Valheita Shiori Miko Valheita Cherry Brossom Maybe it's because so many people have been taught that being gay is something to be ashamed of. And the antidote to that is to stick up for yourself and proclaim to the world that you're happy with the way you are. At least that's what I would guess. That's a good reason why it happens, but I cannot help but feel that it's counter productive. Nobody ever got accepted by flaunting their differences. ( I think? ) Don't people generally get accepted for showing their differences don't make them that different? Generally yes. By fitting in and moving with the pack, while still being different. I was thinking of the Civil Rights Movement. Different colors of skin, but still all people.

That was different in the way that, they were ALREADY separated (by law) and tried to unite. What you're talking about is instead of trying to unite, you try to be different by making it obvious they're different. If I ever see a photograph with an African American in 1960 wearing an "I'M BLACK, DEAL WITH IT MAN" shirt, I'll concede.

And the thing I hate most about gay pride parades is that
Gay people see it as oh look it here I'm going to show my fake tits and my weener it's about pride not about going out to the streets dressed as a drama queen in a very short cop suit I mean you don't see anyone else showing so much pride like that in any event

First off, your comment of "If something is normal than there's no point in taking express pride in it." You're assuming that people think it's normal or okay or that it's equal. To this day, there are many people who do not think black/latinos/etc are at all equal in intelligence or status. To this day, thehre are many people who think gays are abnormal/freaks/weird/etc. Gay Pride/Black Pride/etc isn't about flaunting your whatever. It's about raising awareness of the group - because there are still a lot of misconceptions about race, sexuality, etc. Yes, people in parades are flamboyant. But that's because it's a parade. It's also about coming together as a group. During parades and pride things, people come from all over the country, continents, and world, and unite. These pride events provide support for people who attend them, as well as to those who are too afraid to come out. It demonstrates that people of such and such a minority can be happy. It shows that they are people, too. You don't need White Pride or Straight Pride because you're the majority - not only in numbers, but in economical and social statuses. People don't beat you up for being a "breeder" or spit on you and call you a "cracker." Black/Latino people don't have white privilege, which is something that we (white people) most definitely have.

Gay pride as you put it exists because there are those who put it down as something to be ashamed of. On the other hand, excessive pride in anything leads almost inevitably to prejudice.
Imagine a straight, white, male pride march... do any of you think of KKK rallies?

Actually Cleo, if I'm assuming anything, it's that homosexuals want to be thought of as normal.
"because you're the majority". I disagree. We don't GET it, because if we did, every minority in the world would throw a BITCHFEST about how horribly racist it is.

Pride and hope are all that you have under oppression. Both have to be strong if you don't want to fade away.

People in school get scared of me and run or hide I just know that they think I'm gay but I never told them they think I am atracted to them eow no!
My teacher said to them why do they treat me so bad and this annoying whore c**k sucker said that "I beat me up every day because he's weird"
So if i were showing my gay pride all around middle school I would get beat ups every second. Course if i were in high school i would be showing pride all around even with the gangsters throwing pizza at me

@Rairi:Yes... but at the same time, there are better ways of expressing pride than being in ones face.
I mean, I have no issues with homosexuals or homosexuality, but its -really- obnoxious when people have sigs going "I'm gay. DEAL WITH IT".
It's like "Uh yeah. Who cares? It's just another sexuality .__."

Rairi Sakurai Pride and hope are all that you have under oppression. Both have to be strong if you don't want to fade away. What if the excessive show of pride is what makes them oppressed? Since it makes them look different when they're really not. I mean, look at what pride did to the KKK you mentioned, they were just normal everyday people that were showing "pride". Quotation marks lingering heavy.
