"Other lions? Like who? Yeah they might not all be bad... but you've seen the red twins... and there could just as well be as many mean ones out there than good. Plus all the other big animals that would want to eat a little lion!" He shook his head. "Hmmph... I don't like it."
But somehow he knew she would probably go anyway. His sister was like that. Once she got an idea to do something she ended up doing it.. or attempting to in any case. He just hoped an attempt like this wouldn't be the end of her.
"Yeah... well, I dunno... I suppose I'll just have to find some neewww friends. One's that aren't planning to leave." He gave her a look but his tone instantly softened and became quieter. "When? When are you going? Are you going to say bye to mum and dad first?" Somehow the thought of telling them she'd gone was even harder than watching her go himself.

Big animals? Well...Kiburi had never seen any bigger animals than a lion...she hadn't even been aware that they existed. But then...her papa had always brought a lot of big meat home. Maybe they were the animals Mchele was talking about?
She shrugged and twitched her whiskers thoughtfully.
"Mchele..." How could she tell him that she felt sorry when she wanted so badly to go? She felt torn in half, one part of her bonded to her family and the other to live on the wild side.
She would come back, she had to come back. For herself, for Mchele and for her parents.
"Soon maybe...and no...no I can't tell mama or papa, they'd stop me, they wouldn't let me go!" There was the edge of panic in her voice. What if they found out? What if they made her stay? She'd never survive the boredom!

The golden sibling whined. "Kiiibbb...." Mimicing the way she said his name. "I suppose the sooner you go the sooner you'll come back..." In fact he was pretty sure that as soon as the first night away came and the cold started she would turn tail and come back. That's what he'd do in any case, if he ever went wandering.
But he was worried about not telling their parents. "What? But they'd have to know! What else will they think happened to you? And and... and if I tell them, I'll get in trouble. They'll tell me off for not saying sooner or letting you go off alone." The panic in her voice was lost on him as he grew worried for himself and of how their parents would react when they found her gone and him knowing about it.

She twitched her ears and sighed softly knowing that Mchele was right...how annoying! She moved forwards and gave a small mew of apology, buffeting the the top of her head against his shoulder in an affectionate thump.
"I'll think of something, don't worry." She gave him a smile that she didn't really feel and after a moment it faded from her slender face.
Why were things so difficult?
"Maybe I will tell them...and if they try to stop me I'll go anyway. If they don't think I'm strong enough then I'll have to prove them wrong. I'll make them proud that they have a strong daughter." She nodded sharply, wishing she felt as confident as she sounded.

His deep brown eyes watched and he sighed when she came to nudge him, her mewling sound apologetic. That only meant she was even more sure of her leaving. "Well think of something. I dun wanna get in trouble because of you. No sister and a telling off! What fun would that be?"
He tilted his head at her when she mentioned being strong. Hmm... sometimes she could hold her own against him. But no doubt there'd be bigger and stronger lions than he! Why, he had even met some himself while wandering about the Pridelands. "What if they aren't wrong? About you being strong enough. When have they been wrong before?"

She gave Mchele a small smile and sat back on the ground, sniffling as the dust irritated her sensitive nose. Why did her brother have to be right? It really was beginning to ruffle her fur!
The truth was that Kiburi truly was a weakling, she was naive to danger, prone to fear and had a curiosity that would always be known to: 'kill the cat'. If she left the pridelands now then her chances were slim, she'd be hurt, enslaved or maybe even killed by the dangers outside. Her only chance would really be to find others to group up with, find a friend who could aid her on her travels.
She sniffed and watched the sway of her tail thoughfully.
"I'll tell papa...he'll understand...I'll tell him then leave..." She gave her brother a look and scrunched up her nose, "I might be small but I have claws and teeth to protect me." Heh well that was a joke, she didn't even know how to use those weapons properly.

Mchele scoffed a bit. "Claws and teeth? Silly..." He shook his head. The more they talked the more she became insistant on going. But also the more he believed she would come running back home at the first pang of hunger and pinch of cold. He really didn't think she'd find any other lions to help her. That was what the pride was for. They were lions who helped you and if you left them... well, you left them.
"I think you should wait a bit, at least. Learn to hunt and take care of yourself. That's what I'd do. But then, I wouldn't go wandering off from the Pridelands." He stood up, the sun having done a fine job of drying his fur, now it just needed grooming again. Wandering to the water's edge he began to lap at the water, what he had originally come here for.

Mchele was right again.
She needed to know how to hunt. She needed to learn how to survive but how? Her mama and papa would become suspicious if she started asking questions about such things, and she didn't want to spark any attention just yet.
With a small sigh she joined him at the water's edge, closing her eyes as she lapped thirstily. She'd start now! She'd find herself some animal to hunt and do it! But...maybe after a nap...
She gave her brother one small look and then turned on her heels before making her way towards the pride rock. "Imma gonna go see mama now." She called back over her shoulder.
Yes...a nap sounded good right about now.

Mchele finished drinking and turned his head to watc her go back to Pride Rock. Was she going to go tell mother and father now? About her plans? Well he certainly didn't want to be there when she told them! That would be a headache no doubt.
He sat down in the clearing and swished his tail. "Okay Kib...." He called after her. "Just make sure you come say goodbye before you go." He didn't want to think about her leaving but going without a goodbye would be even worse.
