She nodded, twisting the longer lock of hair around her finger as she thought. "I like winning them," said Tate, by way of explanation; "I like being the best." More than that, she liked having all eyes on her character - the attention she'd get on the gameplay circuit for weeks after was... well, exciting. There had been an article about her once on Gamespot...
This was not something she talked about, and she said, "What do you do, other than running?"

That, Dani could understand. For her part, if she competed in something, she played to win, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. For the first time since sitting down to talk to the other girl, Dani felt a real connection, and it made her smile grow.
"I understand that. Go big or go home, right?" Lifting an arm, the one furthest from Tatiana, she flexed it with a wink. "Me too."
The librarian was giving her a weird look, so she tucked her arm back to her side, sighing a little. Really, they were all stuck there, so why couldn't they enjoy themselves a little? Whatever.
"Not just running - exercise in general," she corrected, though not meanly. "And aside from that, I love, love, love climbing the rock wall in the activity center. Sometimes I make them change it up just for me, too."
She grinned, remembering her last encounter with the cute boy behind the counter. A little flirting really could go a long way if she needed it to.
Looking up at the ceiling, she added, "Ooooh, and of course, concerts. I love going to concerts."

Tate smiled. No, that really wasn't what she had meant. Go big or lose so well people were looking at you anyway was Tate's philosophy - even losses could make people pay attention to you.
She shrugged; the activity center was interesting enough, she guessed. Gym class had gone a few times during that one unit where they all learned rock climbing, and she hadn't found it to her taste. Of course, almost nothing physical was to her taste, so there you are.
"What kind of music do you like," asked Tate; not because she was interested, but because it was expected.

Dani opened her mouth to respond, expression lit at the topic, when a voice came over the loudspeakers again. She clamped her mouth shut, turning intently to stare at the box as though willing it to speak faster, and breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that they were free to go.
Immediately springing up, she offered her hand, all smiles. "Whew, I thought we were going to be stuck here forever. Here, let me help you up."
The thought of continuing the conversation was the farthest one from her mind; they were free to go. She might actually still be able to salvage her afternoon, even if it was only a quick jog back home, instead of around the park.
It looked like the rain was letting up, anyway.

She sighed and took Dani's hand. "Thanks. Sorry you got stuck here." Completely insincere, but the smile looked pleased enough. For the freedom, if for nothing else. Tate bent down to pick up her backpack, then shouldered it. "See you around?"
Without waiting for an answer, she booked it out of the library.
