"Good... We, I, I mean. Not good, but you know. Good nothing's broken." The lemur fretted quietly as he hovered over the other daemon. At least it wasn't too bad. That could of turned out very poorly, indeed, but the boy was still alive and intact.

"Just a little spill, nothing to apologize over, son. Everyone slips now and again." He offered the boy a smile after Festa relayed the wolf's message to him. "No harm, no foul. Think you can make it a little further? It's just over that rise." He lifted an arm and indicated a fairly close slope that rose, then dipped towards the small town he had been staying at. A bit of a distance from the dock, in the long run, but he imagined the town-folk weren't exactly keen on having the hovering things so near to them.

It wasn't much further of a walk. The pair and their souls had nearly made it.

"I'll need to gather my things from the inn, and while we are there we can get something hot to drink. If you want, you can rest there and we can depart later." He does look so tired... I'll leave that up to him.

Din nodded in agreement, but regretted it and whined; ears falling as it felt like a strike to his head all over again. “Let’s hope he won’t fall again, else we will have broken ribs.” Dinmeleth was feeling rather unhappy about all of this in a whole; but it was to neither of them knew much about daemons and what they should, so up they had to go to school and now sore, wet; and worn to the last threads they stood.

James gave a small nod, fidgeting as he heard son but accepting it as a phrase. He was still sorry he caused problems by falling, he really should have paid attention to the ground, where there was snow there was ice yet he had forgotten that and really did not think it would snow here so far away from the north. James returned the smile and looked off to the direction that was pointed, he hoped there would not be so much bruising but he could already feel a bruise forming on his back, and the sticky feeling could mean another scrape.

“Would be nice to change clothes.”
If there was a weather James disliked, it was rain for that meant there was mud to get dirty with and it also meant he would get wet; rain did mean good growing plants though and for that he was happy as well as that crisp smell, but other than that wet was not his friend. Felling as if he should reassure the pair he gave another half smile. “If I can live past an attack from an Ice bear I think I can make a slip on ice.” That was something, least it wasn’t an attacking ice bear.

"I ought to have a change you can use." He extended a hand, offering to help the boy from the ice and snow that he had fallen into. He was bound to be most uncomfortable, so he mostly kept quiet for once. At least there wasn't much further to go and it would be mostly down hill.

"After, you get changed, we can leave. I've had the cart driver on stand-by. I bet he's itching to leave just as badly as we are... A bear attack, you say? Dang, how in the world? You're a lucky fellow. Not an armored bear, I suspect?"

“Oh no, the village people assured me it was only and ice bear; the armor bears would never attack a person like that and this bear did not talk. Later the bear was killed and I was given his fur.” He was sad the bear died, but if he had not accepted the blanket they would have burned it as they had made it and tanned it for him the whole while and so it could not be given to any other and the bears killing intent for him while alive would switch around to protect his dreams. “I never got to meet an armored bear; I would have liked to.” He heard they were friendly and kind sort if they trusted you; but not all armored bears were good at speaking.

Din looked to Festa making an unhappy grumble as he did, he did not like that bear yet he was thankful to it all the same. “It was because of the bear that I appeared, James called out for someone and I came to being.” His ears twitched and he nudged James to get him walking, this time he would watch for the stupid ice.

"Ah, I was hoping so. For an armored bear to attack, that would be signs of bad times." The older male sighed as he stood completely, stretching his limbs. His knees popped as he did so, but he payed no attention. They were so near to the town that they were practically at the main gate. The sky seemed to be clouding over, a sign that they needed to keep moving, else it would be far more difficult going on down the road.

He matched his pace to the boy's, however, to help keep an eye out for him. Just in case. He'd hate for the younger fellow to slip and fall again on his watch. He felt partially responsible for the little spill and had been mentally chastising himself for it.

"Double sided, a love hate sort of thing." Though the snow was cold on his paws, he remained on the ground, sticking near to the wolf. His long tail curled upwards, arching. "You were already a being. You just weren't /out/. You two are the same. I came to Heck when he was still in school. Younger school. An all boys school. Not as dramatic as being assaulted as a bear, I'm sure. Children can be terribly cruel."

James readily agreed, he was so shocked to have the bear attack him, but he was very thankful for it not being an armored bear; he never did get a good look at the large thing when it was alive, but the hunters who took him down reassured him it was an Ice bear and nothing that could talk or understand, though the fox in the north could talk to Daemons he heard, but they lied all the time so to trust such a creature would be foolish. “I heard it was bad times though.” He had heard of strange things, but now as he tried to think of them; he couldn’t remember what those things were.

Blue eyes flickered to Hector, the teacher was watching him much as Din was doing, and he wondered if he had hurt the professor when he fell. Din nudged his hand and James absent mindedly stroked the large ears before moving his hand away and letting Din mess with Festa.

“Yes, or something.” Din remarked; a little ruffled still about the bear problem. What Festa said caught his attention and again it drew on memories of the airship captain and how horribly rough and rude he was to them. “Festa, why was James and I treated badly since I was male?” He shifted his ears and turned gold eyes at the ring tailed fellow who despite his size seemed able to move quickly; but Din wondered if he was not hurting his and his human’s feet and hands. Din silently questioned James, brushing against him for contact as he did.

Din watched James bite his lip but slowly he gave a small curt nod, and Dinmeleth could feel his nervousness still from his agreement. “You are bound to be hurting, I changed only a bit to what you are and I was freezing.” He hesitated, another nod from James and he turned back to Festa. “You can get on my back, James said it was fine and he could count it as repayment for making you both worry.” Giving his tail a single wag Din kept walking to keep pace with everyone, he and James had not tested how far they could be apart; he wasn’t about to see now though.

James had also not willingly let anyone human or daemon touch him, if a human were ever to try Din knew as clean as he knew the snow was white; James would tear into them as if he were the wolf. Though, Din was sure one day he would feel calmer about it all, Din would just need to wait.

"It is... We don't need anything making it worse, that is for sure."

Just as Din had wondered, Hector was rather uncomfortable. This could be seen in the way he cupped his hands and tried to warm them with his breath, but he never complained. He continued to move steadily, being mindful to keep an eye out for slick patches of ice.

"Many thanks to you and James. Heck certainly wasn't going to complain, but we'd both prefer to have our feet warm." The lemur chuckled softly as he spoke to the wolf. He avoided answering that first question for a moment as he mounted the white furred creature and seated himself comfortably along his back, warmed by the thick pelt of the other daemon. His ringed tail looped lazily, then hung to one side, dangling from Din's back.

"Well, it isn't a simple question, nor does it have a simple answer." He sighed after a moment.

"You see, often humans have a daemon that is the opposite of their own sex or gender. Obviously you and I are a little different."

James nodded. “That’s true, as it is, enough things go wrong.” It was a sad fact, but true. James saw Hector warming his hands, or trying to. He was glad he had agreed and let Din carry the other daemon. Looking ahead he felt as if he would freeze to death soon if they didn’t reach soon. He would pull out his coat from the bag as well as a warm and dry set of clothes. As well as seeing Hector warm his hands, James was surprised to see the professor watching for ice, he gave a small smile for it but did not try to bring attention to the fact he noticed both.

“Yes, I agree with you, though I have no trouble with the cold James most certainly does.” Looking to the youth he saw his lips thin and knew he was holding himself in check from showing anything that would reveal his discomfort. Din turned his ears to the sudden sound of a bird, but the thing was far off and not so big by the sound of it. So finding no danger from the sudden sound Din’s attention turned back just in time to feel those strange small hands clutch his fur and Festa leap to his back. Din did not feel any different than a touch from James would, but he saw his boy shiver softly and close his eyes just for the briefest of moments.

When Festa next spoke Din listened patiently, careful to move slow and sure so as not to jolt the other daemon off his back. “Yes, I noticed most that way you are the first me and James have seen to e like us; but why are there so few?” Din turned his head so he could look at the lemur with one gold eye before he turned to face in front of him again as his paws kicked a small rock making both him and James sulk a bit before they erased the fact from thought. "Why are we treated so differently by others, distaste or indifference?"

Hector nodded, seemingly gravely for a moment. But the grave expression lasted only a split second and he donned his usual cheery demeanor. They weren't far now, in fact, the inn was not but a few yards away. For this he was extremely thankful, for cold weather was far from his thing.

"To be honest..." Festa paused for a moment, then sighed, "I don't really know. Hector has been different, always. Unlike most boys, he wasn't attracted to girls. I think that might of been part of it. I don't know if it is the same for your boy, or the same for other humans with daemons like us." He held tight to the daemon's thick fur and his ringed tail flicked slowly as he mulled over the questions Din posed.

"And humans seem to dislike things they don't understand. Most humans have a daemon opposite their gender, so we are not the norm. It's harder for them to understand us. Otherwise, I'm not quite sure how to explain it..."

"Well, looks like we're here!" He chimed as he climbed the small set of steps that led to the inn's porch. He opened the door with a gloved hand and held it for the boy and their daemons.

"Watch your step, bit of an incline here."

James saw the sad look and felt bad, but soon the professor was perked up again and James smiled softy. As they walked he did not feel the need to speak again, really he was quiet fine just to move beside him, and oddly he felt calm despite the small touch to his daemon he could still feel. He too could see how close they were and almost sighed with relief. He could do cold if he wore the right stuff or even if he wasn’t wet; but he would rather someplace warm and small.

Din listened with keen interest, as the first part was explained his eyes widened; did James do that to? Looking toward his human he nudged his side before talking. “Disliking someone just because of that, really a stupid thing,” and Din growled softly, James hand reached out to stroke his ear in a second though and he quieted, know his Human could feel his anger.

“James, do you like girls?” He asked it out loud in a soft and quiet like voice, he did not mind two others had heard. Din could tell his human was surprised by the question, even more so that Din asked out loud for he had never heard him do that. “I don’t know, I guess,” but this answer was received by a shake of Din’s head.

“No, would you have one forever?” It took James a minute to understand what Din was asking, but when he got it his brows furrowed and he thought of all the girls he had seen before. They were pretty and delicate, soft and seemed to always be bothering with one thing or another. “No, I cannot see myself with any girl Din, why did you ask?” He turned blue eyes to look at his Daemon, not minding now they had talked out loud; though James mind still had not made any connection to anything; and Din knew it.

“James, would you take a boy?” He asked it in the same soft and quiet voice, he knew doing it out loud might hurt James but Din wondered if he might need help with this. James surprised, made a small hiccup like sound and his pale blue skin turned a light pink shade as he blushed at the question, his mind turning to a few men he had looked at and admired more than should be normal. Inside he was struggling to keep his feet moving in a steady walking pattern, he had know heard that the professor beside him was the same, and his instinct told him to deny it venomously.

Din however knew what his boy was thinking and lightly grabbed his hand into his mouth, giving it a soft n** and tug. “I guess so.” James felt hurt, he could not think why Din would ask him to say this out loud, he felt like leaving and making Din stay; but it would hurt both of them too much. Suddenly though they were there, and Hector was opening the door for them, but James blush deepened and he just stood there looking every bit as if he would run. Mentally he demanded Din why he would ask him all this out loud, but his Daemon out loud, gave a low rumble and whine like sound.
