"Popularity is an equal poison." She was speaking from her side of the fence and he was speaking from is. They had both been the science geek and the popular kid and the grass had always been greener on the other side for each of them. "Opinion one: Principle of the matter, it goes. Option two: My compromising terms. We can let him decide and have his fun but if I get one word about him turning into the bully because he thinks he's now cooler than the other kids and can push them around, I'm taking his opinion on it away."

He was being short with her...he had been not so cuddly lately and she didn't like it. "But it's good." Seeing as he didn't appreciate her icypop, she was going to and sucked on the end some, watching him toss the ball and be distant. Stupid twin, he wasn't allowed to do that. "I didn't tell. I asked if I could get it done too. You got yours, and I wanted mine done too. Now you have yours and I don't." What was he talking about, all about her? She didn't make it like that...she was just asking for equality. Huffing she got up and moved over to her side of the room, sitting on her own bed since he was going to be like that. "They're going to make you take it out anyway."

"I know that, but that's one of those lessons you have to learn for yourself. No amount of advice ever makes that one not need to be experienced." She swept around to the other counter and began grating the cheese that would top the penne to give it that final touch of flavor. "Agreed. But I don't think that's Thobias's personality, Xe. He's still finding himself but he doesn't have a cruel nature. I think he's gotten tired of being stepped on all the time and is finally choosing to speak up about it. But he's still a good boy at heart and he won't be able to inflict pain without hurting himself."

"My fangs don't hurt." It was a lie but he really wanted to be able to withstand it. "Right. It's all about you, Lici. Who said you get everything I do anyway? You're just mad because I had the guts to do it behind Mama and Daddy's back and you don't." Tossing the ball again and then sitting up and shrugging. "I can just put it right back in when I leave the house. The hole won't close overnight."

"Neither do I and I made a bully of myself the first chance I knew I could be when I was his age." Granted, he had issues and what not at that age too that made him more prone to such things, but now was not a time to be self diagnosing. "Either way, those are the terms. It makes him step out of line in an intentional ill way, and it goes." Shaking his head, "And we hope the further piercing and tattoo incidents come after they're eighteen."

"I wanted it before you." Frowning across the room at him, why was he being so mean? She was trying to make him feel better. Unfortunately no amount of her 'wishing' would seem able to fix his attitude. "I don't have to do things behind their back to get things I want. I get rewards." And he was going to continue to be bad and disagreeable apparently. Getting up she stuck her tongue out at him. "Buttface." And made her way downstairs to her parents. "Can I sleep with you tonight?" Addressing them both.

"I don't think you ever told me that story. Or is this the jackass personality that you played at being that first night we met? You know where you snapped at me because I didn't pronounce your name correctly. It's Xe-air-us?" Giving him a grin and then going back to grating. "Agreed. We'll give him the option and see how he responds. It's a good learning experience." And her attention slid to her daughter. "Why?"

"Next time you clean your room, see if Dad will take you to get your ears pierced. Besides, you aren't Miss Goody-Goody. You just don't have a mean enough brother to tell on you when you do stuff." He growled in his throat and was so irritated with her, he closed his eyes and wished her Ipod would break.

"I haven't. It was around the time my father died I guess. I mean I can look back at it now and see it was probably be trying to control what I could in the world around me, but still. Doesn't make it right. Being a bully just makes you look like an as-" Pausing his rather vulgar terminology at the appearance of their daughter and her question. "Why indeed."

"Because Toby is being a buttface and I don't want to sleep in the same room with a buttfa-" Gasping in surprise as her iPod that was snapped to the collar of her shirt suddenly and literally fizzled, smoked, and then burst apart, dying a horrible death and falling to the floor, tugging her earphones with it, leaving only it's clip behind on her shirt collar. For a few moments she merely stood there in horrible shock over the tragedy...before promptly turning on her heel and thundering upstairs to their room, tackling her brother and grabbing him by his shirt, more or less beating him up with his bed, or attempting to. Sure...she could fix it but she was mad at him right now.

And there went that comfort instinct she had in droves. She put down the grater and moved to wrap her arms around her husband's waist, kissing his chin. "You did the best you could, Xe. And you were a good kid. Your mother saw to that just like we will to Toby." Blinking at the turn of events and then frowning. "Walk, Lici!"

He wasn't ready for her and she took him off guard. Plus, she was stronger than he was which was something he had to deal with everyday of his life. "Ouch! Lici, get off!" Flailing wildly as he tried to get her to leave him alone, he lashed out with his own hands and slapped at her, hitting his fist into her mouth.

Sam looked at Xearus and the lightbulb went off. "Crap!" Thus it was more pounding footsteps on the stairs. "Stop it, you two! Right now."

"You broke my iPod!" The buttface, there was no reason for him to do that! Thus they were hitting and flailing at each other as their parents were on their way to no doubt break them up. But it they didn't need to as he got one good hit on her and she gave an outcry, half falling/failing out of the bed with her hands over her mouth, blood seeping from between her fingers of her cupped hands. Followed quickly by tears.

He smiled as she went into comfort mode and he inclined his head to nuzzle at her lightly before turning back to their daughter's explanation which was interrupted by technical failure and her running off. He realized just about the second his wife did what she was doing. That creepy thing those two did most likely. They came into the room just as Thobias was pushing Felicity off of him and she was apparently going to pay the consequences this time around. "I shouldn't even have to say it, you know you two aren't supposed to hit each other. You get hurt. Point and case." Moving over to his daughter to check out what the blood was about and pulling her hands away revealed a whole lot of blood and one sharp fang floating in it. "Well...her fang came out. The hard way unfortunately. Come on Felicity." Getting her up and directing her toward her mother. "Mom will get you cleaned up." Turning his attention back to his son then. "Time for a talk hm?"
PostPosted: Sun Nov 08, 2009 12:25 am

"Don't call me that! Besides, it was an accident!" He regretted both breaking the Ipod and where his fist had landed as pain exploded in his hand and he heard his sister crying. But he was in more trouble than she was...he wasn't supposed to hit girls. Ever. Even if his sister and every other girl on the planet was stronger than he was. Rubbing his swollen knuckles, he glanced into his father's face and quickly averted his eyes. "Is it one where you talk and I listen and then I get punished?"

Sam wrapped an arm around her daughter and ushered her into the bathroom, having her rinse until there was no more blood and then washing her face. "You shouldn't have gone after him, Felicity. Even if he did break your Ipod which I'm not saying is right either. And you shouldn't call your brother names. You two haven't been getting along lately. What's going on?"

"No. This is the one where you talk and then I talk and then we take turns again, make a joke, and then if you were old enough we'd have something alcoholic to drink to punctuate." Moving to his son's bed, he sat down on the edge of it beside him. "Come on now, what's all of this about? Is it time for rebelling already? I thought I'd have your wonderful teenage years to see that in."

Fangs were horrible things, as the one that wasn't loose enough to come out yet had cut her lip instead and now she looked funny on top of it all with only one fang. But she let her mother clean her up, sniffling the whole time. "He did it on purpose." And he knew how much she treasured that stupid little device. She shook her head to her mother's question, no they hadn't been. "He's just being so mean and calling me selfish and things. He just mopes and throws his stupid ball around."
PostPosted: Sun Nov 08, 2009 11:43 am

So maybe his father was actually going to listen to him instead of just assuming he knew what was going on. "I didn't mean to punch her in the face..." And he had cut and scraped up knuckles because of it. He guess he should count himself lucky her fang hadn't been embedded in his hand. "It's just not fair, Dad. And it doesn't matter what I do, I can't catch a break. My stupid sister is taller and stronger and older than me. I'm...awkward."

"And you can fix it." At least she figured Felicity could with her special little power. Sam wrapped her arms around her daughter and held her close, brushing her fingers through her hair gently. "Have you asked him why? You know your brother. He doesn't tell you outright when you hurt him but he shows you instead. Did you do something to upset him, even unintentionally?"

"Well she didn't need to be jumping on you either." Taking his son's hand and giving it a look over for a few seconds. Little ice and some blood would make that go away quick enough. So was that the root of all of this? The manly competition gene. "First off, 'it' is not very descriptive, though I get the sister part. You have to remember, I'm a twin too and Savina is older than me. By seven and a half minutes that she'll never me forget. Let me tell you, at point in growing up girls are always taller and stronger, and seem to have a lot of advantages over us men." Including his son in the category because yes he knew the boy was growing up. "And don't call her stupid. Frankly my boy, that's nature and yes it sucks. But they only are ahead of you for so long before you overtake them. They're still manipulative, but you can then pick them up and physically remove them. Now this can't all be about your sister is it?"

"But that's not the point! He broke it on purpose! I fix everything he asks me too and he has to be mean!" It just wasn't fair and he was being a buttface. She was happy to snuggle her face into her mother's shoulder and soothe herself with the woman's prescene and try to ignore the pain in her nouth. "I can't ever get to why. He gets too mean." It was just plain frustrating. "He won't even play with me at school, he says I'm not fair." Which she didn't understand at all. Another sniffle and she picked a more present matter. "He said I was making his stupid earring all about me. I was not. I've wanted them before him and he is bad and gets one so I think I can have mine too. He's just being mean." Another sniffle. "And now I look stupid!"
PostPosted: Sun Nov 08, 2009 3:05 pm

"It's not just her though. I'm smaller than everybody, Dad. All the other guys at the school are big and able to take care of themselves. I could too if Lici will let me, but she won't. And when she steps in like she always thinks she has to, I get laughed at. I didn't want the earring, but I knew I could shut a lot of them up if I got it and went to school like that. And it's already started happening which is why you can't take it out. I know I wasn't supposed to, but I just don't want to feel out of place anymore."

"I know." She continued rubbing at her daughter's back as she listened to her litany of complaints against her brother. "Not fair? Have you been quitting because you aren't winning again? You know how much that upsets him." Sam shook her head at the earring thing. "Just because he got them you thought it would be okay for you to have them too. That's what he meant by making it all about you." Ah preteens...they had issues for their issues. "Lici, you do not look stupid. Nobody loses both fangs at the same time, sweetheart. It's like human's and their two front teeth. Besides, your replacement fang will grow in in no time."

"Yeah you can blame me for that. I was pretty small still when I was your age. But the very next year I put on more inches that I ever thought I would. Call Calder men later bloomers if you will." Plopping a hand on his son's head he ruffled his hair come affectionately. "I would say you can outsmart any idiot picking on you but I know that being that smart kid isn't always the best solution either. Your sister is just trying to protect you but I tell you what, we'll talk to her and tell her to let you have your own battles to fight. No worries, when you're older you can pay her back by scaring off every boy that's trying to date her." Sighing lightly, "Earrings don't necessarily give you a place either. But your mother and I have decided to let you handle the earring thing yourself. You decide what you want to do with it, just don't do the wrong thing."

"No, I haven't. I can't even get him to play with me to even be able to do that." Frowning as she pulled back from her mother though, that was the point! "That doesn't make it about me." Sniffling again as her mother tried to soothe her on budding appearance complaints. "It still looks stupid. We have pictures next week and now I can't smile!" Of course this was more drama to her than it needed to be. Not only had he broken her iPod, he made her look stupid for her picture.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 08, 2009 9:41 pm

"I've tried that. She just gets mad at me and gets all huffy and stalks off. It doesn't stop her and then she gets mad when I get upset in school. I don't need a stupid girl protecting me. I'm a big boy and can do it myself. Besides...I'm not just a geek. I like sports, too." He was pleased with the decision to let him decide about his earring and he nodded. "I wanna keep it. Just for now. I'll probably take it out later or something."

"He must be upset about something then. I'll see if I can't figure it out and then we can work on fixing it, okay?" Sam sighed as her daughter continued with the theatrics. "Lici, you like being the center of attention and Toby is usually content to let you be. Sometimes he's not and this is just one of those times. It was his earring, his to tell about, his to show and not for you to jump in with what you wanted. And for your pictures, either your other fang will come loose in that time or we can always put a fake one in for picture day. But you're always beautiful."

"Yeah, but you're not us. Besides, she'll probably be avoiding you for a bit right now." Chuckling lightly, not a geek...sure. And Sam was no geek either because she liked baseball. But that was to keep to himself and he clapped his son on the back. "See where it gets you. Now, you have to go apologize to your sister for hitting her and she has to apologize to her for jumping you. Come on." Ushering the boy up.

"He didn't even want to tell you." This whole thing was making no sense and she was getting unhappier by the moment. She was going to have to find some string and a sturdy doorknob now because of him. Stupid brother. But rather than argue, as apparently it wasn't getting her anyway she sniffled again. "I need to get my sleeping bag." She was not sleeping in that room with buttface tonight and if her parents weren't going to let her sleep with them then she was camping in the living room with the dogs.
