"It's a pleasure to meet you Zac," she shook his hand before dropping it and shifting her bag back into both arms. She nodded her head towards the door then and fell into step, careful to wait for him to catch up before she got too far ahead.
"And no, it's just me and my Gran usually. Sometimes there's a random cousin, or maybe one of my uncles, but usually just us." She shrugged a little, not really bothered by the fact that her parents were almost always gone. It had always been that way in her life.
She glanced over at him with a small, amused smile as he talked about a 'ladies honor'. He seemed almost uncomfortable talking about that, which made her pretty comfortable with the fact that he was probably telling the truth. "I don't think that thought would cross Gran's mind, she's a very reasonable woman." She paused and pushed the door to the grocery open with her shoulder, waiting for him to walk out before her.

"Shoot..." he murmured and hurried out to take the door. Damnit he couldn't -handle- this much nice!!! There -had- to be a catch, didn't there? She was very good at acting like there wasn't... but...
"Oh... I... Hm." He fumbled. Should he be sorry it was just them? "It's just my mother and I..." he said fumbling to at least commiserate. That seemed right. But I'm mostly at the boarding school..."

She walked out with her bag in tow, nodding to him as he went to take the door for her. "Thank you," she replied simply, starting her way out towards the parking lot. "I live a short walk down the road this way," she pointed with her hand to the left while turning to look over her shoulder at him.
She wasn't quite prepared for his information share, however, and she bit at her lip a little. She hadn't meant to lay her story out like it was a terrible tragedy, because it honestly wasn't. The way he was speaking, however, made it seem like his maybe was. "I'm sorry," she said softly, her brows creasing a bit as she tried to think of exactly what she should say. "I stay in the dorms at Crystal most of the time myself, I really only come home on the weekends."
She shrugged it off and looked ahead of her. "My life really hasn't been so bad, to be honest, I'm grateful for what I have been given instead of saddened by the things I've lost." She began to walk towards the road, and more importantly, towards her house. "That's what life is about, appreciating what you've been given, I think."

"... I didn't mean it upset me, My... Father isn't dead, he just left. And my Mother prefers it with me at school?" He shrugged just a little. Crystal, wasn't that the really -fancy- school?! "Huh... that's... impressive, I understand its a very competitive school, your grandmother must be proud' he said and, actually sounded like he -was- impressed.

She nodded at the way he explained away his life, trusting him when he said that he wasn't upset by it. That meant that he probably didn't want her drawing it out and talking about it in a blubbery way though, so she simply let it trickle off to an end. "I understand," she said with a small shrug and turned to stare at the road as it stretched out ahead of them.
"She is, she tells me all the time," she exaggerated the 'all', but in the end simply laughed at herself for it. Her grandmother really wasn't that terrible, but she could be a little fussy. "It's not so bad there like some people say, I quite enjoy it." She didn't miss the tone of his voice, the way he seemed almost impressed. She didn't want to draw attention to that though, because she wasn't really that kind of girl.
"What school do you go to then?" she asked, looking over at him as they walked.

"I'm sorry, if I belittled your own...past." he said carefully watching her. "Mmmm...Hillsworth, the one that actually has -long- pants." He said in a tone that said "thank god". "I room with Dimitri, Dem... who seems to know -everyone-... I don't suppose you know him too?" He tilted his head curious.

"Oh, no" she said quickly, shaking her head at him as he seemed to misinterpret her subject-dropping as her being offended. "Don't worry about it, I'm really not all that sore or sensitive about my past. I don't have anything to complain about, in the end." She offered him a reassuring smile, her head tilting a little as she did so, which sent a few of her pale bangs falling down into her eyes.
She brushed them away and turned to stare ahead of them as they walked, judging the distance. Now too far now, perhaps just a couple of blocks. She was glad that the grocery store was in walking distance, it meant that she didn't have to drive and waste any gas to go.
"Oh, I'm afraid I don't," she shook her head, but she did manage a small laugh at the thought of someone knowing everyone, "it'd be a little amusing if I did though." She knew that Hillworth wasn't exactly.. the top notch in school in Destiny City, but if she thought any less of him for it, she didn't show even the faintest glimmer. It wasn't her place to judge why he was there, after all.
"Here we go," she said pleasantly, turning into the driveway of a rather simple but somewhat spacious home. "Looks like Gran is out playing bingo still."

"I'll admit to no small relief that you -don't- know him..." he said almost confidingly. "Were he an internet phenomenon I think he'd have reached 'meme' status already" He said rolling his eyes heavenward for a moment. "Actually I should probably be surprised that he hasn't become one."
He -sounded- bitter about it, but there was just a hint of a smile that quirked the corner of his mouth when he said it, a glint in his eyes that went unchecked. "How may I help?" He asked as he followed up the driveway, taking in the house, its windows and doors, its simplicity too. That he approved of especially, simplicity could be -such- a savior to so many things.

"Uh-huh," she said slowly, pausing a little in her steps as he breached the subject of 'internet phenomenon'. She could gather what he meant by the phrase, but when he started tossing around the technical term of 'meme' she was completely lost. It wasn't that she was secluded from technology, but outside of working with them for projects or homework, Khalla didn't spend much time on computers. "I'm not really sure what that is, to be honest," she admitted, offering him an almost shy smile as she shook her head.
She noticed the small hint of a smile on his lips as he spoke of he other boy, but for once, she wasn't interested in butting into his personal life. It didn't seem to be a problem right now, so she didn't seem keen on fixing it. Instead, she walked up the few steps to her front porch and fished her key out of her pocket to unlock the front door.
"Well, if you like, you could help me get dinner going?" She turned to look at him from where she was standing with the door half open. "I mean, if you'd rather not then I understand, but it could be fun." There was a hopeful smile on her face as she pushed the door open all the way and set her bag of groceries down on the table just inside the entrance.

"Oh...sorry" he said looking embarrassed that she didn't know what he meant."What should I do first?" he asked by means of answering if he'd like to help get dinner going, he glanced at here she set her own bag uncertainly. Should he put his down as well? Shouldn't they go to a pantry or some such? Bother!

She couldn't stifle the small laugh as he began to look so unsure of himself, finding it incredibly adorable. She wouldn't tell him that, though, because as sure as she was that he was sensitive over his height, she was positive that telling him he was adorable probably wouldn't go over that much better.
"Just come inside first, okay?" She waved her hand towards the inside of the house before leaning over to scoop up the bag she had just deposited on the table. "Then we'll go sort out everything that needs to do. Best to have a plan before you dive in." She offered him a smile and stepped to the side to let him in, her mind already making a mental list of all the preparations that needed to be done.
Once he was inside, she shut the door behind him and led him off to the kitchen. They were going to have a lovely time!
