I get the feeling that there's "supposed" to be a practical purpose behind it. But it really doesn't make any sense to me. First of all, it's not like having a a Facebook automatically means you're going to share EVERYTHING about yourself, even though I know that a LOT of people who have one do just that. If it's a security concern of some sort, it makes more sense to me to maybe trust the people who have the Facebooks to not post things they shouldn't?
If it's not about security of some sort, then I have no clue what the reason could be.

We've already had a couple top people kicked out of our degree just because of having one comment on their facebook and it wasn't even done by them it was one of their friends that left a message on the wall. Also, during all of our mock interviews we actually have to put up a lot of things that link the teachers to our internet lives. A lot of people have waaaaay too much on their computer to the point our teacher told them where they lived and worked just based on their pictures.

What kind of comments? I'm still a little confused about what they're afraid can happen...are people going to find you and kidnap you? Are you secretly in a program for ninja assassins?

No, but if I go on someone dangerous can find me. And what was said was "Hey I'm gonna get high tonight anyone want to join me?" Since they were affiliated with them they got kicked out, even if they didn't respond since it was on their wall (you have to remember employers usually just look at the front page and think it's your whole profile since usually they're older and don't keep up with technology) so they got kicked out for violation of having a face book.

...this sounds like a job for a secret identity. And better wall settings to keep people from posting on it. They should have a filter that lets you screen all of the things coming onto your wall before they actually go up there.

They don't unfortunately you have to do it yourself, and all programmers and developers do have to take somewhat of a secret identity just so they aren't victims of code theft and what not.

So you're saying that if I want to become a programmer, I'm going to have to get rid of my Facebook?

If you were in my school then you would have to. It varies from school to school, but most of the teachers here actually know the ins and outs of the industry. The most we're supposed to have is a linked-in account. So Gaia is my dirty little secret whee

Psh, like Gaia can get you into any trouble ninja And I haven't ever used LinkedIn. I've heard of it...in the context of this.
