To be honest, he wasn't sure how much he liked the sound of any of the information the white angelic parted with. Of course he knew that there were bound to be vampires who weren't one-hundred percent vile and lost in wanting to kill, maim, and control. Then again he had yet to actually meet one and so much of his conclusions were supported by fearful gossip he managed to overhear. Still it was, almost, good to know there were some not bad vampires around.
"Well. Ah. As long as you didn't want to become one. I don't claim to understand what find attractive in the need to suck blood," he shuddered.
As for the undead... That was something he hadn't heard about, not in the manner she was speaking. He felt a bit lost for words to explain what he thought or felt on the matter. It didn't sound like they were harming anything and he supposed he couldn't say anything against them.
"I imagine that, if they are anything like you, they must be-nice," he managed. Compliments served well when one couldn't think of anything to say. At least he hoped so because he really didn't have a clue of what to say about her family. As long as they weren't hurting the Oasis, he wasn't worried. He supposed they probably were actually nice. And he didn't tend to say what he didn't mean.

She merely shook her head at the remark about sucking blood. Having come from a bleeding family, it would seem awkward to feed from the stuff that she and her relatives shed everyday. She very well never wanted to drink from her own halo... that would be... rather vile and bitter. Scarlet had met a few vampires who certainly showed interest in the crimson-stained circlet floating above her head, but it never really bothered her, so long as they didn't show any interest in draining the blood from her body.
The fur on the angelic femme's cheeks reddened slightly at Keiran's kind remark. Very few had given her compliments - not that she ever expected them - and it sounded rather genuine coming from an otter who had so far seemed rather wary and cynical. "Oh they are," she murmured shyly in response. "Mother and Papa especially. They're two of the kindest otters in the reserve." she added with a small smile before tipping her head thoughtfully to the side. "Please don't think ill of me for asking, but... ahh... do you have any family here, Keiran?"

He blinked stupidly, the question seemingly coming out of nowhere. He crossed his forepaws as he considered it. There were more than one definition for family and though he carefully went over each of them, he had to shake his head in the end. "I-I do not." There was a slight tightening of his jaw as he pushed thoughts back with a rough shake of his head that went all the way to his tail. It left a ruffle of fur along his spine.
He gave a shrug, rather noncommittal, "I don't remember them much." That was true and it was hard, though not impossible, to miss that which you had never had (or remembered having). "No reason to think ill of you for asking, it doesn't bother me." And that, well that wasn't quite the truth. Sometimes it did bother him.

Scarlet fidgeted awkwardly, afraid she touched on an uncomfortable topic. And that she might have come on rather randomly. "I-I'm sorry for asking, I was just curious. It's hard to tell who's apart of the growing families around here... and I was just interested to know whether you had any relatives around these parts too when you inquired about Papa and Az... and I just..."
She trailed off, feeling more flighty and nervous the more she spoke. "S-sorry," she stammered bashfully, adverting her gaze briefly to stare down at her paws. "It wasn't really my place to ask." She had been rather curious though. Afterall, she grew up with a family of six brothers and sisters, one of which had mated into the reserve's largest family of pirates. The familiarity of relatives came so natural to her that she forgot at times there were some otters who had been found as solitary clams.

Part of him wanted to assure her, to ease her nervousness, because it made him nervous. Most of him simply wanted to retreat. It was a rare thing for him to ever think of backing down. When it came down to it, he was more of a fighter--never in the direct sense--than someone who simply hid in their den hoping that when they came out it would all be over. But then it had been ages since someone had brought up family. Something he had never had.
He gave a cough, "It's fine," he said gruffly. He had the decently to cringe at the roughness of his own voice before shaking it off. "I should be going. It was nice meeting you." A simple nod of his head and he turned to head towards home.
After a few steps, he stopped, twisted his neck to look over his shoulder. "Be careful-" normally he would have called her a kid, it was what he tended to call anyone younger than himself, but instead he found himself being more considerate, "-Scarlet." If only because she seemed squirrelly enough as it was.

Scarlet shuffled her paws anxiously, feeling like she had made a fool of herself. It was when he spoke that she looked up again, only to notice that he seemed to be taking his leave. Her ears tilted back in a regretful manner, wondering if her childish inquiry had warded him off. She had the tendency to force the blame onto herself. She silently nodded in a like-wise fashion to indicate it was nice to have met him as well. Even if it was awkward for the most part.
She sighed wearily as he turned to leave and rose to her paws to do the same, before pausing as the older male addressed her one last time, and by her name. The pale angelic looked at him for a moment and dipping her head a bit in a shaky fashion, but graciously all the same. "You too... Take care, Keiran." she murmured with a small smile. Unfurling her wings, Scarlet crouched down before springing into the air, taking one more look over her shoulder at the male before gliding off between the trees.
