Family:
Father: John Lupin was good to his family, but he was a throughly normal person. A half-blood wizard working at the Ministry in the Law Enforcement department. He'd been sorted into Gryffindor during his years at Hogwarts for his outspokenness and his way of speaking his opinions in ways others would hear them (A.K.A. Never backing down from a fight). He was very biased against werewolves, causing him to pick a fight with exactly the wrong person: Fenrir Greyback. Greyback gave him a few chances, knowing that hurting a Ministry employee wouldn't do any good, especially now when werewolves were being shunted to the 'Beast' department after some time in the 'Being'.
One night, Remus's mother wasn't home and he saw his father arguing profusely with a large, grim stranger outside. Out of concern and confusion, he walked out, pulling at his father's arm to go inside.
"Not now - get back inside," he said to the determined six-year-old, before being interrupted with, "Cute kid. Best lock your doors," said Greyback. With that, John led Remus into the house, and told him he wasn't to go out at night anymore.
The next month, after what John refused to label anything but 'The Accident' occurred, he left with no explanation, and wasn't heard from in the family again.
Mother: Remus's mother, Melinda Lupin, was a muggle. She grew up in a household where fairy-tales, magic, and imagination was strongly encouraged. As odd as it may sound, it came as no surprise to Melinda when her boyfriend at the time gave her a perfect haircut at the flick of a wand. She'd always known there was more out there than fairy-tales and fantasy, she'd known that her prince charming would come, and she'd get whisked away into her romantic vision of the magical world. She got what she expected. What she didn't expect, was witnessing the dark side of magic.
She begged John to stop talking to the man, however little she knew of what was going on. All she knew, was that no good could come of his lingering around their happy home, and that Remus was starting to notice things as well. He didn't listen, and things happened so fast, Melinda tried to erase it from her memory. It was like Cinderella in reverse. Everything started out so good, and went from good to perfect. In one night, not being able to protect her son and convincing her husband to stay after witnessing what their son became, everything was ruined and taken from her.
Since this time, Melinda's shut down somewhat. She's become distant and introverted, leaving the house and herself filthier and filthier, and getting more into her books again, knowing that's the only place happy endings really do happen. She loves Remus, but the two haven't exactly had the closest relationship.
Siblings: Remus almost had a brother, but lost him due to a miscarriage.
History: As a child, Remus only read books after much persuasion from his mother. He hated to stay indoors, read, anything, much rather being outside morning, noon and night. He loved to camp, run, play with just about any of the kids in his neighborhood. What's more was that he was perceptive. John and Melinda couldn't pull anything when he was around because he noticed just about everything. At six years old when 'The Accident' occurred, these things just about went away. Every time he asked 'Where's daddy?' his mother became emotional. Deciding it best not to ask questions, he did what his mother did and read books. He read books just about every minute of the day right up to the very moment he received his Hogwarts acceptation letter.
He was thrilled to be leaving the neighborhood where he never fit in, thrilled to get to do magic, and thrilled to know that his mother could still be part of the world she'd grown attached to. When he arrived at the train station, the crowds of children was intimidating. At least until he ran into another group of students in a compartment then, it was just downright terrifying. He hadn't known what to say, just stood there dumbfounded for a moment, before introducing himself and sitting down. Thankfully, the three he'd walked in on turned out to be his friends for life.
At the end of his first year however, he feared he'd lose them. When they'd asked to talk to him, and he complied, James began beating around the bush. That was when Remus REALLY knew something was up - James never did that. When Sirius interrupted him abruptly with, "We know you're a werewolf," Remus paled considerably. The room might have dropped thirty degrees. At that moment, he was just about ready to jump on the next train home, or under it. Dumbledore had told him that it was important that nobody else know. Remus had found out on his own, that Dumbledore could lose his job, his titles, and be punished by the Ministry, and that Remus himself could too. "But we don't care, in fact, we want to help," James had said. Remus thought momentarily he'd heard wrong, but from the looks on their faces, he could tell they were genuine.
In his third year, the three proceeded to become animagi, in order to keep him company on full moons. They'd found that Peter in his rat form was small enough to run between the branches on the Whomping Willow and press on the knot to freeze it. Sirius and James were both large enough to keep Remus restrained when he got out of hand, so later that year, they began taking him out of the Shrieking Shack at night and into Hogsmeade.
In fifth year, Remus had found out Sirius told Severus Snape how to get into the Shrieking Shack. If it weren't for James, Remus would've killed him. It took Remus a while to trust Sirius after that, and plenty of talkings-to, but eventually he did come around once Sirius apologized.
Upon graduating Hogwarts, Remus found that the world was far different and colder than even he'd expected. People recognized his scars for what they were and were immediately biased against him. People he didn't know were avoiding him on the street and confronting him for just being there.
Still, he and his friends joined the Order of the Pheonix where James, Lily, Peter and Sirius trained as Aurors, Remus being kicked out of training due to his condition. Once they were informed that there was a traitor among them, hands pointed to Remus. People had already mistrusted him, and this just became another reason to. This gave Peter Pettigrew an open shot with Voldemort, everyone being too preoccupied with Remus.
Then James and Lily were murdered, and Sirius Black was arrested for passing information on them, and the brutal slaughter of Peter Pettigrew. Seeing no reason to go on after this, in a world where his friends were absent and nobody trusted him, Remus went Underground with the other werewolves, and joined Fenrir Greyback for three years. Upon leaving on Minerva McGonagall's reasoning, he rejoined the Order of the Pheonix. He laid low, spying for them and studying for them until a woman named Delores Umbridge passed a decree making it virtually impossible for him to get a job. Starving and homeless, he went to Dumbledore who offered him a position to work at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He took it happily and worked there for a year.
After the school year was almost over, Severus Snape outted him for being a werewolf and told the students. The information spread like wildfire. He left quickly, unable to stay, and went back Underground with Fenrir Greyback only this time to spy for the Order of the Pheonix.
Sirius Black was found not to have killed Peter Pettigrew, but Pettigrew staging his own death. Having a friend back gave Remus infinite more hope. The year after he came out of the werewolf colony, he lived with Sirius Black in hiding until Sirius was murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange.
Remus Lupin married Nymphadora Tonks-Lupin, an Auror and Sirius Black's niece and had a boy named Theodore Remus Lupin, a metamorphmagus half-werewolf.
After having Teddy, Remus was murdered by Antonin Dolohov, a loyal Russian Death Eater by using the Sectumsempra and Argentarius curses.
