"I feel sorry for yours." Writ sniffed, "Wonder how uptight they had to be to produce such a upright citizen like yourself."

Well, he wasn't that upright. Writ had bent him just a little bit. It was getting easier to compel the (mostly) good guy to do some blatant troublemaking. What was especially amusing was the fact that he had a little sister to watch over, and a girlfriend that would kill him if he went through with what he was planning.

"Look forward to seeing it." Writ already felt like he won, "I'll be watchin'."

"My mother is strict," he admitted, albeit proudly. "My father, though..." Trailing off, he glanced up at the sky with a long moment of silence. "Not so strict."

The implication hung in the air. Valeriu's father shared a lot of things in common with the people he hung out with the most: a little bit ridiculous, a little bit crazy, a little bit laid-back and a little bit of a trouble-maker. Andrei played pranks and undermined Dana as much as he could get away with - which wasn't much. Valeriu's mother was a formidable woman.

The familiar pang of anguish never failed to remind him that they had yet to return, a desolate look passing over his face briefly like a dark cloud of smoke.

"V'ell," he started, and shook off the feeling, tightening his clasp on the bag of Halloween decorations as if he half expected Writ to run off with them. "I hope you enjoy the show," he muttered gravely. "For it v'ill be the most magnificent thing you shall ever see in your lifetime. Be sure to remember it," he reminded Writ, kindly. "Maybe v'rite it in your diary. Make a video. A scrapbook. To look back on in your old age and cry v'hen I have v'on the Game and thoroughly trounced you."

Valeriu thought he was being quite modest, really.

Wasn't the trickster supposed to be the cocky one? Writ didn't mind trading spaces. He only had so much of an ego, and he didn't want to go flaunting it around someone who evidently self-absorbed with their own prank. He kept on the mask of modesty.

"Well, you got a lot to live up to then." Writ said quite honestly, "I'll be disappointed if I see anything less than a nuke hit the town." He laughed as he walked down the porch steps, "Have fun Vale."
