Lessons! Nachith loved lessons! Not for the lessons themselves, though - he wasn't here to learn! He was here to enjoy the view. He had Redfith, and Awunrayth, and Regedth, and most importantly Lofrewth to keep an eye on. Lessons were valuable green-watching time...he even watched Deprith, but only to keep tabs on her so he could stay as far away as possible.
Luckily for the easily-distracted blue, lessons so far didn't require all that much attention from him. It was more important that B'ram pay attention than Nachith. As far as he was concerned, this gave him full license to focus on his female clutchmates.
Good afternoon, ladies! he called fondly to them all before settling in the sand.

R'ysan leaned back on his hands while he sat on the sands and watched others arrive. What a motley bunch they all were he thought to himself as his fingers gripped into the warm sands. They sure didn't look like the future leaders of the Weyr that was for certain. Between the Gold that seemed have retained that 'respect me' for Nothing attitude to the 'look at me, I'm better than anything bronze'. Gone was the illusion of the eggshells and R'ysan sighed just a little wondering how the shards he'd deal with half of these people and their dragons.
Fortunate for him, Reg didn't seem to have any of these more irritating qualities with the exception of a desire for 'things'. He might have thought it was just curiosity but his Reg actually seemed quite a little collector at times. Shiny rocks...his socks that she tried to wear....his shirt which she couldn't get over her nose. All these things made him laugh or sigh depending on what he lost. So far only the socks would stretch over tail tip or the knobs on her forehead making her look like she had knob warmers or....ears. She decided to keep the socks and he had been forced to find a new pair. He wondered what he was going to do when she got bigger.
Reg glanced around with her big green eyes when she heard some one call out and saw that it was Nachith. Oh...hello...Nachith. She said as she sat up and tucked her wings in just a little closer so she could move up against R'ysan. Nachith seemed to like to stare at the girls more than anything when these lessons went on and she wondered why.
Nachith is staring at me again, R'ysan. Mmm...Are you trying to decide which on of us is the prettiest, Nachith? she asked her clutchmate as her tail flopped over her riders legs.
R'ysan glanced over at Sunshine's dragon then at Sunshine... otherwise known as B'ram. He had a feeling he knew why Nachith was curious about the girls but luckily none of the dragons were old enough for anything more than flirting. R'ysan considered the matter thoughtfully then realized that any blue, brown, or bronze was a future potential mate for Reg when she was old enough. He blinked and his brow furrowed when that realization set in and he looked over the other potentials in the clutchmates. And here he was wondering how he'd get along with some of them...great! When he glanced over at Jounoth, he firmly planted it in his head that dragon would not be flying Reg. That was not the vision he had particularly wanted first thing in the morning.
However, Uuni...well she was mmm...a looker plus her dragon was a scamp! And well, mmm...the Weyrleader did have a nice a**. If he had only knew that Uuni thought the same way they might have compared notes! Even though looks weren't usually the deciding factor for him, it did take his mind off of the previous thoughts.
But now he focused in on the Weyrleader/Substitute Weyrlingmaster's words....A work out? R'ysan smirked and even looked forward to this particular part of the lesson today. Because now he was curious as to what sort of work out. His muscles rippled with anticipation because he hadn't had a good fight in a few seven days.
Although, the team building workshop...blazing shards!! TEAM?! Where? Good question! Not on these sands! He ran his fingers through his hair and put an arm on Reg...scratching a ridge. Reg glanced over at R'ysan and understood some of his sentiment even if too young to fully grasp everything.
So now for the questions and quickly he spoke up, "Sir..." he asked putting forth the first question. "Are you meaning teams as far as the single dragon and rider team or are you talking about like teams in the sense of group teaming?" He could only imagine group teaming with Rival Bronze and Rival Brown together...or teaming with Jounath...or for that matter the uppity gold. It sounded like a recipe for disaster.
"Also, what sort of workout are we going to do?" he added that question because that could be the best part of the day for him if he were lucky.

J'lin, Deprith called quietly, Today shall be the last lesson Amelia and Sharath will be attending. Sharath believes Amelia would be interested in what we learn here, thus please be sure to start paying extra attention.
Her rider turned and gave a small wave to Amelia in acknowledgment, sparing a glance to R'ysan. Even though they were bunked near each other, he didn't know the other rider that well. Come to think of it, did some of his stuff go missing around the same time? Hm.
As the Weyrleader began, J'lin carefully lowered himself onto the sand. Whew! It was hot, but it was more comfortable than standing, especially if there was going to be a lecture beforehand. Deprith changed her position, scooting up behind J'lin closely and allowing him to lean on her – that is, if he didn't mind sitting up with a straight back. He shifted away, managing a slight slouch before Deprith was there again. With a shrug, he gave in and leaned against her, much to her delight.
The green dragoness turned as a certain blue dragonet called out, her claws shifting. Nachith! Are you here to actually pay attention to the lesson for once, or are you here just to stare at our tails? She was quite disappointed in that blue, moreso than her clutchmate Jounoth. Nachith should have eyes only for her!
J'lin rolled his eyes, earning a p***k from one of Deprith's claws. I saw that!
I'm sure you did, considering how you're looking at Nachith. J'lin replied with a grin, earning a cuff from Deprith's wing. He shook his head, then turned his attention to the Weyrleader to hear his response to R'ysan's question.

Uuni settled down into the sand, resisting the urge to use Makereth as a backrest. More history lessons.
The workout, at least didn't sound too bad, but . . . well, Uuni supposed it all depended on what they were going to be doing. Makereth wasn't paying any attention to D'astel and his history, so it was lucky that Uuni was.
Because Makereth had learned his lesson after the first two times, he settled into a state of simply telling Uuni all his ideas as they occured to him.
It might be very humiliating and Janga might punch you in the nose, she responded to one of his brilliant schemes, though the twitch at the corner of her lips and the slight tightness in her hands were a hint. Now, pay attention. One of us has to remember this in three days.
"Sure, I have one. Any chance for a lunch break later?" Not the most enlightening question, but a pertinent one. Especially if she'd have to be doing laps. Although being carried off the sands sounded pretty romantic, Uuni would rather be conscious for something like that.

Ayishia shook her head at the inquiry of questions, her attention already beginning to waver. History was never something she was fond of hearing about and if it was about the Weyr, she only really cared if it gave her new ideas of places to check out and possible capitalize on later. Still, she'd listen as best as she was able because if there was a test later, she was going to be as near perfect as she could.
Ptoth was looking away from D'astel, towards the other weyrlings, his eyes whirling green, but hinted with orange too.
Mine...I do not think I am as good as my clutchmates he said finally, sprawling on the sand like a wild cat and curling his tail around his haunches. Why does no one ever talk to me?
It's because you never talk to THEM first...or try to eat them...or hit on them all, I think. You grab only my attention, which is perfectly fine. It is not dishonorable to be yourself. If they don't like it, they can sod off. If you want friends, you need to try harder. Now isn't the time, however. Pay attention.

There had to be some question to ask, Rieta thought, as the call for them came. She didn't want to just sit like a lump, while everyone else called things out. But until the lesson actually started, she didn't exactly know what to ask. She shifted awkwardly in place, discomfited by her own silence and gnawed at her lip. It couldn't be a stupid question. That'd interrupt the lesson, which wouldn't be efficient.
A sigh, and she let her shoulders fall. She'd listen then. Ahh, well.
Good afternoon. Awunrayth's response to Nachith was full of warm affection, as it was toward most of her clutchmates when they addressed her. If she was aware of being watched, and she was usually aware of things, she gave no sign.
Ptoth, however, gained considerably more of her attention. In-tune as she often was to the moods of the others, she quickly picked up on his agitation, her own eyes taking on a touch of yellow. Is all well, Ptoth?

K'han shot a sideways glance and a welcoming smile at Uuni as she and her blue sat down next to them. He liked Uuni, from what he'd seen of her, and while Makereth seemed like a prankster, he really meant no harm. In a clutch full of strong personalities, the blue was good at lightening the mood. Which was something they all needed! K'han might have big ideas, but that didn't mean he was about to start taking himself too seriously!
Roheth visibly perked up when Sharath walked in. His eyes whirled brilliant blue, but then dulled to hues of concern at the sounds of Jounoth's snarls. The bronze dragonet would always harbor some fondness for the queen, but even that was not enough to overcome his instinct to try to rescue absolutely everyone and everything. Mine... Is there nothing we can do to help my brother?
K'han sighed inwardly. This was a conversation they'd had at least a dozen times. Sometimes, he wondered whether it was Roheth's memory at work, or whether the stubborn bronze was simply ignoring his advice. He, too, felt strangely uncomfortable seeing any dragon thus restrained. Especially having experienced now the bond between him and Roheth, how intelligent and emotionally complex even a young dragon could be... It was like seeing a friend in chains. But it was the Weyrwoman's command, and it was necessary, at least until Jounoth calmed down and learned better. You'll only make him angrier. You don't want to upset him even worse, do you? Especially now, when we're supposed to be paying attention to lessons.
Roheth's head drooped slightly, and K'han gently rubbed his eyeridges, trying (with limited success) to listen to the lesson at the same time he spoke to Roheth.
After, then. I will wait until after.
K'han tried to suppress a wince. That was not the response he'd been hoping for.

"Alright, kids--" As soon as the word left his lips, D'astel realized his mistake, and did his best to correct himself quickly without looking too much like a demeaning fool. "Riders, pay attention." He knew better than to expect it of such young dragons. "This lesson has officially started, so pay attention."
That said, he drummed his fingers on his knee. "No one has any questions? Not going to make this very interactive, are you? Well, I'll just go over the outline the Weyrlingmaster asked of me." Once he remembered what that was.
Ah, right.
"High Reaches, as it's name suggests, is the highest Weyr of all Weyrs. We've got some pretty interesting scenery you won't find anywhere else, like our spindles outside. You might not notice these things much, but they're all part of a heritage very important to this Weyr. Even if you're from elsewhere, this Weyr is part of you now."
Don't look at a choice few of them, he had to remind himself. Singling students out was bad.
"Any questions yet or shall I go on? If no one mans up I'm going to extend this by ten minutes. You don't want to listen to me talk that much, do you?"

R'ysan growled under his breath considering the Weyrlingmaster...Weyrleader ignored both of his questions! What a way to start his day and really stoked up his temper. Did the man just have bad hearing or was he too busy looking at the other girls' asses to give a shard? Of course Uuni put forth a question too an that was ignored as well, so who's a** was the Weyrleader watching then!?
So rather annoyed, R'ysan spoke up again when asked for a question...and this time a little more force was behind his voice rather than the politeness he used earlier. "I don't care how much ya talk but I had asked two questions and Uuni over there gave ya another when you inquired before. If you're thinking we're not listening then I ask ya the same. Are you paying attention?? Because I ain't here to have my words fall on daft ears and I'm sure that's the same for you."

You are all pretty, Nachith replied wisely to Regedth. Lofrewth was the prettiest, of course, but actually saying that to the others wasn't going to earn him any points. Leaving out that one tiny detail of his preference was definitely the best way to go.
Deprith, however, didn't get such a nice response. To her, he said haughtily, I'm not staring at you.
B'ram didn't really have anything to ask; he'd grown up here, after all. And anyway, an extra ten minutes wasn't really that bad. Instead, he rubbed idly behind Nachith's headknobs and watched R'ysan make a scene.

Ptoth turned his head at the inquiry from Awunrayth, head tilting muzzle down some as though embarrassed, which he was. I am fine, Awunrayth. Nothing important. Yourself? You look well today. He said this all very fast until getting to the topic of the green herself, to which he said politely. He wasn't trying to flirt, for his tone was genuine. He sighed with a soft 'whuff' sound and cocked his wings back tight to his back, trying to look nonchalant by willing his eyes to retain a calmer color.
Meanwhile, Ayi was not paying attention to Ptoth's issues at the moment, instead watching intently as R'ysan was making an a** of himself in front of the Weyrleader. Her lip twitched as the urge to speak out at him rose heavy in her chest, but she kept it to herself only because she was in a large group and didn't need to possibly be chastised by ANYONE in such mixed company. Like B'ram, she didn't care much for the extra time on the sands, as she'd have to go back to the messy business of oiling dragonhide again and feeding the bottomless pit. That and she also grew up here and knew a greater amount about the Weyr than the new folk. Not everything, but a lot.

When R’ysan spoke out angrily, Amelia’s back straightened and her eyes narrowed as she leaned forward, gaze settling on the other rider, “I hardly think such irreverent back talk is warranted or appropriate, R’ysan. You speak to a teacher and the Weyrleader, show some respect.” Her tone was flat, unrepentant as she stared at the other, strong in her belief that such behaviour was unwarranted. “I do, however, think it’s not particularly fair to penalize the class when they’re readily listening.” Now her gaze turned to the Weyrleader, “You would punish us because we choose to listen first rather then act first? I don’t know but… it seems to me that acting before understanding’s a dangerous business. Don’t want the tunnel coming down on your head, right?”
Shrugging, she moved on, “As for questions, Weyrlingmaster, how about this: Given that this Weyr is the highest of the Weyrs does that mean it is the biggest as well? And the spindles are some sort of volcanic features if my memory serves, but what purpose besides purely iconographic do they serve? Why was this location chosen as a Weyr rather then a different caldera? At its peak, what was the dragon population here? And… how many, total, can the Weyr support comfortably?” There was a bit of amusement as she spoke, as if questioning that such things were sufficient enough and appropriate enough to fulfill his demand for questions.
Sharath’s gaze had shifted with her rider’s and also regarded R’ysan with disapproval. So terribly uppity… she snorted and looked away easily enough, choosing to treat the rider as beneath her notice until he proved to be something more…. Respectable.
As Amelia spoke, though, her attention wandered even if she was amused at her bonded’s tone of voice. Spotting Roheth then, she tilted her head Such disrespectful behaviour is unbecoming of another, don’t you think Roheth? I trust you are well? The conversation between the riders did not interest her so the queen sought out more interesting things – and she had not spoken to Roheth as far as she could remember.

Blah blah high reaches blah spindles blah. K'han knew all this. He'd lived here for seventeen Turns, for Faranth's sake! Still, he'd sit patiently and listen. It sounded from D'astel's description at the beginning like the fun part was yet to come, and he had yet to figure out a way to amuse himself during particularly lessons (apart from speaking privately to Roheth) that wouldn't attract some notice.
He couldn't help but chuckle at the waves of snark that were coming off of a certain greenrider. Hopefully D'astel wouldn't think K'han was laughing at him -- though K'han shut up when Amelia started talking.
Ouch. Did someone just get told? If not, then tell them, goldrider! And a two-for-one burn, too! And before he knew what he was doing, K'han was opening his mouth. Roheth shot him a look torn between dismay at his disrespect of an older rider, and approval at his implicit support of Sharath's rider.
"I don't think this the biggest," K'han responded to one of her questions, "I think that's Benden. Though I could be wrong." To D'astel, he added, "Might be a stupid question, but who were the first recorded weyrleader and weyrwoman?" His expression remained friendly, in contrast to the annoyance coming from other riders, though he couldn't quite keep the amusement off his face at this whole "confrontation." In for a mark, in for a flit egg.
When he was addressed, Roheth turned to face Sharath, though he remained seated at K'han's side. He inclined his head politely in greeting before responding. I am quite well, my queen. And yourself? You look radiant as always. What might have been flattery or flirting coming out of the mouth of another dragon was meant with no guile from Roheth. Sharath, from what he could recall of her (the events of their hatching were already gone from his memory) liked to be admired. And she was worthy of admiration, so it would be good to see her happy.

Regedth grinned for a brief moment at Nachith, You flatter sweetly. But..., Although she didn't finish her next sentence as her rider distracted her; his mood had swung just a bit.
R'ysan eyes flicked over to the Amelia and narrowed as well as his body started to tense up just a bit with her words. She acted like she was the disciplinary telling him what to do. Well, Well, Well...that wasn't the case in any way shape or form.
While he hadn't been 'angry' before...maybe just a bit rude, he found 'Ms I've got a Gold Dragon' annoying enough to start pushing at his temper. "Oh I respect him even if he doesn't respect me or my questions. What I don't respect is you. You've gotta earn that. Ya ain't the Weyrwoman and just cause you got a gold don't mean I feel any reason to lick your toe and come into line like the rest that will preen at your feet for color alone." He'd never kowtow to anyone like that.
Regedth nudged up against him and almost by instinct his arm slide over her. He took a brief glance to her just to make sure she was alright before his eyes returned to to D'astel as other questions were soon spoken; ignoring Amelia and her dragon. Although he was tense, he reminded himself that he was here to better his knowledge of Reg and her needs.

Sharath had smiled to Roheth then, nodding her head, I am well, thank-you Roheth. Mine does a good job of oiling my hide, I itch very little now. What of y- She cut herself off as R'ysan spoke out against Amelia, eyes immediately whirling from green and blue to angry reds and oranges.
Amelia’s gaze shot back to the other and she sighed, standing as Sharath surged forward with a rather angry sound. The gold was caught, however, by her rider’s staying hand and the gold blinked as Amelia held onto her headknob with surprising strength, muscles flexing with the effort. “Sharath, no.” Her voice was steady, strong and the dragon rumbled with irritation but did not struggle further against Hers if only because she did not wish to harm Amelia. There is a time and place, and I do not want you causing trouble Sharath. This is class and he is right.
When Sharath settled, Amelia closed the distance to R’ysan and crossed her arms as she stood before the rider, expression serious and gaze narrowed, “No, I am not Weyrwoman, and no I do not expect you to bow to my will like some sort of mindless, broken wherry – least of all because Sharath is gold. You will respect us because we deserve it, not because of the rank that’s been foisted upon me. I expect the same sort of courtesy any other person deserves and no more – even if Sharath disagrees with me on this point. That you condemn me before you’ve even attempted to know me is ignorant and uncalled for – perhaps you should step down from your righteous pedestal, rider, and walk with me me eye to eye, toe to toe, and mind to mind before you pass such easy judgment. I do not think any less of you because your lifemate is a green – I think you’re both courageous individuals bound for great things and better prepared for your role then I at current. You, and everyone else here who Stood at the Hatching had the benefit of your Candidacy to fall back on, and perhaps it is because of that your preconceptions are so ingrained into your mind that you cannot see the forest for the trees.” She reached out, offered a hand in open greeting and arched a brow, “I wish to dispel that preconception and impress upon you that we are to be respected because of who we are and not what we are.” There was, perhaps, an edge of challenge in her voice as she stood waiting. She would speak to D’astel afterwards if necessary but this was something important and something she had been worrying about over the past weeks – her treatment had changed and people saw only the gold flash of Sharath’s hide and not the personality beyond.
Sharath, however, was staring balefully at R’ysan, a sheer aura of anger radiating from the quivering dragonet as she stalked forward to stand beside Amelia. The girl was right, she knew, but this rider had no reason to be that way, none whatsoever and her voice slid across his mindscape, full of scathing reproach and offended pride, You, rider, are atrocious. I do not respect you. You question Mine and call her unworthy of respect. You are a fool if cannot see past your ignorance to the truth beyond – she is Mine and above your limited vie-
Enough! Amelia called in an annoyed mental voice, interrupting the young gold though she held her spot and kept her hand out, I told you not to do that! You are gold, Sharath, but you are not stupid! We must work with these people, not make enemies and that is precisely what you are doing. So stop.
Sharath’s golden head and turned to stare at her rider, eyes whirling red and yellow now, obviously thinking for a moment before refusing to give in quite so easily, No. I will not sit idly by and let such an ungrateful burr naysay you Mine! You are a goldrider and deserving of his respect for you will lead them, all of them! Do not let him make you second guess yourself, Mine, he is not worth your care if he cannot care for you. Her gaze shifted back to R’ysan, Do not insult Mine, rider, you will regret it. Remember your place and remember mine. I respect you only if you respect me.
“Sharath!” Amelia shouted glancing to D’astel for assistance. “I said stop!” She was embarrassed now, knowing Sharath was making a spectacle of herself and her rider. The queen just did not understand that R’ysan was right even if he was tactless in expressing it and saw only the insult in the words. Amelia shook her head as he grabbed Sharath and made the gold to look at her, “I said stop! Listen to me got it? Leave it be.” Did Sharath not realize that even if she was a gold, she would be a gold of nothing if nobody wanted to be near her? Or that no one would respect Amelia if she could not control her dragonet?
