It had been a dangerous subject to broach, and Giselle, aware of the danger, relaxed slightly when Hero conceded to her. "Excellent." she said, gathering up her things. She had gotten all that she wanted to get done accomplished so far, and Hero was cooperating. Considering the tension that crackled between them every time they were thrust into a history project together, it was going well so far, and the kind of well that was in Giselle's favour.
This was the best kind of well.
Giselle nodded. "That suits me well. Please contact me when you have the list of research questions. Until then, I shall research Danton more thoroughly so I may be prepared." Giselle's idea of 'less thoroughly' was most peoples' idea of 'more thoroughly' where history was concerned, but when Hero was her partner, she took no chances. Not that she took chances otherwise. As such.
"Certainly, we may as well make use of all the time we are afforded." she stated, acquiescing and gathering her books to walk with Hero. As she got up, something broke, some invisible pressure that perhaps had to do with the project, the wall of books, or perhaps just Hero and Giselle being themselves together in confined space. There was not much more they could accomplish without the research questions, even in Giselle's fussy mind. "I believe we may have skipped formalities in our meeting. Are you well?"

"I can't complain," said Hero briskly, shouldering her bag. "You don't have to worry about formalities with me. I'm well; it's a new term; I'm adequate -- I have nothing to really annoy me."
She was gathering up the books, too, tucking them under one arm as she opened the door -- waiting for Giselle to go through first -- out into the hallway. "What about you? How's Miss Arma?"
Hero rarely referred to Elke as anything other than Miss Arma, the same as how when they had met she was Miss Petrova and nothing else. She was an absolute stickler for old-school manners, which was something that had also made them get along. Giselle did not mind old school.

"Elke is well," said Giselle simply, "I fear I will have to do something to make her take her studies more seriously though. She persists in falling asleep on her textbooks. As for myself, I'm middling well. Of course, there are some persistently bothersome distractions, but nothing I cannot handle."
Giselle did not take nonsense from anyone, however, Elke was a special exception. Partially because she had political ties in her family that could late be useful and partially because it was rather pleasing at times to have someone depend on her so much for history lessons, Elke was one of the few people who Giselle considered inferior to her but was still willing to regularly tolerate. Plus her steady chatter kept Giselle abreast of many developments at Barren Pines that she wouldn't have known about otherwise. Having someone social around to listen to had its uses, and as much as Elke made use of Giselle, Giselle made use of Elke.
Speaking of alliances.
"And how is Miss Thorne?" she enquired, using the title more because Miss Thorne was Hero's ally, and she had never heard Hero call her anything but than anything else.

"Miss Thorne is doing well," said Hero, shifting her books. Giselle was right about Aurelia; she was Hero's ally, and Hero herself sounded a little guarded but guardedly pleased to be asked about her 'secretary'. "As well as can be expected, anyway -- she's on top of things, she always is."
That seemed to be the exhausted point of conversation about Aurelia. Hero did not take nonsense from anyone, and Aurelia never gave it. She and Elke were as different as chalk and cheese, oil and water. Hero had made use of Aurelia Thorne since they had both been in onesies.
"You should get Miss Arma started on caffeinated drinks."

"That may work," she said neutrally, but she couldn't help but picture Elke prattling on about Avery and her social life and kittens, talking at a mile a minute until she passed out. It was not a risk Giselle was willing to take. Caffeine might work, but there was only so much rambling Giselle could take from a person, and if it backfired, the toll would be terrible indeed. "I intend to find a solution, at any rate."
As for Miss Thorne, she gave a curt nod. "Glad to hear it."
And that exhausted Giselle's conversational skills. She had no real prowess at speaking unless she was angry or passionate about something, she had no real ability to socialize unless she was given a topic and told to speak. She could have elaborate conversations in her head with dead historical figures, but when it came to flesh and blood people, she was about as charming and fresh as the corpses of the people she spent all her time studying.
Nevertheless, she gave it another stab, since it was Hero, and they were almost to class anyway.
"Elke has been passing on some terribly strange rumours as of late, but I suppose that gossip mills can run on anything."
She thought of the girl outside her window and bit her lip. It was real blood on the sheets, but it had to be a hoax. Some kind of hoax. Her neighbour was Frankie, it wasn't that farfetched. Ghosts weren't real, history might sometimes repeat itself, but it never came back to life.
