Illogical? ILLOGICAL?! What was so illogical about figures of speech? It wasn’t like people actually thought they were true, but they were still applicable! Sébastien huffed loudly, folding his arms across his chest in clear protest. Giselle just didn’t understand and it wasn’t helping the mood any. Luckily, she found what she was looking for, forcing the subject off of figures of speech and back onto their search for a hair tie. So she’s been serious about that elastic band? Weird girl.

“I was thinking you wanted something a little more euh… “ Flowery? No. Uh… hrm. He snapped his fingers several times, trying to force his brain to cough up the correct English word. Apparently being hungry impeded his French to English translation. “Female,” he finally settled on, though he knew that wasn’t the word he was looking for. But it was close enough, and Giselle would understand. “But you are to be zhe one who is pulling zhe elastic from your hair, not me.” Apparently she hadn’t wanted a nice, pretty hair tie from the drama room. They could have even got her a plain scrunchie if she’d been bothered to find the classroom. But Giselle was nothing if not practical, and the French teen had to give her credit for that. He would never have stooped so low as to wear an elastic band in his hair. It would be an insult to his country.

He looked at Giselle like she had two heads when she asked what kind of flags he was looking for. Did she honestly have to ask?! It took him several minutes to realize that, you know, she might want answer or something, before he finally said, “French,” and added a dignified sniff at the end. “But I am not thinking zhere will be any here. Zhe appreciation for my country is absent.” It was a sad, sad fate, and one that Sébastien had hoped to correct at Barren Pines. Dying in a fire had kind of put a wrench in his plans, but the teen wasn’t going to let a little fire stand in the way of French appreciation.

At the mention of Elke his mouth curved downward in an obvious frown. She was Giselle’s responsibility? Like he would leave Elke in the hands of an Englishman. Over his dead body. “I will find ‘er too. She is my friend.” While Giselle was definitely better than Avery, he was adamant that he would find his friend too. He wasn’t about to trust other people to get the job done.

"I doubt that the burnt fire victim look could possibly be that much less flattering if I pull my hair back with an elastic." Giselle pointed out, looking down at her singed and sooty apparel. "At any rate, I'll take what I can get." Sebastién was probably misunderstanding things. The hair tie wasn't for fashion, it was for control, because if Giselle could control her hair, that was one less thing to worry about, and she could focus more on fighting the hunger. If she could fix her hair, she could fix bigger problems.

Not that there was any point in trying to explain it to him. They were clearly suffering from a language barrier, or at least a barrier in ideals. Of course the boy who painted romantic portrayals of history would think she needed a more feminine hair tie.

"I am sorry. If it helps, I'm rather fond of Danton and Napoleon." she offered, her tone edging on the concilatory. "They're a few of my favourite people." However, she was still hungry, and suspected that the thoughts nagging at the edge of her mind were more suited to Robespierre than Danton. She licked her lips, fiddling with the elastic to take her mind off of things. As for him finding Elke, she eyed him and tried not to think how good he looked. Could she trust him? True, he was no Avery, thank God, but she didn't know him well. However, Elke was French-ish, and he seemed to at least respect that in a person.

She appeared to reach a decision. "Swear to me you won't hurt her." she demanded. "If you find her, swear to me on France, or anything you hold dear, that if you feel like you're going to hurt her at all, you'll leave."

Elke was popular with boys, something Giselle had no wish to be, nor ever would be. Unlike her boyfriend though, who from what Elke had crooned about, seemed to be nothing more than a smitten and annoying jock, Sebastién seemed moderately intelligent. At least intelligent enough to mean something when he swore it and not just comply without thinking.

The mention of Danton and Napoleon brought a small smile to his face. "Ah, well, you are a diamond among common stones. But zhere are not too many people who 'ave zhe proper appreciation for French things." Idly, he wondered if Pierrette and Fallon were okay. He had yet to encounter his companions from the French Club, and he made a mental note to ask around about them once he'd found Elke. She was his top priority at the moment.

Even so, the seriousness of Giselle's tone caught him by surprise. Sébastien hadn't expected that kind of response from the history-loving teen. Promise that he wouldn't hurt her? How could he hurt Elke? That would be like… like… like burning a French flag, he decided finally. And that was unthinkable. Besides, who in their right mind could hurt Elke? She never did anything worth getting hurt over. It wasn't like she had tantrums in the library or started fights with other people's boyfriends. Sébastien knew all about that.

"I would never 'urt her. Never." He tilted his chin upwards in defiance, as though that settled it. "But I will promise you, if it is promises you are wanting. I promise not to 'urt Elke. And to… leave if I feel like I will." There was a pause for a moment, before jealousy got the better of Sébastien and he said, "Promise me too. What you just said."

"I promise, no matter what, despite any circumstance or impulse beyond my control, I will not harm Elke Arma." Giselle said, and then sagged with relief, whether because it sounded more like it was true when she said it out loud, or because she had gotten the promise out of Sebastién, no one could say. But promise or not, the hunger was still omnipresent. Her stomach growled, and Sebastién was still there, right next to her.

For a horrible moment, she let her guard down and her feet moved towards him practically of their own accord. He was right there. He was just one person. She might be able to take him, and then maybe the hunger would stop, since it had only been growing...

It was only a fraction of a second, but it had happened, and Giselle caught herself before it went any farther. "I should go!" she declared suddenly. "I have to find Elke. And I have to find answers, whichever comes first." She gave him a curt nod before she left. "Good luck, Sebastién."

She didn't know what she was wishing him luck with, but as her stomach growled, she had a feeling that pretty soon she'd need more than luck to cope with the growing problems she was facing. She could fight this urge as long as it didn't keep growing, but it only seemed to be getting stronger.

Good. Very good.

Sébastien gave a single nod in response to her promise. Though Giselle's relief was practically palatable, the French teen didn't seem to feel the same about the promise. To be completely honest he wasn't worried about what Giselle or Avery could do to Elke. All he had to do was find her first, and he could protect her from anything that came their way. He had the power of France backing him after all. Giselle was no threat--

Suddenly they were too close. He took a deep breath and instantly regretted it. God, she smelled good and she was right there. One more step. All he had to do was… His stomach rumbled and he took a second shuddering breath. But before either of them could act, the moment was broken, and Giselle was talking again. It wasn't much, but it was enough to take his mind off his stomach.

"What? Ah… good luck… Giselle."

The French teen turned and gave himself a shake, reaching up to play with his lip before he realized that the ring wasn't there. With an over-the-shoulder wave to Giselle he headed off deeper into the school. He had to find Elke. Or lunch. Whichever came first.
