Ow. You can laugh at me. I fell out of bed and sprained my wrist after a flight. The blue rider spent a few minutes too busy laughing to help me get dressed and down to the healers. Still, no real harm done, just bruised pride and off duty for a couple of sevendays... A nice boy came to wash Raith for me; Panata, the lad who got mauled - twice - at the last hatching. We had a bit of a misunderstanding... Basically I thought he was saying he could only Impress a green because everything else was too good for him. I got so angry so quickly... I just can’t help being defensive of greens, so many people overlook us, think that bigger dragons are better dragons. Maybe I am too defensive though, I managed to make the poor boy cry for the love of shells.

Oh, we made up, and I plan to keep an eye on him as best I can now but... It’s just such a huge sore spot, I suppose I worry a bit about what might happen if somebody I like ends up with a big dragon. Both for him and for Veyes I hope for a green, or perhaps a blue. I would really rather nobody I get on with Impressed a ‘higher’ dragon. I don’t want them to be ‘better’ than me, that’s how the world will see them. He got a brown, he got a green, so obviously the first boy is more worthy so we shall give him more marks and a bigger chance at rank. It sticks in my throat. I despise it. I hope my friends among the candidates get greens or blues. I don’t know what I’d do if they don’t.

They came back! My boys! They're all fine and happy and healthy and they came back! I can't seem to stop grinning like a fool; they're investigating the weyr at the moment, trying to decide where they'll sleep. I think I'll get them a basket and put it in the corner that I'm not using for anything much right now. Oh, they'll leap out of it the moment I go to bed, I know, but it'll be a place for them to be during the day, and I might be able to persuade them over there when I have Company, you know?

Oh great, now River is trying to play with my quill, please excuse the awful writing! Shards, I have missed these pests. They annoy me, and pester me, and sometimes they get me into trouble but they are wonderful, affectionate things... Must see if I can get an egg for Veyes, they're even more common here than they were back at Ista, the girl who Impressed the latest gold to hatch has five, you know. I'd like one more too actually, a nice little green. still, I can think about that after I find a little friend for Veyes.

In other news, the Jr. weyrwoman of Telgar visited yesterday. Odd. If there's one thing I've learned since moving here, it's that we're not the best of friends with Telgar, stuck up hidebound fools that they are. Don't even like men who like men, girls on fighting dragons is a huge no-no to them... Still, perhaps this is a positive thing? Life's always easier when you don't have too many enemies. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see...

Shards. Plague. The whole Weyr is in uproar, and it looks like the weyrleader might die. Shame, he's not bad for a bronze rider. The weyrlings have all been shipped off to a place called Ghenza, I can't say I'd ever heard of it before but apparently it was founded back when the plague first started. Even after everything calmed down, they remained closed off from the rest of Pern.

Along with the weyrlings, quite a few candidates seem to be taking the chance to escape. I can't say I blame them, but I don't plan to join in the move; they don't allow firelizards, and I couldn't leave mine behind again... Besides, some of us have to stick it out here. If I get sick... well, there's nothing I can do really, is there? It's a frightening thought but there's nothing to stop it happening, nothing I can do to influence my situation... Unless I leave.

No. I'm staying here, Veyes is as well and I ought to keep an eye on him if nothing else. I suppose all I can really do is hope. I don't like feeling so helpless, but there's nothing I can do. I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
