The mare stalked around silently until she found a satisfactory spot behind the large feline. In a swift move she pounced, and the battle commenced.

The two went at it for several minutes, each making viscous swipes and lunges at the other. The raven mare used her beak to peck out one of it's eyes earlier on, partially blinding it and giving her a huge advantage. Twice the cat tried to make an escape into the nearby foliage, but Keela would take the opportunity to rip into it's back with her talons then, eliciting a loud cry from the other predator and renewing the battle. Eventually it lost too much blood and became too weak to fight back properly, at which point she ripped into it's neck with her beak and severed it's spinal cord to kill it.

After the battle was over, Keela took a moment to recover herself, out of breath. She licked a couple of her wounds gingerly (she had not gone unscathed) before glancing over at where she had last left the filly. It would not have surprised her if the young one had fled during the course of the battle.

Jasmine gasped when Keela pounced. She moved so swiftly and powerfully. She watched the battle, body shaking the entire time. That poor cat!
When the battle ended, Jasmine was found with her eyes covered by her hooves. She didn't understand why she was so upset. It was food for the adult, like the rabbit was for her. Still, she shook, rounded ears flat against her head.

Keela watched the filly silently for a moment, taking in the reaction. Well, she didn't flee, but she may as well have. With a soft snort she lowered her head back down to the dead cat to begin eating. "If you don't want any of this then you are welcome to either your rabbit or what this thing was eating previously," she said casually, gesturing vaguely to the other nearby corpse with a wing before starting her own meal. If the foal had been marred by the sight then that was probably a good thing. At least she might not wander of any more like this. Besides, it wasn't as if the raven mare was unused to being feared...

Jasmine lifted one hoof, looking up at Keela with large eyes. She didn't want to go... but she didn't want to eat that cat. She curled up under a bush with wide leaves, chewing half-heartedly on her rabbit. Keela had said she'd take her home, and Jasmine suddenly didn't want to go home alone. If she could get to the base of the mountain, she'd be fine.

It was a rather silent meal to say the least. Most everything else in the area had fled from the ruckus created by their battle, so the two Kirin were completely alone as they ate. Keela didn't look up at the filly again until after she had had her fill of meat. "I suppose I had better be getting you home now she said calmly, only briefly glancing at the filly that was hiding in the foliage before starting off towards the mountains again. "Your mother will be worried if she discovers you missing."

Jasmine finished her rabbit, though it seemed unsettled in her stomach. She glanced at the cat's carcass, shivered and turned to hurry after the adult. She was unusually quiet for most of the rest of the trip, waiting for her courage to return.
"How often do you eat those things?" She asked. "Would you eat me if you could?" A hint of accusation hid in her voice, but she wasn't brave enough at the moment to say so boldly her thoughts.

Although it was faint, the raven mare was still able to pick up on the filly's accusatory tone. "Young one, if I had wanted to eat you then I would have killed you and not that rabbit," she pointed out. "No, I do not eat of my own kind. As far as how often I take on large cats, it just depends on the timing of things and what I find. My diet is very much varied." This was not at all an exaggeration either, for Keela had dined on anything from insects and berries to a rotting grizzly bear corpse that she found once. So long as it was neither green nor Kirin.

Jasmine flipped her ears back once again. She shouldn't have tried acusing the adult of such a thing. Eating your own kind...
She followed thoughtfully, looking up at the strange kirin suddenly. "What's your name?" This female was teaching her things, and she didn't even know a name. She wasn't about to try eating one of the large cats, but she had learned other things.

Golden eyes glanced back at the filly, once again seeming to consider her thoughtfully. Finally, she decided to answer her. "My name is Keela." The raven mare turned her attention forward again as they walked, looking about for any signs of another Kirin nearby. They had reach the base of the mountain by this point, so the cave in which she stayed shouldn't be too far off. "Do you see your home nearby?" She'd need to find a place to sleep for herself later on, but it would most likely be far from here. The mare preferred to sleep in more secluded areas in general.

"Keela. That's very nice." Jasmine said with a nod. She waited for the same question to be sent to her, and when it didn't come, hung her ears in disappointment. Keela wasn't very social... Maybe she would just be a some-what friend, like mother had?
Reaching the base, Jasmine bounced forward. "Yes! It's up- er, there, somewhere, around here." Her voice trailed off. Mother would certainly not approve of her telling a stranger where exactly their home was. This was probably bad enough.
"Thank you, Keela. For walking me home." She looked up bashfully. Her adventure had been more than she had anticipated. "Maybe... We'll meet again, someday?" A flicker of hope cradled her voice, though she was unsure why she wanted to see someone who killed the big cats again.

Keela quirked a brow at the way the filly had trailed off, wondering whether she did indeed see her home or not. No matter, they were close enough regardless that finding it shouldn't be much of a problem. At the last question, the raven mare almost seemed to smirk. "Sure, kid. And if we do I'll get to see if your hunting skills have improved any." She stretched out a wing to lightly pat the other atop of the head with. "See ya around then."

If Keela's face changed at all, Jasmine was unable to pinpoint what it was, though something seemed to happen. "Oh, they will! I'll make sure they improve!" She said, giggling when Keela patted her with a wing. Affection! A friendly gesture! Friend! "O-okay! See you!" With that the foal skipped on up the mountain, taking the long way as mother insisted for home safety, hoping her parents wouldn't be too mad for her staying out so late, and also, with many new thoughts on her mind.
