The door opened easily behind Janice, with not even a creak to indicate the age of the building - almost as if they were being mocked by the building itself. Vera heard the click of the door being turned, and backed out slowly, preceded by the other girl. Unwilling to break the silence, Vera turned to face her compantion.

Well? her arched eyebrow seemed to ask. She'd eased her second pencil back into her pocket once it became apparent that nothing further would be attacking, although she held the original in a white knuckled death grip, which would not prove conducive to throwing if that became neccesary.

With her and her companion out of the room, Janice glared one last time into the study area, half expecting the scene to dissolve away into the normal, quiet, undisturbed room before. The building chose to not mock them further, though, so after a moment of distrustful peering she quietly closed the door behind her.

No clicking, clattering, hissing or dripping happening out in the commons...

She raised a set of fingers to her chin and let her gaze fall to the side as she thought about what just happened - her demeanor said a few things to Vera, among them hell if I know, and I suddenly don't trust this place but I'm not letting that get in my way. Looking back at Vera, she gave a look that asked if she thought the same way.

Tenseness flowed out of Vera as soon as the door was closed. It did not mean safety, certainly - the thing had come from the ceiling, and she shot a nervous but determined glance upwards. No acid formed holes met her gaze, and she looked back down in time to catch Janice's motion.

Vera gave a weary half-shrug that could mean anything from this place is going to make me paranoid to sure, but now what are we supposed to do? Death grip loosened, Vera tucked her pencil gently behind an ear, taking care to place her disarrayed hair back into place as well.

Janice drew in a long breath - the type that wasn't quite a sigh, but was still a bit more pronounced than normal breathing. Ending it with a light shrug of her own, she looked as though she were simply saying, I guess we just have to deal with it.

They couldn't ignore what had happened. They couldn't assume what would happen in the future, either. So the girl with the darker hair figured they would just have to wait and see, and be prepared if things got any more dangerous.

And they had each noticed the other had the capacity for this.

Vera gave a firm but resigned nod in response. They had been warned; of what, neither could tell. But perhaps they would be prepared, in the future.

And perhaps...perhaps they'd be able to assist one another if things got much weirder. Reaching to pull her pencil down, Vera made as though to grab her notebook - which had been left in the room, along with her school copy of that dreadful book.

Well crap. Both were likely destroyed along with the table they'd been sitting on. Pulling a scrap of paper out from the pocket she'd returned a pencil to, she scribbled something on it, holding it out for Janice to take.

After taking a second to study the piece of paper, it was quickly, neatly torn in half - Janice took her pen and scribbled something of her own, and passed the other piece back to Vera.

And with another nod, they parted ways, sure they would run into each other again eventually.
