Tinnumir Tim Burton? That would be interesting. I love his work, but I just don't think he would be the right style for ST. It would ruin it, I think. I just checked IMDB, it says Sam Mendes is directing. And that's about all it says, aside from a 2006 release. Anyone know who's gonna play who? It probably won't happen, but I would love to see Angela Lansbury reprise her role as Mrs Lovett. She was fantastic. I saw the news posted on MovieMusicals.net, but it cites "anonymous sources" as the base of the news, so I'm still crossing my fingers and hoping that it's a rumor. And I'd love for Angela Lansbury to reprise her role, but I'm not sure if she would.

Hmmm. I heard on MSN news that it was definitely Tim Burton, and that they weren't even started on production yet.
I also heard that Johnny Depp was going to be playing Todd, but he was having a voice over done on some parts because he couldn't sing all the opera. Kinda lame....
All I say is, it better be good.

Depp would be horrible. I liked the first rumor going around. The one that said Kelsey Grammar was going to play Todd (I probably spelled Kelsey Grammar wrong). I think he would be perfect.

I dont think Burton or Depp will be a part of the Sweeney Todd film. Burton just got done doing Corpse Bride and Charlie... back to back. He's exsausted! And Depp is still working on Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Though I think it'd be cool to have them both on the project, it just doesnt seem possible to me.

True, Burton and Depp have both had incredibly busy years, which would definitely be votes against them doing Sweeney Todd. BUT! As difficult as it is to see Depp as Todd, I can sure see Burton taking on the project, what with all the care he puts into the aesthetics of his movies, but as far as Johnny Depp, has even been in anything musical, besides Crybaby? I'm not doubting his talent, but from what I've read, if Depp does take on this project (which from what all you are saying, sounds rather doubtful. And I choose the collective poweress of the theatre geeks of the world over MSN news in these matters) then I would have to say Burton would be wise to choose a relative unknown, at least to the world of movies.

According to everything I've read, Burton and Depp *want* to team up together to do Sweeney Todd. Personally, I'd love to see what Burton could do with the material. But...god. Depp should go nowhere near Sweeney Todd. Next thing you know, they'll have Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Lovett. *shudders*

If this rumour about Sweeney being made into a film turns out to be true, God help them if they don't cast George Hearn and Angela Lansbury (which they won't, of course)

Really? Huh, never knew that. Has anyone heard the new recording? I didnt think it was very good. It wasnt as strong as the original, the orchestra just didnt have enough kick, and I guess Im just madly in love with Angela Landsbury as Lovett.

I'm reviving this topic because I just saw the revival of Sweeney Todd on Broadway. It was absolutely amazing. Michael Cerveris was astounding, and Patti LuPone, while not as good as Angela Lansbury, recreated the character completely to be much more sex driven. And who knew that she could play the Tuba? (For anyone who doesn't know, the cast is also the orchestra onstage) The entire cast was amazing in acting, singing, and orchestratons. I'm definitely seeing some Tony's for best revival, best actor for Michael Cerveris, best supporting actor for the man who played Tobais, and best direction. It was so simplistic, yet very haunting. Especially since I was 4th row Orchestra, which meant that Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett were able to glare at me. I got pictures with them afterwards. God I love stage doors!
