At the compliment to his score Demy had to resist the urge to preen. He had logged many an hour playing these games to get where he was, and he'd take every comment that came his way! "Thanks man!"
"Of course I'm up for another round! You pick the song alright? Sorry, not everyone likes fret-jumping like I do." Demy scrolled through the alphabet. S - T - A - R. There! Perfect! He always signed the arcade games with STAR. It's what he was, afterall. Now just to wait for the other to finish signing in.
"Just think, we're the first two to get scores on this machine. Feels good, ya know?" He glanced over, watching to see how the other signed his name.

A-N-R-!. An exclamation point made everything better when there were four letters to choose from. While he did have his online alias powerupX, that didn't come until after he met his then-Power Up Hour partner which kick-started the whole thing. Ah, memories...
"Eh, I prefer having a list that's full of other gamers, since it makes you feel really accomplished to top them, you know? It makes spending quarters here worth it since in the end, you can look back and go 'HA! I topped you, S.T.--"
Alexander had turned to his opponent while speaking, his jaw open and speechless as he saw how Demy signed his name. S.T.A.R. The very same STAR whose scores he had beaten again and again? The same one whose name plugged up the Tetris machine?! The same one he kept trying to top time after time again and again?!!

"True man, true. But it's also like...I dunno, it's like staking territory or something. Then all those other gamers will see our names, and then we'll come back later and wipe em off the board. Ya know?"
Demy was lost in his ramble for a moment, but by the time he snapped back out of it Alex was finished inputting his name. Awesome, seemed like he was playing against an ANR!
.....................
Wait a moment.
"YOU'RE ANR! ?! Like...r-really man, you're not just making up the name on the spot? You're -that guy- who's scores are all over the friggin arcade?!"

"Ah! You got me there - I didn't even think of that! Some might even see our names and just leave for another machine too, heh heh!"
...
...
Well, at least he wasn't the only one shocked by the news. "You can't be STAR!" He replied, "I mean, you could be but to be STAR man that's just -- butyeah, you're lookin at the one and only ANR! Self-proclaimed champ of the arcade and crownless king, right here in the flesh!" He grinned and gave a thumbs-up, before sobering and pointing at Demy.
"YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!"

"I'm totally STAR man! Not so much king of the arcade, but definitely the king of Guitar Hero!" And he even had a crown! ...W-what, don't look like that! It's totally NOT a Burger King crown! PROMISE.
Ahem.
"YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" Demy threw the exclamation right back, his own hand outstretched to point at the other.

From Burger King or not, if Alex knew Demy had a crown... well, Hillworth would have a pretty epic* hat battle between the two until said hats became confiscated.
"YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU! Wanna play another song so I can shamelessly top your score again like I do on all the other machines c'mon you know it'd be epic considering how often we're constantly beating each other or falling short of beating each other on a daily to weekly basis you know I've never seen you around here what time do you usually come in?"
Oh Alex. It seems you've finally met you rival in both games and ability to ramble.
* In their minds, at least. Everyone else would have probably been wondering what they were smoking.

"Of course man, just pick a song! Though uh, dunno about that whole topping my score thing. You might have high score in most of the arcade, but this here? This is my territory." Demy was a gamer, but he really only specialized in these sorts of games. The rest were just fun time wasters, with Tetris holding a special place in his heart.
"Come in whenever I can man, sometimes it's hard to get away from Hillworth. Speaking of, which school do you go to hrmm? Maybe we'll meet up more often so I can -really- show you how it's done."

"Aw, why stop at most when you can try for all?" Alex asked, grinning as he flipped through the songs. "I mean, sure once you get something doesn't mean you should stop y'know? What's the point after that? Like, you can totally go rescue someone, but who's to say that she's really in that castle? What'll you do, stop at the first one? No way! You go on and on 'til another challenge comes up and there's more things to raid!"
The boy clicked and settled on a song, looking at Demy in surprise. "Aw man, you're from that dump too?! No way man! How'd you wind up there?"

"Just saying, you aren't claiming this territory. Though if you ever manage to...heh heh, I'll be there to claim it right back. And then the battle starts all over again kinda...well kinda like it's been going."
Demy fit in a quick stretch before preparing himself for the beginning of the song. "Yep, go to Hillwor---wait, too? Does that mean -you- go there? No way man, just no way." To think that all this time his epic rival went to the same school! "Uh...messed up homelife, may or may not have shoved some kids around..ya know, the usual." He didn't seem to want to go into details. It was depressing stuff, and Demy didn't like to stay depressed for too long.

"Oh yeah?" Alexander grinned at his opponent, trying to size him up. It was true that Demy was better than him at guitar hero... But dude! The challenge! He glanced at the machine, calculating. If it was one quarter per song, no extra lives or credits... hm. Was it worth it?
Hellyeah! It was about time that he saw his rival face to face. "Yeah way! Staying at home would've been a drag, so it's off to Hillworth and their shoddy rooms'n'services! It's a lot better, even if I can hear someone's music through the floor."

"It's not -all- that bad I guess. I dunno though, it can be a huge bummer at times right man?" Namely with the lack of self expression. That was one thing Demy had a hard time dealing with. But hey! Somehow he made it through his classes, and that's what mattered in the end. Or something. "...Music huh? Sounds like you have an awesome neighbor. About where on the campus is your dorm hrm?"

Alex gave a mock-shudder. "At times? You wouldn't believe it from the entire freaking flute section attempting to lift your quarters to the food fights that break out in the cafeteria! I mean, sure the place is interesting but c'mon there's a 'good' kind of interesting like the design on the back pocket of a girl's jeans to the 'bad' kind of interesting like getting caught in the middle of sneaking out of the dorm in order to go check on your outdoor art project which happens to be plastering stickers all over a tree y'know?"
He added a shrug. "I guess it's okay enough since my roomie and I managed to create an extra lock for our dorm room, even though he moved away and all. My room's part of that one side-complex with the showers that have only cold water. Sucks in the winter, but at least it's a way to guarentee not falling asleep in class. You?"

"Hey man, at least you're not constantly running around to free your roomie from his locker. My buddy attracts the larger guys -like whoa- and I'm constantly having to free him. But hey, it's alright ya know?" The location of the other's dorm made him c**k an eyebrow. ...It couldn't be. It just... "Really now? And just what kind of music are you treated to on a daily basis hrmm?" He had to wonder if it was a mixture of the songs found on various video games with a bit of crazy dance music mixed in. Hrm...
As the song started, Demy shifted his gaze back to the video game screen. His fingers were poking their way around on the frets, hitting all they keys with only the occasional slipup.

"Hey, better to be on the outside than in! It's so dark in those things! I used to get shoved into one when I had one and it sucked because my backpack had books and sharp corners, then I got smart and kept everything in a room and managed to successfully get a lock on the door so whenever I get shoved into lockers I just play games. Gotta love the handhelds, since they pass teh time quite nicely."
Alex eyed Demy. "Rock'n'roll guitar music and trance-dance remixes and whatnot. Kinda like what you'd find blasting here at the arcade! Do you know who it is? If you could, tell'em to crank it up a bit -- it beats listening to my neighbors, y'know?"
His attention focused on the screen, encouraging the boy to ignore his rival-partner for now and concentrate on the scrolling buttons.

"Man what is it with all you guys getting shoved into lockers? -I've- never been shoved into one, pfft..." Sheesh these people and their locker prisons. Demy briefly considered starting up a locker freedom side-business, but quickly dismissed the thought.
"..Turn it up huh? I think I can handle that." Oh yeah, there was no doubt about it. This kid must room around him somewhere. Hehehehe, -awesome-.
And there they were again, epic battling for title of most awesome rockstar EVAR....or at least in the arcade at that time.
