Name: Raine Michelle Burke
Codename: Glitter

Academy X Team: Alpha

Age: 18
Birthday: September 13, 1991
Hair: Chocolate Brown. In certain lights it can take on a reddish tint, or can go almost black. It falls in natural curls towards the middle of her back, and she normally wears it down, parted to the side.
Eyes: Hazel
Skin Tone: tan
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 136 lbs
Build: Thin, but toned.
Race/Nationality: American
Notable Characteristics: She has a small tattoo of a lily on her lower right back, as well as a small scar on her left knee.
Uniform: Glitter’s uniform is a little more revealing than most, showing her flirty personality. The top consists of a cropped black top, the area over her chest blue. Two straps of material extend over her exposed stomach attaching to a pair of matching black shorts, a small buckle keeping it from looking too loose. A darker belt wraps around her waist, white buckle keeping it secure. Black strips of material extend from her shorts, attaching to black stockings of the same material as the rest of the suit. As with the strips over her stomach, the ones on her legs are also fastened with a small belt, holding them up. Black, lace up boots finish up the outfit, a special grip on the bottom to keep traction on the slickest of surfaces.
Standard Dress: Raine is always well dressed, but tends towards a “classy casual” look. Jeans, a nice shirt and heels are her most comfortable outfit, and she seems to be fashionable without appearing to put too much effort into it.

Superhuman Ability: Raine has the ability to convert static electricity on the surface of objects she comes into contact with into more powerful electric blasts. On a smaller scale, she can concentrate electricity around her fists to pack quite a punch, even though this cannot be maintained for very long. She can store this static electricity in her body for long-term use, but she has to use stored energy within a few hours of taking it in, otherwise it forces her to be “overcharged.” This often results in an extremely painful electrical burst, as the energy forces it’s way out of her in one blow. If/when this happens, it is a very painful experience for her, as well as devastating to the surrounding area. This usually leaves her very weak, and the headache afterwards is not worth it.

Water really messes with her power, especially in great amounts. In a light rain she can deal with the tingling of the electricity on her own skin, but if she were to be dropped in a pool, or caught in a downpour she would be forced to quickly discharge all her energy at once to keep from electrocuting herself.

Abilities (not gained from mutation) : Raine is a very talented cellist, and loves the beauty that can be created through music. She uses it as a way to calm down and keep her energy use in check. She is also very good at soccer, though she has not played in a long time. As much as she likes swimming, she has not been able to do so since the development of her power when she hit puberty.

Non-mutant Power Skills: Martial Arts (Beginner)

Place of Birth: Malibu, CA
Family: Laila Burke – Mother - Deceased
John Burke – Father (Power – Super Strength) - Deceased
Alice McEwan – Foster Mother (Power – Pheromone Manipulation)
Larry McEwan – Foster Father (Power – Hydrokinesis)
Katie McEwan – Foster Sister / Best Friend (Power – Illusion Casting)

Personal Strengths: Raine is a very strong-willed girl, and is definitely someone that is better to have on your side than opposing you. She is known for getting things done, and getting them done right the first time. If there is one thing she knows, it’s what she wants and how she is going to get it. Once she sets her sights on something, there is little that will prevent her from getting it. She tends to be friendly, even if she has high standards for herself and those around her. It takes a lot to get her angry or down on herself, but once she gets there it is best just to leave her be, as her mood can quickly become volatile.
Personal Weaknesses: Her stubborn nature can quickly be debilitating, and she tends to take criticism very harshly, even if it is meant to be constructive. Furthermore, she can sometimes get overwhelmed emotionally, which unfortunately leads to outbursts of her powers. In times like this, she can turn into a recluse, and might push people away that she would normally welcome. She can lash out violently during these times, and when she loses friends because of this, she sinks into an even deeper state of depression. Her emotions tend to come in cycles, and it is often difficult for her to break out of a bad mood like it takes a lot to dampen a good mood.

Personality: Raine has a rather volatile personality, though underlying it all she is very caring. She goes through the mood swings that any teenage girl goes through, and it doesn’t help that her powers seem to keep her energized all the time. While she has high standards for herself and those she lets into her inner circle, she would never be outright rude to someone unless they gave her a reason to be first. She is always known as the girl that gets things done, so she tends to take on a lot of things to avoid disappointing people. Despite this, she would rather be busy than bored, so while she might complain it is usually clear that she “likes” the stress. Even if she wants to be the best at everything, and rarely gives less than 100% to whatever she attaches her time to, she understands that perfection is impossible. She just wants to get as close as she can, and get that recognition from her peers and mentors.
Hobbies: One of her favorite things in the world is music, specifically her cello. It mellows her out when she starts to get too stressed with things, and it is almost like she disappears into her own mental world once she gets her fingers on the strings and a bow in her hand. Other than that, she really enjoys fashion, and knows how to make her own clothes, even if she hardly has the time to do it. Anything that keeps her busy can be considered a hobby, regardless of what it might be.

View on Human/Mutant Relations: Raine was raised in a family of mutants, and saw how they manages to scrape by a “normal” existence. It is a little hard for her to understand why there would be so many stigmas against mutants, but she is prepared to defend herself and others like her against anti-mutant violence.

History: Raine’s parents were storm-chasers, and died when she was around 3 years old. She has no real memories of them or her early life in the midwest, though she does have pictures that she cherishes as a memory of her past. Rather than stick her in the system, a family friend took her in and adopted her as part of their family, prompting her move to Malibu, California. The McEwans raised her like she was a second daughter to them, and throughout her childhood she was nigh inseparable from her “sister,” Katie.

Even from a young age, Raine showed promise in academics and music, really blossoming when she started playing the cello in 5th grade. Both of her foster parents were big in the entertainment world, her mother working in the publicity realm, while her father was an entertainment lawyer and made a substantial living getting them out of traffic tickets and legal trouble. Money was never lacking, so they were able to give her the early training that brought her natural prowess for music to the forefront.

Schooling went well for Katie and Raine, the latter of the girls showing more academic prowess. Despite their differences, the already close friends discovered another similarity when they entered 7th grade. As both girls entered puberty, their powers fully manifested themselves, resulting in some troubling and confusing days during school. Initially, Raine was reluctant to come out to the McEwans, fearing that they would be disappointed in her and consider her too much of a burden when their own daughter had powers herself. Katie’ powers of illusion were powerful enough, and with them they were able to keep some of the strange things that kept happening to Raine hidden from others.

It was several weeks before the McEwans figured out what was going on, the couple only learning of Raine’s powers when she had an outburst when static electricity from the lockers lining the hallways released an electrical burst that physically drained her entire body. To her relief, they revealed that they had powers as well, and the two girls started a home schooling program that included limited training with their powers to keep them under control. It was good for Raine to have a role model in her foster family, showing her that despite her powers she could live a normal life, free to social stigma.

It was not until they were in high school, confident enough in their control over their abilities, that Xavier contacts the family, inviting the girls to his Academy. There, they would not only learn more about their powers and how to control them, but they would learn how to use their powers for the benefit of themselves and others, all while getting a top-notch education. In the middle of their sophomore year, the girls moved to the Academy, where they took to life there like a fish takes to water. They were roommates, and were able to spend a lot of time together, while making new friends. As she turned 18, starting her senior year, Raine was invited to join one of the junior x-men teams, and she could not be more thrilled, even if it meant separating from Katie for the first time.

Miscellaneous:
~ Raine is in the top 10% of her class.

~ She has to be very careful around water, even when simply taking a shower. Trust me, that get’s annoying.

~ Her favorite food is pork chops.

~ Her least favorite food is salmon.

~ Her favorite color is purple.

~ Katie was the one that gave her the nickname of “Glitter,” which seemed to stick. She said that it was because Raine looks sparkly when she uses her powers, which isn’t far from the truth.
