He nods his head a bit. "Aye.. this is one of the flaws of Forum RPing. Tis not always easy to get alot done. It sometimes takes days or weeks to get a responce."

Mahayr
And yes, it is the story that is important, but wouldn't we rather they be well-written, well-expressed, with effort made to keep them interesting, compelling, and dynamic?

Vagabond = dark blue
Mahayr = green.

*he folds his arms infront of him and closes his eyes while nodding* Yes, yes... *he stops nodding and holds up one finger* However, not all people are so well writen or able to expess themselves at they need to. I myself suffer from this; I am constantly at a lack for words.

Hence, the need for opportunity to learn, observe, and improve. The only basic requirement is desire, imagination, and open-mindedness.

*he folds his arms again, tucking his hands into his sleeves and tilting his head forward to hide his face behind his straw hat* A lot of the time I simply cannot find the correct words to accurately portray whatever emotion or idea I happen to be feeling.

*smiles* Its funny, I am always tucking my hands into my sleeves like that... everyone finds themselves at a loss for words occassionally. We improve with time.

Fortunately... *he lifts his head to regian eye contact* I have a thesaurus (sp) *and a grin cracks across his face* I can usually think of synanims (sp) - so finding a suitable word takes only time...

I always advise a good thesaurus! And a dictionary. And English usage... hahaha. You are ahead of the... game.

Now... *he begins pacing slowly around the room, weaving around the bystandards* What you see here is my general RP style... and other than finding the right words, and spelling them correctly, my biggest problem is in fact parallelism. I have a tendancy to begin a sentence in paset tence, using -ed on my words but ending in presant participle (I believe is the term) using -ing on my words.

I like your style so far and still look forward to seeing you actually play somewhere that I may join you. If I see anything I find disjointed or inaccurate, I will let you know (in terms of tense and voice).

This is usually accurate and gramatically correct, except when I really get into what I'm writing and I forget to watch carefully I begin making mistakes. So I ask in advanced for you all to overlook such carlessness; and I thank you if you do. *steps up next to Mahayr, stopping beside her - shoulder to shoulder with his head tilted forward and his hands still folded into his sleeves*

... So as long as we all understand each other, what say we have some fun?

*Remains where she is, her own hands tucked in her own sleeves as she leans a tad more against his steady shoulder. Smiling up at him, she nods her understanding, her eyes twinkling with expectation and hope.*

Yes, My Lord... indeed.

I -always- overlook a great many things, seeing content, intent, and story development as far more important. One day I will post what my idea of excellent role-play is, but that does not mean I think less of anyone who isn't up to those standards.

I have played with all ages, and watched many grow and develope, and I do the best I can and am certainly not the best!

((This is my OOC indicator; anything I write behind double parenthases should be considers out of character. The above, while a good example of my style, is a horrible example of my character. The Vagabond has spoken more just then than he has spoken in the last month of his life put together. He is very silent, thus I rely mostly on his body language to portray his emotion and thoughts. ^^ ))

Yes, I understand OOC, and hope to keep it out of the RP threads as much as possible. I think I have already said my feelings about -that-!

She walks into the empty room. A faint smile tilting the right corner of her mouth as she whispers:
I suppose it would help if I could be here when there are others to actively converse with.
She places her hands behind her back, right hand over left, dipping her chin towards her chest and leaves the room quietly.

You, dear friend, are a quick study.

Yes, and waiting for others can be a problem. We learn to post in a manner that explains an absence and just move on...

We need to get going in here. I think Sqarr hasbeen busy all day with getting DragonHeart up. I need to take a look!

He pauses, "My lord?" he repeats with a curious tone, "That will not do... not at all. I am no lord nor noble to speak of... I am merely a vagabond, a drifter... a no man," he steps away from her, "I like to keep to myself..."

He turns his head and glances at fer again, "... I dislike the company of others..." The words rolled off his lips like a cloud of fog over the bank of a chilled river and he faced away from her again.

((As you can see, he likes his privacy. I think on some occation a small OOC tag in the RP thread is permisable. Escpecially if it sheds light on the currect situation or gives some sort of otherwise unknown character knowledge...))

He remains with his back to the room and appears to have his guard dropped, "As you can see, I some times post using quotations for my words rather than asterics for my actions. I don't change very often and it depends on the mood I'm in that day. But if I start posting one way I will keep doing so... I usually reserve this style for when my posts will be longer than usual..."

((Though if anyone were to attempt to touch him, he would instinctively dodge. If the act is aggreeive, he will likely counter attack before you realize he had moved.))

Oh, and Mahayr, I have a grammar question. Whenever I write the grammar check keeps telling me I'm making some sort of mistake that it can't correct. Something about voice but I don't remember the term. It usually appears when I say something like "...had been going..."

Vagabond
He pauses, "My lord?" he repeats with a curious tone, "That will not do... not at all. I am no lord nor noble to speak of... I am merely a vagabond, a drifter... a no man," he steps away from her, "I like to keep to myself..."

He turns his head and glances at fer again, "... I dislike the company of others..." The words rolled off his lips like a cloud of fog over the bank of a chilled river and he faced away from her again.

Standing her ground with some small effort, she smiles quietly as he talks, her eyes serene and her back straight. "You are a man... nobility is of no account...", she murmurs in reply to his objection, even as he continues.

Speaking softly to his back, her own words drift smoothly towards him, whether he will hear them or not. "And I live to serve. I will not impose my company on you or anyone else, ever. Be at some peace, you will not be pursued. Come... take tea with me. Sit. Give me a moment..."

((As you can see, he likes his privacy. I think on some occation a small OOC tag in the RP thread is permisable. Escpecially if it sheds light on the currect situation or gives some sort of otherwise unknown character knowledge...))

((And as I explained, I abhor it. I prefer to find things out as I really would. With time, experience, and conversation. No hints, no clues, no... cheating, if you will. *Smiles*))

She moves to her usual place, her furs near the fire and kneels there easily, folding her hands in her lap and keeping her attentions on the man. Inclining her head in silent acknowledgment, she understands him entirely, and will certainly have no problems keeping up, or deciphering even the most complicated of... anything.

"Certainly, My Lord."

((Though if anyone were to attempt to touch him, he would instinctively dodge. If the act is aggreeive, he will likely counter attack before you realize he had moved.))

((You do remind me of Sqarr...))

Oh, and Mahayr, I have a grammar question. Whenever I write the grammar check keeps telling me I'm making some sort of mistake that it can't correct. Something about voice but I don't remember the term. It usually appears when I say something like "...had been going..."

Please post something specific for me to see and I will see what I can do.

Come up to the Inn, open the door, look around, come in and sit near the window.
Mahayr-sama, I've tried to sit down and write it many times, but I just can't see it. sad
Quote:
When you role-play, do you feel what you are doing or are you detached?
I don't view myself as a role player yet. I seem to only use one-liners and can hardly find topics to speak of. But if I were to role play, I need to be attached to the character, feel what the character feels, etc. But that is what connects me to my charcter, not the personality, so if my character kicks you, sweatdrop it wasn't me..

I wonder if it all makes sense ^^;;;

Yes, it does, and do not be shy about one-liners. A lot of RP'ers start that way, learn the ropes, feel the moods and then improve, not that I am saying there is anything wrong with one-liners at all, but I think eventually you will find them not enough.

Its like reading a book, you will see what I mean... unless you already have in things you have seen us do already.

Start slow, like this...

She walks up to the Inn, opens the door and enters. Looking around to get her bearings and take note of the others, she moves to a seat near the window and sits down.

Or even something shorter, as long as it is a sentence, and if you do not even want to do sentences (yet), even less.

*She approaches the Inn, comes in and sits down.*

Feel comfortable with what you can do, and you will make your own progress, in your own way and time, that feels right for -you-.

Use of italics, astericks, and colour is to discern between an action and speech, although you can use just one or the other. It will be clear enough. Most of all, have a good time with it.

All I remember is something about an empty voice. I haven't written in such a long time and I have no idea where my old works are.

He still faced away, pondering her offer a moment. He made no movement away, but he made no move toward her either. He simply stood motionless and in silence while she did what she would.

Remaining as she is, she smiles another quiet smile, watching him with a relaxed and easy posture. Content to wait, she can only hope to gain his trust and respect in due course.

Pouring a small cup of tea for herself, she sips slowly, happy to wait for him to be ready. There is still a cup ready for him, should he decide to join her.

Crumpling into the corner of the room, she appears as a wilted rose. She whispers brokenly:
I have had a miserable V-Day, please forgive me if I don't not post for a while.
Blessings, Mahayr for your foresight, but now that the anger has subsided, I'm left hollow and raw. I will return, when the air has cleared of this overwhelming stench and my spirit has lifted past this gloom.
Curling into a tight ball, she fades, her image flickering like an old, worn movie played on an ancient television until, with a loud pop, she vanishes without a trace.

Looking over at her friend with troubled concern, her brows knit with worry. Twisting her fingers together, her posture becomes more stiff, as she grits her teeth to wait to hear from her and see her again.

Jerking slightly at the dreadful exit, her jaw clenches in empathy, sad for the woman, and helpless to do anything for her.

He remains motionless for a while longer, but after a moment he speaks, "She seems very troubled... Surely your companionship could be better spent with her."

He turns to face her, "Anyway, I won't be having tea, but if you want to speak with me, then speak."

Having already seen to her friend during his silent contemplations, she turns to look at him again and smiles once more, inclining her head slowly in acknowledgment.

"I have nothing to say at the moment, but please feel free to speak as you will, or to come again anytime."

"Then I have no attachments to remain... I bid oyu good day." He reaches up and with two fingers tips his straw hat forward before turning to leave.
