Now, I'm libertarian on some issues, but gay marriage is not one of them. Why should we let one group change the rules of society? If we allow gay marriage, will churches who refuse to perform a gay marriage be protected from lawsuits? Plus if you're going to allow gay people to marry, why not let a brother and sister get married or a man and three women get married or a thirty year old and a twelve year old get married?
In states where gays can get married, schools teach about the gay lifestyle to their students starting as young as preschool. In those states, parents aren't allowed to opt-out their children. This is a violation of parental rights. Teaching children about social issues is the parents' job, not some teachers' union. A teacher's only purpose is to teach kids how to read, do math, and encourage them to do their best.
For the record, the gay marriage movement and the civil rights movement are not comparible. Unlike blacks during the civil rights movement, gays are not segregated. There aren't straight drinking fountains and gay drinking fountains or straight theaters and gay theaters or straight school and gay school and gays aren't forced to sit in the back of buses. Gays have never been slaves. They've never been taken from their land, forced into the cargo of ships, and turned into slaves.
I have no problem with civil unions. Once a gay couple enters a civil union, they have all the benefits of a married couple. But to change the definition of marriage that people have agreed on for decades is just drastic.
In summary, it's not an equality issue. It's one group trying to shove an agenda down our throats.
That's my story!

Did you hear about that photographer who refused to take pictures of a gay couple because it was against her religion and the gay couple sued her (and won)? That forever sealed the deal for me--no legalizing gay marriage until all homosexuals can learn to respect other people's beliefs and religions. talk2hand

No.
Why should anyone be allowed to discriminate against someone's religion?
It's God's word that gay people aren't allowed to be married.
(...and contrary to what everyone will try and have you believe, it's not hatred. God doesn't discriminate, he loves us all. )
I understand that because when two people are married they become one. The main reason for marriage is the family unit.
Which means, a MAN AND A WOMAN, because that is how humans reproduce.
Most gay people act like they're a separate "race" or something.
If they really wanted to be treated equal they wouldn't be all out there and pushy with it.
You don't see straight people running around shouting about their straightness from the rooftops. xd
Have some self respect and quit acting so damn tacky.
...and guess what, this is coming from someone who is technically gay herself.
But I don't go around preaching about it and demanding "respect" from people who don't owe me anything.

Why can't people just accept the common law if they're so damn determined to get married?
Same benefits as marriage, only you aren't shoving anything down anyone's throats.

If I was a straight guy or a bi/homosexual girl, I think I would've just fallen in love with you. xd
I'm an asexual girl. Now, we aces are the real minority. XDDDD

It's okay. xD
I'm currently a-sexual too.
I can't stand people enough right now to want any kind of intimate relationship right now. rofl

Well, what do you know... cool
Most asexuals I've met are liberal.

Heh, I couldn't agree more. rofl

What i don't understand is why people care so much on who someone marries. I'm straight and I can careless. Why should homosexual people be denied the right to marry when people in prison are allowed too? They committed crimes and these people haven't. Where is the fairness and democracy in that? Homophobic people need to stop being so idiotic and worry about their own lives instead of worrying who someone marries.

I don't want to start a full-out debate by explaining why I believe in gay marriage or the reasons I find it being illegal wrong and going against American and its constitution and blah, blah, blah. So I'll just say that I support the idea of gay marriage. Power to the people and the ones they love. Please keep in mind that this is coming from an extremely conservative person. 3nodding

I don't think it should be legal, but I really don't know much right now because I am a little hyper...

They can be together if they want, if they don't shove it in everyone's face. But it's not supposed to be called marriage.

They aren't shoving it into anyone's face. All they want is to have the ability to marry. Why do you all care whether they marry or not? It has nothing to do with you.

With an idea this basic, if they don't get it already they never will. That's what I meant when I said "I"m not gonna waste my time trying to teach a brick to float." In other words, let the bricks drown.

Exactly. These bricks need to learn to swim already. They are dragging the world under.

My whole thing on gay marriage is that if "love" is their argument then why not make marriage between two family members (i.e brother and sister) legal? How about letting a woman marry as many partners as she wants or allow a guy marry as many partners? How about bestiality?

In one way or another they are all forms of "love" between human beings.

My argument may be exaggerated a little but my point is that if you allow two people of the same gender to marry, then you're gonna have to allow everyone else marry who and what they want. So in the long run this effectively redefines marriage or rather erases the definition all together.

"Two consenting adult human beings"--I believe I just gave grounds for marriage that would still apply if we allowed gay marriage. Is that the best you can do?

Actually homosexuality is almost universal in the animal kingdom. I don't just mean in zoos either, I mean in nature. There's even a species of monkey where the majority of the males are bisexual. Look it up, I think you'll find it interesting.
