Thanos shifted his feet nervously. How exactly could he explain to her the truth. He couldn't simply blurt it out...could he? Damnit this was so infuriating. Things were so much easier in Hell, even amongst those of his herd he never had to struggle this much. His half tail swished as he tried to think fast. "Since uh..." He started but once again couldn't bring himself to say it.
"He's a lost cause!" War cried out. "Stop that. He is not a lost cause. He just needs to figure this out himself." Peace replied.
Thanos snorted, well they were no help at all. Shouldn't they be telling him what to say or do. It's what they always did. Now was not the time for them to be silent. He shook his mane trying to get their help.
"Tell her the truth." Peace said finally figuring that he should lend some help to Thanos. Poor boy just didn't have a clue what to do. "What's the worse that could happen?" "She could hate him. Which would be great!" War stated. "How would that be great, he doesn't want her to hate him." "Hush, let those who wish to hate do so."
He looked at Imbri and took a deep breath. "Since I lived." He stated bluntly. There he said it. No more beating around the bush. He glanced away looking at the nearby river, his mind worked a bit better when he didn't look at her.

Imbrium twitched her tail idly at a pesky fly as she thought through the stallion's answer. Since he lived? What was that supposed to mean. He might have meant figuratively but by the look of his body and the way that Thanos had said it, she was pretty sure he had meant literally. Should she run screaming? No. It wouldn't do her any good. Obviously there were things in this world that she did not understand, such as her glowing eyes. So why should a stallion coming back from the dead frighten her? It didn't. It simply fascinated her.
"So," She started. "Let me get this straight. You mean you were alive but now you're dead?" She let her words sink in for a moment, giving the stallion a chance to answer and trying to sort it out for herself too. "I suppose that isn't necessarily any stranger than my own eyes. I mean, I've never met any other horse who was or is different." That brought a thought to her then. "So, the rest of your herd. Are they all... dead too?"
It was an interesting thought. A herd full of dead, or was that undead, horses. Well it did make sense that there would be more than just one of him. I mean if he came back from the dead he couldn't be the only one. "Oh! What was it like being dead? Oh wait, are you in purgatory?" Now there was a really interesting thought. She supposed that would make sense.

Thanos looked back at Imbri now that his mind had settled a bit. He was actually surprised by her reaction. Perhaps this was a good thing. It was obvious to him that she didn't scare easily or she would have ran away at first sight of him. "Yes, I was dead and now am alive...in a manner of speaking." His head bobbed slightly. "My herd is also dead."
"What's wrong with this mare? Shouldn't she be running away in fear? I don't like her one bit." "You liked her a moment ago when you thought she would hate him." "That was because I thought she was hate filled. Now she is just another stupid mare." "She's not a stupid mare." Peace stated.
For a moment Thanos was so relieved that Imbri couldn't hear the rats. Sure she had been quite accepting of him telling her that he was dead. But talking rats might be that little detail that pushed her away. He shook his head. "No, I'm not in purgatory." He stated. Though he really had no idea what that meant, he would ask the rats later. That was if he could remember to do so. "What it's like being dead...well..." He started. "It's not anything I want to go through again. I spent years roaming Hell, there is nothing there but pain and regret. Nothing like that here. He stamped his foot, damn why was he still talking with her. He had a herd to keep track of, and that took all his energy some days. Now he was busy chatting it up with this mare when he should be....should be what? Curses what had he been doing before he chased after this mare thinking she was one of his.

The mare pondered a moment over the stallion's words. So he wasn't in purgatory? She had thought that had made sense but if he said he wasn't then he mustn't be. From Hell though? The thought scared her for just a moment. What had he done in Hell? What about his herd? And now that they were back what would they do in the mortal world? Imbrium shook her mane and her head, trying to rid herself of these thoughts. Perhaps this was a second chance for them. It didn't necessarily mean that they were evil, just that they had done some not so good things in their last life.
"There is no pain and regret here? Surely you must be mistaken." Out of all of the Stallion's words, those bothered her the most. The first years of her life had been nothing but pain. The way the herd had looked at her had always hurt her. Most of the time she had always regretted that she had even been foaled. No, there was plenty of pain and regret in this world.
"So then, how did you get out of Hell?" Imbri wasn't sure how personal of a question she was asking but the thought did puzzle her. How did one get out of Hell and into the living world? Especially a whole herd. Oh! "Can I meet your herd too?" The thought excited her. A whole herd of dead er... sort of dead horses must be an interesting sight indeed.

"How did I get out of Hell?" He repeated the question more for his benefit than anything else. Well how had they managed such a feat. It happened not that long ago so he should be able to remember...right? He shifted his weight around while thinking on it. Well damn...he couldn't remember the details. "I...I don't exactly remember how we got out." He finally told her, and that was the truth.
"You idiot how could you forget so soon how we got out!" War chirped. "Be nice to him, he needs time to remember things."
Thanos was about to argue with the rats when Imbri's question interrupted him. Could she go and see the herd? His head tipped to the side in thought. Something told him to say no, he just needed to figure out why. Then he remember why she wouldn't be able to see them and stamped his hoof. "No! Absolutely not!" He said quite suddenly and with quite a bit of anger in his voice. "I just finished lecturing my herd on not bringer outsiders to the herd...and under no circumstance am I going to break that rule now. I would only lose their respect by doing so." And Thanos was not about to give up that respect just so that this....this silly mare could indulge in a bit of morbid fascination. He let out a snort to punctuate his point.

Imbri was immediately hurt and taken aback by Thanos' words. She honestly hadn't thought that he would say no. Their conversation had been going so well, or at least she thought it had been. Although she was disappointed she did have to admit that he had a point. If he went breaking his own rules then the herd wouldn't treat him with as much respect.
"That's understandable." She nodded as she spoke. "We couldn't have them disrespecting you. What kind of herd leader would you be then?"
Imbri paused for a moment. Had the sun moved even farther through the sky? Well perhaps she had stood around talking for long enough. This stallion had more important things to be doing then talking to plain mare like her. It wouldn't do at all.
"I can see that you're busy and I must say I should be moving now. It was a pleasure to meet you and perhaps I'll see you around sometime soon?" There was a slight tone of hope to her voice as she spoke her last words. Perhaps he would change his mind, insist that she go with him. Or maybe even just want her to stay a little longer. Even though she wished for these things, she doubted he would stay much longer.

"No, we certainly can't have them disrespecting me." He replied firmly. He had worked hard to get where he was now...well not really but he had shown the most potential for leading within the group and so he was their leader. It had been decided before leaving Hell that he would lead them on their quest. His glowing eyes moved to the sun for a moment. Had they really been talking that long? He really did need to get back to the herd....and yet couldn't he stay just a bit longer.
"We must be getting back now, the others will be wondering where you are." Peace told him. "Yes let us leave this mares company and return to our brothers and sisters."
Though what she said next gave him some...hope. While they would need to part ways now they could indeed see each other again. He would look forward to that...in some odd and twisted way. "Yes, will will see each other again." He told her with confidence. The he quickly stepped forward, pushing his bony nose against her in what could best be interpreted as a nuzzle and then stepped back. "Goodbye." He told her and then turned to quickly trot off. He could have stayed for a moment to see what her reaction was or if she had anything else to say but he didn't think he could deal with that right now. So instead he continued on in the direction of his herd, with his thoughts on the black mare he had just left.
