Lee groaned a bit under her breath before hurrying into the kitchen and getting something to clean the girl's hand with. So disgusting... Finding little resistance from Lynn when she grabbed her hand and started wiping at it, she sighed with frustration, holding back the urge to just drop the small child off at someone else's home. Let them deal with it.
Lynn tugged at her arm a bit to get Lee to let go, but eventually just let the teenager clean her off, mumbling an answer to Rory's question. "What does you gots?" Her tummy rumbled a bit soon after she spoke, and the little girl frowned further.

"Well, let's gae hae a look, eh?" Rory said, getting up and holding a hand out to the little girl, helping her up and leading her to the kitchen. He got her to sit at the small table. "I can make you a sandwich or some soup. I think w' hae some stew from last night left I can heat up fae you."

Lynn kept her eyes on her lap, tears starting to stream down her face every time no one was speaking. She wanted her mom, but she wanted food, too. Which was more important to her, it wasn't clear. "Can I has a cheese sannich?"
Lee washed her hands off, though was relieved to hear the girl was easy enough to cook for. A cheese sandwich? Just cheese and bread? Even Lee could make that...

"You want me t' grill it fae you?" Rory asked, watching the poor kid. He wasn't too sure what he really could do for her, but his heart went out to her. He couldn't help thinking of his little sisters when looking at her. "I can prolly make you some french fries, too."

"Grill?" for a second she blinked up at him, as if the word were foreign to her. She quickly looked back into her lap, shrugging pathetically and staying quiet. French fries got a nod of approval, but there had yet to be a smile on Lynn's face.
Lee stood back and watched, not sure which was more interesting; the little girl, or Rory's patience with her. Resting her hands on the counter and leaning back, Lee avoided conversing with the child until absolutely necessary.

Rory smiled, patting the little girl's hair, and went to prepare a grilled cheese sandwich and some french fries up for the child. It really didn't take long at all, really. He quickly trotted to the den to retrieve the cookies and juice while the food cooked, setting the glass down on the table for the girl and putting the cookies on the counter. Plating the sandwich (that he'd cut in half) and french fries, he walked over to put it in front of Lynn. "You want some ketchup for the fries?"

Lynn shrugged again, apparently the gesture meaning "yes". She planned to wait until no one was watching her to start eating -- apparently it made her uncomfortable. Her eyes were getting puffy from all the crying she was doing, her nose even starting to run. Lee, having been watching from her spot in front of the counter, had noticed this, though was going to be the last person to clean up another dirty job unless she was instructed to.

Rory got the girl the bottle of ketchup and put a good-sized dollop on her plate. Using one of the napkins he'd gotten as well, he gently wiped at the girl's face, cleaning her up some. He was used to taking care of little kids. Walking over to Lee, he leaned back on the counter, too, folding his arms over his chest. "How d'you suppose she made it all th' way up here wi'out someone seein' her?"

Good, Rory was gone. The little girl started munching on her sandwich, apparently finding it worthy of her taste buds and not spitting it out. She continued on in silence, occasionally sneaking a glance at the big kids standing a few feet from her.
Lee looked over to Rory, sighing softly and shrugging. "I dunno... Maybe her mom's close by, then." She didn't know why an outsider would be wandering about the cottages, but doubted further that the girl managed her way here undetected by anyone, as easy to spot as she was when she had been wailing earlier.

"Outsiders wouldnae come this far. They wouldnae be allowed in th' camps. let alone past them an' up here," Rory said, watching the girl. He walked over to her, pulling a chair around for him to sit in. "Lynn, sweetie, d'you know where your mommy might be or what her name is?"

"Mama's name is mama. I doesn't know where she is, though," she answered quietly, setting the little bit she had left of her food down. She was full now anyway. "I hasn't seed her for a long time..." It wasn't clear if "a long time" meant ten minutes or a few hours, but it felt like years to Lynn.

"How long is 'a long time', sweetheart? An hour or so? Longer?" Rory asked softly. "How did you get t' wor home?" He held a napkin out to the kid to wipe her face now that she was done eating.

"We camed here affer breakfass. Den, Mama leggo of my hand, and I didn't see her affer that." Lynn whimpered a bit, wiping away more tears. Where had her mother run off to, anyway? She hadn't wandered from her mother, it was the other way around, it would seem. She shrugged at Rory's second question, not knowing what kind of answer he was looking for. How had she gotten here? She'd walked, of course.
Lee came closer, unconsciously staring at the little girl, not sure what Lynn was telling them. Had she been abandoned, or just misplaced?

Rory looked back at Lee, the same question in his eyes as well. Had this child's mother abandoned her? Didikai were well-known for taking in orphans, but he couldn't imagine anyone just leaving their child behind. He looked back at Lynn. "D'you remember where you saw her last? Wis she shoppin' at a stall or maybe wis at a show?"

"We... um... we was at the starty place. Mama went to get tickets, and den she was gone." She really didn't like this. She didn't know these people, and she just wanted to find her mom again. It had been overwhelming enough to walk through Farstep, searching all the tight spots possible in search of her mother, but now she was getting the feeling she'd never find the woman again.
Lee couldn't get herself to look at Rory, having a pretty good idea of what happened now. Either the mom abandoned her, or she was just an irresponsible parent, to leave the child alone for even a second in a bustling place like Farstep.
