"I have a right rascal." Jada laughed, reaching out to stroke along the gold's spine. The gold gave a little purring noise, leaning into the soft hand and nosing along the thin white scar on one of her fingers with a croon.
Really, the big ones gave the best scratches, and the Girl always brought her pies and snacks. She couldn't help but wonder if she could train this Big One to bring her treats too, that would be even better! The gold saw one of the feathers that the new Big One dropped drifting away from the pot, and with a chirp she dropped off his arm to catch it, dropping it in the pot.
Was she trying to chastise the feather? Jada wondered, listening to the gold chirp and whistle at the feather. An intelligent eye glanced up at Kylar, and the gold exaggeratedly copied Jadamirei's motion of putting the feather in the pot, whistling at the Candidate. The girl laughed, setting a wet (yet clean) dish to the side. "I think you just got in trouble. Feathers all go in the pot. And thank you, Kylar. I was so happy when she hatched. I worried that she and Dolcissimo would get along though."
The young woman looked around, surprised to realise that the green hadn't come along with the gold flit. "Where is she?" she murmured. The slightest glimpse of a lime green lump near one of the ovens reassured her that the flit hadn't run off. She pointed out the green with a dripping hand, ignoring the way the gold whistled at her for getting water on the feathers in the pot. "That's Dolcissimo, by the way."
She could talk about her flits for hours, they were a real delight at times. She was so happy Tethis had given her the green's egg, and then to have found the gold too... it was a real wonder, and had taken a big step towards making the young woman more comfortable in the Weyr.

Hilena moved unsteadily in from the dining area, an ill-stacked plate tower held awkwardly in front of her. A rider had dumped a klah jug on top of the pile just as she was heading for the kitchens, and she could barely see around it. She watched the floor instead, trying to guess her way back to the washing area in the unfamiliar Weyr, and make sure she didn't trip over anything--
Like that pot there. Hilena tottered to a stop in front of the obstacle, and was moving to sidestep the object when something bright gold caught her peripheral vision. A firelizard in the kitchen! Oooh, this Weyr had *everything*!
She backtracked a few steps to give the little flit space, then carefully added her pile of dishes to the bench, using her whole body to push them away from the edge. They clattered ridiculously, and Hilena glanced back at the flit, hoping it wasn't easily frightened. Now that she could look properly, though, it became clear it was a tame one, and surrounded by other candidates - friendly if not yet familar faces. Smiling at them, she claimed a dishcloth and settled in to admire the miniature queen.

Laughing at the gold flitter's antics Foalen shook his head turning to the newcomer as she tottered in with her stack of dishes. He was going to offer help take some from her but she managed to get them safely settled on the counter before he could reach her.
"Hello there, its good to have another pair of hands. Don't be shy, there are plenty of dishes to go around. " Folen grinned at Hilena waving his hand at the large pile before he set his now clean pot down in the stack and took up another dirty dish and set to scrubbing it quickly but methodically. When it too was clean he took yet another setting a rhythm for himself.

He laughed again at the flit and apologized for his lapse in proper feather placement. Determined to someday have such a little companion, Kylar inspected his person and decided he was properly feather-free to start drying the dishes.
Smiling at the newcomer, he stepped daintily over to help her with her stack, but she didn't need his help and instead, smoothly turned the helping hand into a hand that took hers and brought it to his lips.
"Why thank you, ma'am. Please, do join us in this wonderfully exciting task," he said with a grin, then took up a drying cloth and began swiftly and efficiently drying the pots and plates.
"I've heard rumors one of the queens is due to rise soon. Anyone wanna bet on who it is?" he asked with an eye-brow waggle, grinning mischievously.

The new aproacher, female this time, got a smile. "Hello!" she was about to go help her when Folen and Kylar both moved over to the newcomer. Seeing that the girl was looking at the flit, she nudged the gold lightly with her toe. "Say hello, Alle. You have an admirer."
The gold looked up from where she was playing with the feather-filled pot, crooning a greeting to the other female and preening a bit. She moved over towards the big pile of plates that had been newly set up, attracted to the clattering noise it had made earlier. That noise had been fun. Maybe she could make the pile make it again? She tried to appear innocuous, innocent as she fluttered about all of the dishes. The bigjug on the top of the pile would make the best noise, and might not get her sent out of the kitchen if she made it make noise on the floor...
Jadamirei turned her attention back to the dirty plates and soap-filled sink, not thinking anything of the gold. Most of her antics were harmless, after all, and the gold had no history of interfering with the dishes. "I wouldn't call this task exciting." she said dryly. "But I can vouch for what Folen said about bubbly pies for anyone who helped. And, if you like, you can come to the story time I promised the Weyr children."
She frowned thoughtfully when Kylar mentioned the Queens rising. "I don't know, actually. I've never met either of the Junior Weyrwomen, all I've heard is rumors." And from the rumors she'd heard, it was a bit of a choice between a rock and a hard place.

When she could take her eyes from the firelizard, Hilena was surprised to realise that both boys had moved to assist her with her pile.
"Such gentlemen! Can it be the tales of dragonmen courtesy are true?" She cast a conspiratorial glance at the other girl, then turned back to the boys. "I am Hilena, and my hands are at your disposal." She smiled impishly at Kylar, before reclaiming said hand and setting to work on the washing.
The little gold flew right over to her bench, and Hilena gave an ooh of delight to find it so close. "She's yours? She's beautiful!" she whispered to Jadamirei, shades of admiration and jealousy in her tone. "I'd love to stay around for storytime. Thank you."
Her eyes on the flit and her ears on the rumour discussion, she barely noticed the work her hands were doing. Hilena had heard rumours, too, since arriving at the Weyr, of what a Queen's mating flight entailed. The thought of it so imminent was more thrilling than anything since the Search itself. She stared at Allegretto, and tried to imagine what the great Queens of the Weyr would be like to meet so close.
