What is this "running" you speak of? Fin

It's a nice day, and on Dani's casual jog around the park, she spots a boy firing up a laptop all by himself. Well, there's only one thing to do...

Dinner was kind of a sacred thing in the Rymner household.

They weren't a perfect family by any means, but the one thing the three could agree on was that dinner was something they shared, period. Since her parents were both executives, they were always home in time to cook a meal together, and it was so habitual to Dani that she never really considered any alternatives to their routine. When she was younger, she'd always wanted to help, all but climbing up her father's legs while he diced vegetables, or added flour to the gravy. More often than not, she ended up a mess, but as she'd grown she'd learned how to help in small ways. It was simply natural that when she was competent in the kitchen she'd be assigned duties.

In truth, Dani didn't mind. She was no exceptional cook - that was her father's area - but she followed directions well, and what she lacked in flair she made up for in enthusiasm. Most often she was relegated to washing and chopping veggies, or simple things, like buttering the garlic toast and setting the timer. Her father liked to say she got the grunt work, but then, so did her mother - for some reason, the Rymner women just weren't all that fantastic at the culinary arts.

Once she'd asked why, and her father had said simply that he learned from a very talented chef. It wasn't until she was older that she'd finally asked her mom, and had learned that he learned from his first wife, who went on to be something of a world-famous chef.

It made Dani a little bemused to think of her parents with, much less married, to anyone but each other. They were just such a good fit. Even though her dad was uptight and fussy, and her mother more on the wild side, they made up for one another's flaws and managed to have fun while they were doing it. Sure, they had their arguments, and she could remember more than once staring in awe as her mother's explosive temper filled the room, and her father's icy one chilled the air.

They tried not to fight in front of her, but sometimes, you just had to get it out. Dani understood, and also understood that they didn't love one another any less for it. It was probably because they loved each other so much that they were able to push each other's buttons to the extent that they did. The important part was, at the end of the fight, they always apologized to each other, and they always made up.

Speaking of making up, or rather, making out...

"Do you guys have to do that in front of me?"

Rolling her eyes when her parents didn't budge from their rather impressive lip-lock, she simply turned away, continuing to whip the sauce for their shrimp. Her had had said to keep going until it was "smooth and free of all those clumps you dearly love to leave behind," but it was going to take forever. And everything smelled so good.

Peering down into the bowl, she decided good enough was good enough and set it aside, padding over to the sink to rinse the dish. A covert glance to her parents saw that they were done smacking lips, though they remained just about attached at the hip, working in tandem.

Of course, her father was doing the complicated work, but the fact remained that they were cooking together. It was sweet.

"Okay, sauce is done."

Leaning over his daughter, Vincent glanced at the sauce, then nodded, an approving smile for his daughter. "It looks very good. Go wash up and we'll be ready to eat."

Pleased, Dani took off her apron and hung it on the farthest left peg, dancing her way to the bathroom. As she washed up, she surveyed her appearance, overall pleased by what she saw. She didn't look tired or drawn despite her rigorous exercise schedule, and her hair looked cute pulled into a side pony.

Dawdling a moment longer, she heard the familiar sound of the table being set and dashed back out.

She might've liked looking at herself, but there was food to be had.

Sailor Magellan & Sailor Pegasus

This time I'm bleeding. Fin

Magellan gets her first real experience with a youma, and it's nothing like she imagined. Though she walks away from the fight, she's got plenty of wounds to tend to, and she doesn't consider it a victory.

By the time she dragged herself home, she was bruised and bleeding in more places than she could count. She was also bone tired, and was hoping her parents were sleeping soundly, and not up rummaging around for something to drink. Her mother, especially, seemed to find herself in the kitchen at obscene hours, and the last thing Dani needed after the night she'd had was a lecture.

The porch like winked on, bathing the stoop in pale yellow light as she amde her way up. Though she was back in her civilian clothes, she was still a little nervous, and hoped none of the neighbors had any cause to be peeking around. Honestly, she was going to have to get better at this stealth thing.

Unlocking the door, she took a deep breath - as deep as her chest would allow, anyway, ow - and slipped inside.

And came face to face with her mother in her blue bathrobe. Oops.

Madelynn screamed, and Dani rushed forward, holding her arms out and viciously whispering, "Ssh, Mom, it's fine, just-"

"What's the matter?"

Rushing out of the bedroom, clad in only his boxers, she saw her father wield a lamp like it was a lethal weapon.

Great.

Great.

"Oh my God, Daniela." Pressing her hand to her chest, Madelynn closed her eyes. "You scared me. What are you doing outside so late?"

Her father flicked on the light, and she winced. Here it came.

"Daniela." Stalking over, Vincent placed a hand under her chin, gently turning her face upward. His expression was impassive as he looked her over, ran his thumb along the blood that traced down her chin from her split lip.

It was remarkable how calm he was when he asked, "What happened?"

Her mother joined him, eyes worried as she began to lift Dani's shirt, despite her protests, to assess the damage. More bruises, scrapes, and there was blood along her rips. Well, that was one of the side-effects of being hurled to the pavement.

There were a million things she could have said. A million. Lying to her parents, while not exactly foreign to her, had never seemed so detestable. This would be a big lie, and they would worry. She could already see how worried they were. But she couldn't tell them the truth, no way.

So, closing her eyes, she began to speak quietly. "I let Tick and Tock out to go potty. Tick didn't come back, so I went looking for him, and I got attacked. You know, by one of those people in the news."

"A senshi?" Outrage filled her mother's voice, and she rounded on her husband, saying furiously, "We are calling the cops. Right now."

It went against everything inside of her to agree - senshi weren't the bad guys, she was a senshi! - but Dani merely stood there, panic filling her expression. "No, no, come on. I'm okay, I don't want to deal with the cops tonight. I just want to go to bed."

Massaging his temple, her father ordered, "Go into the bathroom. Let your mother clean your wounds."

Her eyes filled, a manipulation tactic that was low and underhanded, but one that often worked. That aside, she hurt enough that it wasn't hard to summon the beginnings of tears. "Dad, please. I just want to go to bed. It's over now, someone rescued me. A senshi rescued me, a good one."

"Go to the bathroom. Now." She knew better than to argue with that tone, but Dani remained still, eyes pleading with her father.

"Dad. The senshi aren't all bad. Nothing is all bad, right?" Bringing her hand up, she touched the edge of the bruise ringing her eye, wincing a bit. "The important thing is I'm okay, right? I just want to sleep."

Wrapping her arms around her daughter, Madelynn sighed, looked at her husband over the top of her head. "Vincent, she's right. I'll clean her up and she can sleep. We'll talk about it more in the morning."

It was clear he didn't agree, but against the combined forces of his wife and daughter, Vincent relented. Dani allowed herself to be led away, hoping that her mother wouldn't fuss too long, but also know that she wouldn't be able to help herself.

She wasn't looking forward to the next day. She'd have a lot more explaining to do.
