Donny stared up at Armel's work while setting pillows on either side as doors. "Wow Armel, you really good at this." He breathed out, in a rare moment of being impressed with something other than himself. It was a once in a lifetime privilege.

He stuck his head out from behind a cushion and caught sight of a trophy, with a little man on top. The man held his hand up high in the air in some sort of odd triumphant pose.

Nio's smile quirked in slight confusion at the question. What did he think Pales was? Well, he was a Gaian, and he was a man, these he was sure of. Otherwise, Nio realized he really didn't know as much about his friend as he would have liked. He was sure Pales knew he was a cabbit, but he truly didn't know what Pales was. Perhaps he was just a human. Now that would be creepy.

He patted Pales on the shoulder softly, his smile returning to it's sure, carefree lilt. "Easy. You're my friend."

He seemed to realize the big deal complimenting was because Armel just pretty much broke into a maniac grin, "Thank ye, yer doin good yerself!" He rebounded the compliment easily, and it was true he could not ask for a better partner ... in crime!

"What y'lookin' at Donny?" He enquired trying to get a glimpse himself. Intruders already?

Where most would have taken Nio's answer as a cop out, Pales seemed to readily accept it with an almost relieved smile, "Yeah? I hope to always be your friend, Nio. I could not ask for no one better to befriend."

Technically he never lied to Nio, but Pales had lived a lie even on the day he met his friend. It was time to stop, and stop hiding. Why Pales was hiding was because of himself. He was ashamed and frightened of himself, but now was time to break free of those bonds, "I am a shapeshifter. Well, a very limited sort. I have two other forms. That bird," he nodded toward the resting crow, "Is like me. He's my mentor, Albion." At that point Pales just stopped explaining and let it sink into Nio's mind first before going any further.

Donny's grin broke wide and his eyes turned maniacal, glimmering with ideas.

"Oh.. you'll see." And with that he was off, hopping toward the desk where the statue stood, quickly surmising just how hard it would be to get up there. This time, however, he wouldn't forget his advantage. In a moment he was in the air, reaching out for the statuette. He grabbed it with one chubby hand, but it slid out of his grasp and fell tumbling to the floor with a clatter. He fluttered down after it, tumbling to his feet and grabbing it up off the floor. With a triumphant giggle he headed for the fortress, and climbed up it's hazardous edge to to top of the couch. He turned the trophy around, so that the man's hand pointed at it, and slammed it down as hard as he could. The trophy sunk into the interior of the couch, and when Donny let it go it tilted a few inches to the right, and hung there like the tower of pisa.

"I CLAIM THIS FORTRESS IN THE NAME OF DONNY AND ARMEL."

Nio was very happy to hear that Pales wanted to stay his friend too. However, he could sense the hesitance in his friend's words.. and then heard the reason. His expression didn't change, even in the silence after the confession. Nio blinked, and remembered when Enoh tried to hide that same truth. He remembered when he did the same. He wondered just how many people held secrets like these, and how they affected their everyday lives.

After the long silence he gave Pales a reassuring smile. "I'm really glad you trust me enough to tell me that, Pales. I feel honored.. and you don't have to worry. You'd be surprised at how much experience I have with shapeshifters.. I guess this means I should tell you I have some secrets about me too, shouldn't I?" It would probably be best if Pales knew the kind of things that would get Nio in trouble, and besides, he deserved to know after all.

Above all, he had the feeling that Pales expected him to be more surprised. Unfortunately, living in Gaia had dulled him to many, many things..

Pales in many ways preferred the non-shocked and non-frightened reaction. It made him feel as if he had told someone that he could trust and felt right away accepted as he was. So instead of seeming disappointed Pales smiled widely, "That's one thing off my chest." He laughed a bit.

The crow whilst on his perch made no sound just sort of shook himself out and turned his back to them so as to nap better. Pales seemed to ignore the bird and quite happily so.

"Well, my friend, we have time to explain things about ourselves to eachother, so feel free to tell me what you are comfortable with." He nodded at Nio, responding to the commentary of the secrets that needed to be told. Truth be told he likely would be surprised at Nio's experience with shapeshifters. Impressed even, but as of now that is neither here nor there.

Armel simply watched his friend carefully as he went to work in order to procure the trophy from it's spot. Pales had set his trophys in Armel's froom for whatever reason the boy could not put a finger on other than the fact that they seemed to fit nicely there. So the ram-horned boy never questioned his Da's designing quirks. The trophy was for something or another he couldn't quite remember, but nor did he care.

He flinched when the trophy fell, "Careful, Donny, Da' was awful proud o'that one." He cautioned, but he still wore a smile, he knew his friend would be careful without the caution.

"Fortress 'as been claimed!" Armel cheered happily doing a victorious pose similar to that of the trophy.

Pales sat up a bit straighter glancing back toward the hallway where the rooms were, he heard a clatter, but no crying. He shrugged it off, "Boys will be boys..."

Comfortable. It was a feeling Nio had, at one point in his life, never expected to feel. Yet here he was, with someone he considered one of his closest friends, and he felt perfectly comfortable talking about what he was with him.

He had a good life.

"Well, it's pretty simple. You see, I'm cursed." He said that with the same smile he said everything, which made it sound much less bad than the word curse might original intend to sound like. "Basically, there are a few things programmed into me that, when said, change me. They turn me into a little furry cat slash rabbit mix of a creature that Enoh seems to enjoy cuddling so who am I to complain? But I can't control the change, for the most part. It only happens when someone asks me to make myself at home. See, I can say it. But you can't."

He gave his friend a sly smile. "So don't."

He let out a soft laugh, and shrugged. "There are a few other things that change me, but that's the big one. There's some other stuff I'm sure I don't know about, since the person who programmed me wasn't the nicest lady. But, so far so good!"

Donny liked the victory pose Armel had made, and attempted to recreate it. A toddler imitating a toddler imitating a statue made for one odd little pose.

"You know what we need now! We need rations! Like CHIPS AND PIE. And marshmallows and.. and.. cheese." He thought up random foods that might be good for rations, which didn't in truth go well at all. Still, they all sounded good to Donny.

Pales listened to his friend as he explained things and nodded, "Good thing I didn't say that as soon as you guys came in then." He replied to the explination of the 'make yourself at home' phrase. It was strange, but not something that would cause him to concentrate on it over much. It was good information, but not stuff he planned to abuse.

"Well, hopefully nothing bad will happen anytime soon, right?" Pales could not help but be optimistic. It was something he brought himself up into being. It helped make bad situations seem very livable, and that is all he needed to really get him by.

Armel laughed as his pose was copied and then nodded agreeing to the idea of rations, "We 'ave pie and marshmallows for sure! Maybe chips too. Cheese, we have that and soda and candy.." Sure he acted and sometimes thought like a small adult but Adonis brought out the delightful junk-food junkie child in him that usually waited to come out until Adonis was on the scene.

Donny slid off his mount on the couch and toddled hurriedly to Armel, reaching out once he'd reached the boy and taking clumps of his shirt into his own chubby little hands. He stared at Armel with a wide eyed craze.

"Did.. did Armel say soda?"

.. Oh no.

"Of course not! I'm sure everything's going to work out fine. Now that you know, no worries; and now that I know about you, we're one step closer to each other. I think it works out great really." Nio nodded his head sharply, then stopped for a moment, and listened to the silence. He hadn't even reacted when he heard the crash, it was normal to hear things like that when Donny was around.

"It's quiet.."

But silence..

"Too quiet."

Silence worried him.

Armel blinked at the speed at which Adonis came at him and then grabbed upon his shirt. His eyes went wider than their normal narrowed gaze and he nodded, "Aye, all kinds!" He couldn't lie to his friend, besides he, too, wanted sugary carbonated goodness... Mmmm.

Pales nodded agreeing to Nio's statement, "Knowing is half the battle." He spoke nodding sagely, and then he too stopped raising an eyebrow. Where Nio was used to 'joyous' noise, Pales was used to brooding silence.

"It usually is quiet. Armel usually finds quiet ways to distract himself..." He offered cautiously, but the silence was a bit sudden from the noise of earlier and thus he too began to look vaguely worried, "Should we check on them?"

"Armel.. Armel.. Armel. Armel must bring Donny to these sodas, before our time runs out and our fortress is attacked!" Donny sounded like an overzealous fool, letting Armel go and hopping from foot to foot. "Where soda?!"

"Definitely." Nio murmured, standing to his feet. "We should probably go soon anyway, I wouldn't want to leave Enoh home alone for too long with those babies. As adorable as they are, they're quite a handful." Even this was said with loving affection as he spoke of his children.

Armel drew in a breath and nodded, "Aye, I agree. Follow me Donny! I will gladly lead ye to the frozen giant's lair where the soda-treasures are kept." The ram-horned boy said with an almost sage nod. This was fancy talk for 'follow me to the kitchen, bud!'

Without saying much else Armel went about leading Adonis to the kitchen, but chances were that adults with their damned long legs would interfere either on the way there, on the way back, or during the delicate operation in which sodas would be procured.

Pales also stood and chuckled, "Yes indeed. Most children tend to be handfuls in one way or another, no matter their number. More children there are the more they are able to gang up on you it seems, if they get it in their heads to team up anyways."

Donny followed Armel obediently, though he walked with hurried steps as he could almost feel as though his squishee was getting restless. In fact, they had made it around the corner of the kitchen just as Nio turned down the hall, heading towards the room he thought he had heard them in before.

"Absolutely true. It's especially true when Viddy teams up with that Tybalt. Sometimes I think he's such a bad.. influence.."

He had reached the room, and gaped at what he saw. An overturned couch, with a trophy jammed into it, and all sorts of pillow askew, yet no children.

"Oh.. Pales." He murmured guiltily. Somehow or other he already felt he knew Donny was behind this.

Armel and Adonis had just reached their objective, he made motions for Adonis to be quiet. Chances were if their fathers found their mess first and hadn't called for them yet they could still be successful! Though they'd have to act fast. Armel skittered across the tiled kitchen floor as quickly as he could, and soon he reached the fridge and yanked it open. Luckily for them the soda was in a reachable place, near the bottom. Easily accessable for little hands.

Which normally Pales didn't have to worry about such things, but it seems when Donny was thrown into the mix the ram-horned boy came up with a rebellious streak.

Pales chuckled, "Viddy is a nice girl though. I haven't met nor seen enough of Tybalt yet, but Armel seems to like him a bit since your wedding reception. Worries me slightly considering the circumstances.." He finally looked in the room and saw what Nio saw and Pales blinked.

"Oh my..Seems they found a game to play together.." Pales murmured with a nervous chuckle, "Wonder where they had gone off to?"

"Pales, I am so sorry." He moved to pluck the trophy out of the couch and put it on the desk, before setting the sofa right side up. "I'll fix this up before I get Donny, and we'll get out of your way. He's just.. he's in such a rebellious mood lately. I don't know what's gotten into him. I really am sorry."

Donny looked at the newly acquired soda, eyes glimmering with joy. "Oh oh, Donny want some pleaaaase~" He purred, putting his chin on Armel's shoulder and watching the soda retrieval intently.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 29, 2006 11:11 pm

Pales laughed lightly and shook his head, "I'll help fix it, and don't worry. It's fine. Sure this is a bit extreme, but Armel acts more like his age around Adonis so I am thankful for that much at least. They just tend to get a bit wild together. It's like they fuel each other somehow." He took this all well enough and even tried to help Nio pick things up no matter what was said, "I am not angry or upset at all."

Truly Pales was very good natured, "After all Vidya and Armel were crashing toy cars into the wall one day and I hardly twitched." The man gave Nio a small crooked grin.

Armel glanced over at the Adonis head that had perched itself on his shoulder, but he didn't mind at all. He actually tried to imagine how it would be if that would have been a more permanent arrangement.

..It'd be so. Cool.

"'Course ye'll get some, yer m'co-ruler." Armel murmured at Adonis while attempting to make a selection.

Finally, unsure of what to pick and assured that time was getting shorter by the second Armel simply grabbed two random sodas. One was purple colored and the other was red, "Got 'em!"

Donny reached out and tried to grab the purple one, reaching out to clasp it in his fingers and bring it to him. He fiddled with the tab, having a hard time of it, until suddenly a fizzing sound told him he had succeeded, and it was open.

"Hurray hurray!" He cheered excitedly, and started guzzling the drink.

If he wasn't breathing out of his nose, then he wasn't breathing.

"You're rather mellow about all this, I wish I could be so calm about it. Maybe I could learn a thing or two from you, Pales." Nio said with a wink as he put the last pillow in place. "But for now, let's find those two before they get into any worse trouble."
