Oh, look. An opportunity! He'd tuned out most of Tobernite's bitching, wondering. Weren't little boys supposed to be into this sort of s**t? Had he not hit puberty yet? And then Mister Hobo made himself known with excellent timing indeed, and Obsidian was sauntering idly down the alleyway towards the other.

"Sorry, sir. Lucky for you, I know just the thing to make sure you don't have any more trouble sleeping, how's that sound?" He offered, almost cheerful before he reached down to snatch the old man by his collar, and bodily hauled him up. It was hard to remember if it'd ever disturbed him; the limbs slapping feebly against his torso, the strained, wheezed breathing of someone in true terror, and, best and worst of all, the way their eyes looked.

Obsidian didn't remember when the last time had been that he'd ever hesitated to kill someone, and it crossed his mind thoughtfully even as his hand forced itself through the man's chest. Fingers tightening around the star seed he could feel, the lieutenant effortlessly plucked it from the old man's chest and watched the light dim from his eyes before he let go.

The body crumpled against the street, and he rolled the seed through his fingers mindlessly for a moment before he held it up for Tobernite to see.

"Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Viola. A star seed."

Had Obsidian not clearly explained and narrated the entire procedure, Torbernite most likely would not have clued in at what he was now looking at in the palm of the older man's hand.

And then on the body on the ground. He was pretty sure as it was not breathing that this poor man - corpse - whatever would never quite get up again.

A sickening feeling rose within him, like someone who was watching a bad movie on the sidelines, waiting for the villain to finally kill off the poor tortured protagonist from the shadows. Oh wait, the villain was there. Standing right in front of him.

Do something about it! His mind all but screamed, mental eye flashing from the starseed, to the corpse, starseed, corpse. A ********, dead, corpse.

"Oh," was practically the only thing he managed to get out, and though it was dark, it was hard to miss how spooked and white his face had become. He tried to sort out the problem, maybe Obsidian hadn't done what he thought he did and...

No. You just saw this man KILL someone.

The conclusion produced an immediate aftereffect. He felt the content of his lunch go up, acid burning his throat, and he gagged, choking it down, out of pure fear and horror of the situation. This man was more dangerous than the usual Negaverse crew (or from what he had seen) and though the thought of heroics might have entertained this poor teenage boy, his second thought was that he needed out right now. Like any good thief, they never did the dirty job: they were the anti-heroes of crime rings.

Oh god his mouth tasted vile. The-the thing was still.. Calm down Toby, one problem at a time. He licked his dry lips ever so nervously hands all but shaking. "So..... that's how you do it. Ah... thank you for your, um, help. Yeah."

And that was it. No ifs buts and where's or what. Push came to shove he had to guarantee his safety first, poor victim or not, he did NOT feel like fighting for their dead - or undead - lives.

Obsidian seemed unaware of the horror that Tobernite was trying to struggle through, absently admiring the star seed in his hand as though it was little more than some pretty trinket. "See? Sleeping now. He'll stay in a coma for a few days before..." Fingers sliced quickly across his throat, and he had the audacity to look amused.

"And that's all there is to it." He continued, oblivious to how shaken the kid was and his stammerings. "I'll take this, you get to play clean up.' He jerked his head towards the prone body with a grin before he stepped back out of the alley, strutting past the boy without a backwards glance. It got easier, after a while--it had to.

After all, what was more important? Your life, or theirs? Obsidian had no trouble making the selfish choice anymore, and even whistled to himself as he slipped down the darkened street, tossing the star seed up and down in the air as though it was an amusing plaything, rather than the lifeforce of what had once been an old, innocent man.

"Until next time... if you live that long." His laugh echoed down the street before the lieutenant was gone.

Disbelieving, Torbernite walked towards the body. It felt as if a spotlight had been placed on him, and if he didn't hurry up and get the ******** out of here the police would come and arrest him on the spot. ********, ********, ******** <********>.

But he had to know. Kneeling so he was close, ever so close, to the body, he stared at an attempted even level at their chest. Sure enough, the seemingly 'corpse' was making a strange, nearly impossible-to-tell attempt at breathing. They were still alive.

Oh god, where was Obsidian?! Torbernite whiled around, looking left and right for the strange, deranged man. Only the echo of his mocking laughter remained, still burning in his ears.

Said echo grew louder, into a strange whooshing sound, as a second wave of nausea hit him. He was going to watch this man die.

He was going to watch this man die.
