Aoibheann laughed. She had found someone who was also clearly finding joy in splashing in the water, so she intensified the splashing. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had this much fun with another adult in all her seasons, and the thought deeply amused her, burying the soft pang that those she loved generally didn't play with her. Ahhh, well, she'd found someone, now, even if it was only brief.

It wasn't very long at all before both avian mares found themselves to be throughly soaked. When the splashing eventually slowed, the dark Airin looked over her wings to inspect the 'damage' to them. "Yeah... Somehow I don't think either of us will be flying for the next few hours," she said with a light shake of her head. Folding her currently much heavier water-logged wings down onto her back, she stepped out onto dry land to drip dry. "That was certainly a thorough bath." Without thinking much about the fact that she had company, Keela began the tedious process of preening her wings-- both to get out the excess water as well as to re-coat them with their natural oil.

Aoibheann nodded, still smiling brightly. "I doubted I'd be flying much of anywhere after my bath." She started the process of preening her feathers, though it was more difficult without a beak. She'd long considered it a sad flaw to an aririn bathing or swimming: preening with a muzzle was slow and klutzy at best. Glancing up, she noticed that Keela was using her beak, and she smiled, though a tad bit wistfully. "Looks like having a beak is a very useful thing to have when one is preening. A muzzle just isn't delicate enough to get down between the individual fibers so well."

Keela had to chuckle. "I should think not." She continued to preen a few more feathers, watching the other Airin's clumsy attempts at preening her own out of the corner of her eye. It was a painful process simply to watch. Feeling some pity for the other, she let out a gusty sigh and stepped over next to her. "No no no. Here, let me take over that for you," Keela quipped with an air of exasperation, quickly and efficiently setting to work on the other's wings. The raven mare paused on occasion to borrow some oil from her own tail before continuing on, not saying a word. Despite being wet, the feathers were definitely taking nice shape.

Aoibheann let the raven mare preen her with surprise and delight. Feeling that she should do something in return, she started socially grooming Keela, an act that was better done with a blunt muzzle than a sharp beak. She relaxed as the two preened and groomed each other, occasionally twitching an ear. Social grooming of any kind, including preening, was always an enjoyable and relaxing thing.

As Keela continued on with the preening, she couldn't help but wonder just how long it took this mare to get her wings into flight condition. She knew quite well how long it took her to do it on a regular basis, and preening with a beak was much faster and more efficient than without. The raven mare wasn't entirely sure what to think of the return grooming, so she chose to ignore it for the most part. She had never actually been 'groomed' before by another after all. The only reason she was even bothering to preen the other was to give the feathers some proper care for once (or so she told herself).

Finally, Aoibheann finished and could tell that her tail was finished. She twitched her tail, fluffing out the feathers again with the gesture. "Thank you very much," she said with a grin. "That felt wonderful."

"They needed it," she replied simply, putting a bit of space between her and the other mare again now that the preening was finished. While the other's company was rather 'interesting', Keela was not terribly comfortable with such close proximities. In fact, even such levels of familiarity weren't doing much for her. "I think I'll be off now. You probably need to get back to your family anyway, right?" They led entirely different lives, and it was probably best for it to remain that way. "Later." And with that the raven mare was off.
