Honestly, this wasn't anything new. Normally, the little Essentic found that she (the family had finally agreed that the proto was most probably female) had nothing to do when when Shade was at school. When he got home, her big brother would usually play with her, whether this be through the means of video games or in some other way. While he was gone though, there wasn't much for her to do - she was too small for most games, and trying to talk to Gidget only got her so far. That all changed on this particular day though. Today Luna was off of work and was currently cleaning the apartment. She paused in her work however as she noticed the bored expression on the proto's face. A thought crossed her mind and she smiled, setting down the basket of clothes that she'd been getting ready to fold - she could finish later. "You look like you need something to do." Luna chuckled as Nyx jumped with surprise and turned to look at her. "You know, I think I have some old books lying around. How about I read you something?" The little proto's eyes lit up at the suggestion. "What kind of books, Mama?" The proto smiled as Luna knelt down to lift her up. "Fairy tales. We've got a whole book of them." She carried the Essentic over to the couch and set her down before making her way to the bookshelf. She quickly found the one she was looking for and went back over, sitting herself down on the sofa. Soon, Nyx was sitting in her lap, and the book was open in front of both of them. "How about we start with 'Snow White and Rose Red'?"

Location: About Two Blocks away from the Flereous Apartment Time: 1:36PM "Where're we going, big brother?" Nyx peeked her head out of Shade's hood, watching as pedestrians passed by on the sidewalk. It wasn't often that she was allowed to come outside with her sibling - normally, he was worried about someone seeing her. There was something special going on today though. "You'll see when we get there..." He smiled and glanced at her over his shoulder for a moment. "Just wait a little while longer, alright?" Nyx nodded and ducked back into her hiding place, quite used to riding around in the impling boy's hood - she was small enough to fit in it, and it was more comfortable than the pockets of Shade's hoodie. It didn't take long for them to reach their destination - the Neverland Toy Store. The shop's bell rang as he pushed the door open and Nyx peeked out again. Almost immediately, her eyes widened with awe. Lining the shelves were stuffed toys, dolls, and almost every other toy that Nyx could imagine. "Pick something out." Nyx blinked slightly, surprised by Shade's words. She was allowed to pick one? Really? But there were so many to choose from - how would she ever be able to decide? Her eyes fell upon a rather simple-looking doll. Her hair was made of red string and her eyes were black with little 'eyelashes' underneath them. Her nose was a red triangle, and her mouth was a simple smile with a red circle in the center, probably meant to be lips. The doll's outfit consisted of a simple blue dress with a white apron on top; her legs looked like a pair of stocking, and her feet were a set of black shoes. Despite the simplicity of the doll, Nyx couldn't help but feel quite attracted to it. She tried to look away, not wanting to make a decision too quickly, but her eyes kept wandering back to that particular doll. Finally, she said, "That one, big brother," She did her best to point at the rag doll from behind Shade's shoulder. "Could I have that one?" Needless to say, Shade was surprised by her choice. "You sure? You don't want a...nicer one?" Nyx shook her head. Well, if that was the one that she wanted, then that was the one that Shade would get her. Reaching up, the boy plucked the doll down from the shelf and carried it over to the check-out counter. "Will that be all, sir?" Shade nodded at the cashier's question as he dug around in his wallet, pulling out the money he needed. He had to admit, his new job made this all so much easier, and he was glad that he wouldn't have to ask his mother for money now. "Alright, that'll be $12.50 then." Not that the doll was very expensive anyway, but that wasn't the point. The impling quickly handed over the money and hurried out the door of the shop. Shade jogged back to the apartment and let Nyx out of her hiding place before handing her the new doll. "So...what're you gonna call her, Nixie?""Hmmm..." The little proto thought for a moment as she sat next to her doll, tilting her head at it. "...Rose! Her name's gonna be Rose!" Shade smiled at the Essentic, his tail flicking. "Sounds good, Nixie..."
