"And what about you? What do you plan on naming your green?" Dashias asked his friend as he looked over. He found the broom in the corner and slowly moved back over to the mess the minature hatching had created. He began to sweep the spilled sands and broken shell pieces into a pile. He was quiet while he swept because he really didn't think words were necessary to make the work go faster. Dashias was planning on writing the events down later and paying a runner what little marks he had to send a message to his family back at Harper Hall.

He looked up when B'shir had Sakneth move near the door. Quickly, he moved out the way to give the bronze weyrling some space to manuver. He wondered what it would be like to be bonded to such a strong personality and could only hope that if he ever Impressed, that they would be a good match. "Sooo... What's it like? Having another being in your mind? I mean, I can feel Quill there slightly but my brain is mainly mine. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I am just curious."

Sands and shells swept into a pile, the candidate looked around for a way to scoop them up and toss them into the waste.

B'shir looked at his green in surprise. That's right. She didn't come with her own name. He would have to give her one. Wonderful. He wasn't much for naming. It came too close to falling under the heading of creativity. B'shir wasn't creative. It was a failing of his that he could only hope wouldn't hinder Sakneth while they were training. Sakneth would want a position of authority, and deserved it because of his metallic hide, but a leader had to be adaptable and a creative problem solver. Maybe Sakneth had those qualities, and they could work together. And maybe Sakneth would decide he should be the boss in the relationship, and that wasn't going to happen.

"I...hadn't given it any thought. The whole thing's a bit of a surprise, you know?"

Names. Names, names, names. The only names he could think of belonged to people he knew. His sisters, his mother, some of the other weyrbrats and candidates and weyrlings. None of them really seemed much like something he would want to name a firelizard. Not to mention there was the awkward moment that would come should he run into whomever he named the 'lizard for and they got the wrong idea. There weren't that many reasons to name a pet after someone, after all.

So name her after yourself, Sakneth suggested.

My name is a male name, B'shir pointed out.

So change the parts of it to make it female. Sakneth said this as if this were the most obvious thing in the world and he was a long-suffering dragon who had to do all the thinking in the relationship.

"Um. Shibra, maybe? Is that a good name?" Sakneth was laughing at him in the back of his mind. B'shir tried to ignore it.

"As for having Sakneth in my mind..." he glanced back at his dragon, who was looking at him expectantly.

Yes? What's it like, mine, to share your mind with me? the bronze dragonet asked. I'm dying to know.

"...It's unlike anything else in the world. Kind of like Quill, but with words and opinions. Strong, in both cases."

((I say we wrap it up in the next post or two??))

"Shibra is an interesting name and I like it. I have to remember to write this down soon while I remember all the details. I imagine that most people who have experience a hatching hardly remember to write it down for others to experience." Dashias was rambling now. He didn't mean to but he was happy and excited and tired all at once.

"It was a bit of a surprise. I had actually hoped they would hatch on seventh day when I had a real break. Sorry to have gotten you into this mess but you were there when the goods and tallies were being done. So in a way, you helped." He nodded as if this ended the topic.

When B'shir answered his question about having Sakneth in his mind, he paused and thought it over. No one would be able to describe it the same way twice, he was sure. Managing a flat pan and the broom most awkwardly, he managed to get most of the mess up and into the waste pile. With the little bit left, he swept it around and could only hope someone else would finish the job. "I hope you don't mind. But I still tire rather easily. And my back is starting to ache. Numbweed for me and a light sleep. I am not needed until after mid meal."

"Thanks," B'shir mumbled. Well. Dashias was creative, and if he liked it that was good enough for B'shir.

He ignored his bronze dragon snickering in the back of his mind except to remind him, You chose me, remember. I was content to let you Impress to someone else.

Sakneth glared at him, completely unappreciative of the reminder. He was the best dragon in the Weyr, and he had chosen the best young man available. It wasn't his fault he didn't have it in him to go between simply because there was no one who could match his perfection. He had chosen the best human he could find. He hadn't realized until later that having so many similar traits could be such an annoyance.

"You're probably right, though I imagine there're a number of harpers who Impress and write long, florid ballads about the experience." It wouldn't surprise him in the least. It also wasn't something he would ever do. "So your notes should be helpful. More so than their compositions, anyway."

B'shir nodded as Dashias excused him, more or less, for Impressing a firelizard that wasn't meant to be his. For the time being he chose not to think about what his grandfather would say when he arrived the next morning with a firelizard in tow. Probably there'd be a short reminder that his attention shouldn't be divided between Sakneth and anything else, and a suggestion that he encourage the little green to go between and not come back. B'shir couldn't do that.

"No, it's fine. Rest. Sorry," B'shir said. The sorry was tacked on mostly because he still considered it his fault that Dashias was injured at all. Sakneth laughed at him some more, and continued to do so as they left the dormitory.
