The fingers scrabbled mindlessly at the wood for a moment more before they tightened around the door frame, and the thing attached to the hand unexpectedly lurched into view. It wasn't a monster, but a man--a man who was practically jittering where he stood in his bloodstained clothes, cuts and bruises flecked over his body while he trembled and rocked back and forth to himself. He was grey and balding, eyes all but rolling in the back of his head while he trembled to himself.

"--coming they're coming they're coming, they'll get to you first and then they'll, and then they'll--" A finger was wildly stabbed at the two girls before he broke off with a dry, choked sob. He was stumbling even worse now, clearly injured, but his bleeding lips unexpectedly pulled back in a snarl as he took a step towards them.

"--no one will know, won't matter, you can go first, not me, not me, I don't deserve this, no one will notice, you deserve this--" His shaking hands extended, almost claw-like in preparation to... well, who knew?

Marit was looking for a projectile, something to chuck at the ne'er-do-well outside when the man sloughed into view. He looked horrible! For a moment she panicked, trying frantically to think back on those emergency health classes she had taken the year before. She clamored back to her feet and started his way, "Sir! Are you---?" She stopped, something was wrong. "Who's coming?" She fidgeted with nervous uncertainty, fingering the cellphone in her pocket. Should she call for help?

The bloody hand shot an accusing finger in their direction, she didn't know what to do. "Listen, I...I don't understand." She looked down at Kimmie for backup. Something, anything. He wasn't making any sense, he was talking to himself-to them, all at once and she just didn't understand. "Please-" She took a step backward as he took one forward, "L-let us call someone for you..."

It was...it was a man!? Oh, he looked so hurt? Kimmie's first instinct was to rush forwards and help him, but she stopped herself in her tracks when he suddenly began babbling, feeling a shiver run up her spine. She glanced sideways at Marit, caught her eye and nodded, as the cellphone was pulled out. They should call for help! He was injured!

Marit seemed to be able to form words but Kimmie couldn't, opening her mouth for a few moments before closing it again when no words formed. Kimmie shuffled backwards a few steps when he took open, glancing around for an escape route. They were on the second floor! They couldn't jump from the window! And now...now he was talking about them! About them 'going first'? Kimmie had a nasty idea she knew what that meant, but hoped beyond hope that he was actually talking about a nice game of Monopoly or something. ...Somehow, she doubted it.

"P-Please," she finally found her voice, albeit a clearly terrified one, "W-We'll call someone, a-and they can take you to the nurse."

The man vehemently was shaking his head at their feeble attempts to stave him off, spittle frothing at the corners of his lips as he took another step forward. "--won't matter, just die, just die!" And he lunged at them, stumbling with desperation.

The girls might have noticed the foul, inky tendrils beginning to snake from around the door frame, skirting across the carpet.

By this point, the man had smashed Kimmie to the ground, on top of her even as his fingers desperately scrabbled at her throat, like he was simply trying to claw it open. "JUST DIE, JUST DIE! I DON'T DESERVE IT, YOU SHOULD DIE INSTEAD!" He was screaming, eyes bulging. Kimmie might see something black shifting above his shoulder for a brief instant--and then his entire torso had been wrapped up. Caught in the ebony web, the man was shouting hoarsely for a moment, bucking and trying to free himself from the lethal embrace.

Unceremoniously, it only took one, hard jerk for the man to be sprawled out on his back. He wouldn't stop screaming even as he was hauled back out through the door, out of sight, save for his kicking, thrashing feet.

There was a loud and wet crunch.

The girls would see the feet stiffen, and then, fall slack. Slowly, they too, were pulled out of sight, and only the messy sounds of something crunching away would fill the void that the man's desperate cries had filled.

Marit might have noticed the tendrils thirty seconds ago. Maybe. But at that moment all she saw was the man on Kimmie. "KIMMIE!" She shrieked, frantically searching for a weapon. But there was no time! She kicked at him, balling fists against his back, desperately trying to free Kim. "LET HER GO! GET OFF GET OFF GET OFF!" She failed miserably in her attempts of liberation. He didn't even seem to feel her strikes.

She was about to kick him again when suddenly he jerked, blackness seeping all over him. Oh God, what was that?. She lurched backward, mouth covered with both hands. She should have called someone, called for help, but she couldn't even bring herself to move.

He was gone, just like that. Pulled outside by...something. She didn't know what, and at the moment she didn't care. She was just happy he was gone. She heaved a sigh of relief and turned her attention to Kim, "You ok--" Crunch. She paled. He slid out of view. Crunch. What was that? Suddenly she wished the crazed man was back. They were stuck in a room and something-blocking their only escape-was eating people.

He lunged towards them and Kimmie tried to step back, but her foot collided with the suitcase she'd left in the middle of the room as she fell over backwards with a cry, which soon turned to a loud scream when he was suddenly on top of her, his horrible, scabby fingers clawing at her throat, leaving bruises and grazes. Thank the LORD he didn't have sharp fingernails!

"GET OFF!" she shrieked, no longer frozen in fear as she kicked hard, trying to shove him off. But despite her well-toned muscles from her diving, he was a full-grown man, and she was only a teenage girl. He was too heavy for her to shove off despite her constant kicks and hits, the terrified girl screaming all the while. Her hands shot out, trying to find stuff to hit him with - a Disney's 'The Lion King' paperweight, her swimming goggles, a photo frame with a picture of her parents, she even tried the piece of the radiator that had broken off. But nothing! She was going to die!

And then suddenly, something grabbed him, and she was able to scramble to her feet, a scared sob breaking through though no tears fell - Kimmie didn't cry! She was shivering, though, as she backed herself up against the wall, as far away from the door as she could, shaking her head in response to Marit's question that she'd started, the shuddering only getting worse when there was a horrible crunch. No, she was not okay, especially not now she'd actually focussed on what had seemingly 'saved' her. Some horrible tentacles...she knew she never should've come back. Her parents had offered to transfer her, but she wanted to come back. She had friends here.

But she didn't want to die.

Hands involuntarily stretching out in Marit's direction, clearly wanting reassurance and for the two to be together, she choked out another sob before attempting to compose herself, shivers subsiding. "W-W-W-What should w-we do?"

The horrible crunching sounds would continue--at least until the terrified voices of the girls seemed to alert whatever the heck was lurking just outside. A brief flash of inky tendrils again made themselves known in front of the door, slithering about almost as though searching for small, slender ankles to grab. Then, slowly, they pulled back, and there was silence for a long time.

Then the floorboards creaked.

A step echoed hollowly in the hallway, and then another. Whatever it was... it had gotten up and was starting to move towards the door.

Marit's hands were shaking as she wrapped them around Kimmie. "I don't know! Ugh! I have no idea!" This was crazy, absolutely crazy. Where was everyone? How could they be stuck here, and no one else notice? There was a monster in the hall! She ran her fingers through her hair, squeezing her eyes closed. She was all for the adrenaline rush. But this was not in the program.

The floor moaned, and the thing moved. Marit rushed at the door, slamming it closed and clamoring with the lock. "Move the bed!" She had all her weight against the door, even though it was locked, like her little body could really stave off whatever it was outside. If they couldn't get out, it sure as hell wasn't getting in.

They were definitely tentacles. They had to be! But why the frick were there TENTACLES in the corridor!? There were no octopus or squid in the building! And certainly not any man-eating ones! Kimmie shuddered again, a small, quiet shout coming as the floorboards suddenly creaked. She watched Marit rush at the door, fumbling with the lock.

...The bed. Right. Kimmie moved over to the bed, before realizing the suitcase would be in the way - she'd have to move that first. She quickly dragged it to one side, before moving back to the bed, tugging it to get it away from the wall - it was heavy! She she jumped over it to push, since that was easier, trying to angle it so it barricaded the door.

As though sensing the intention, the door would bang and rattle violently as soon as it slammed shut, practically bulging off its hinges. Whatever it was, it wanted in, and it looked as though there was nothing to stop it from tearing the door down itself.

And then it stopped.

The girls would pause in their frantic barricade making, listening desperately for anything, anything at all. A furious banging would scare both of them out of their skins, the handle attempting to twist. "Girls! Girls, what are you doing in there, making all this racket? Open the door this instant!" The shrill woman's voice rang out angrily, the sound of a high heel tapping against the floor. A teacher?

The door was rattling, but Kimmie couldn't push the bed fast enough! And then Marit was by the door, in the way, so in her leaving there'd be a split second in which the door could burst open, letting whatever it was in! Kimmie's arms were shaking somewhat violently as she poised herself, ready to push fast as soon as Marit was out of the way.

"O-Oh three, 'kay? One, two..."

And then a shrill voice, definitely female. Kimmie paused, blinking, suddenly aware that the door had stopped banging, except for the single, furious one that she presumed also belonged to the voice. ...Did monsters have voices? ...Did monsters wear high heels, since that was exactly what she scraping sounded like. She glanced at Marit, eyes still wide before giving a small, shaky shrug, followed by a nod. She didn't want to get into trouble for disobeying a teacher.

Marit visibly flinched when the thing hit the door, fully expecting it to flatten her and the door at the same time. Kimmie realized their dilemma before Marit did. And Marit followed her lead, counting down in time to switch out. Then... Who was that?

She wasn't opening the door that easily. "We could ask you the same thing!" she called, hand held out halfway towards the lock. Kimmie seemed a whole lot more willing to accept that a teacher had vanquished the monster than Marit was. From what she saw, no teacher could stop that thing. "Where'd it go???" She called again, through the relative safety of the bedraggled door.

"Where did what go?" The woman snapped, and she was knocking impatiently on the door again. "You two have been making a horrible racket, and if you don't open this door, I'm going to have to call someone to help me get it unstuck! Are you doing something bad in there?"

Her indignation was quite clear. "You have till the count of three, and mark my words, girls, you won't like the consequences!" Honestly, what was with students these days?!

(Don't know if you just switched up order for that one post, if you want Kimmie to go again, I'll delete. xD)

Marit was nearly as indignant as the woman outside. "The Death-Kraken that was eating the old guy, duh!" she exclaimed, she couldn't believe this woman was so stupid as to not notice the blood and gore all over the floor out there, she couldn't believe this woman could scare that thing away! She looked to Kimmie for confirmation, but the other girl looked so much more compliant. She was suddenly annoyed.

"I'd rather have detention than be eaten, thanks!" Honestly, what could the woman do? If she was really a person at all. Marit didn't recognize the voice. "You can get the janitor to unlock the door, 'cuz I'm not!"

Kimmie trusted the teachers - if she couldn't trust the teachers, who could she trust? And besides, it had seemed like the creepy tentacles had disappeared before the teacher had appeared! Maybe it had disappeared when it saw someone approaching...but then did that mean it'd be back!? Kimmie gave a strangled kind of whining sound, understanding where Marit was coming from. But at the same time...she didn't want to get into trouble!

Reaching forwards she attempted to tug Marit away, although not pulling hard enough to actually remove her from the door. Marit could still hold the door closed, Kimmie just wanted to get closer to it so the teacher could hear her. "Who are you? Which teacher? We...we just got attacked by a monster!" Her voice stayed stable until she began talking about the monster, a scared sob breaking through before she composed herself again.
