Official request for increased production of fishing boats in harbor cities... approved. Citywide ban request for nomad tea in public establishments... denied. Formal request for more bacon to be delivered for breakfast to the quarters of- Rath facepalmed, and grumbled under his breath. "...Heath!" Denied. Rath gave a deep sigh, and kept going with his work. Now where was he? Oh yes, boring stacks of-
Yet another knock. It hadn't even been ten minutes since- Oh no, wait, it had already been around hour since Songhua left, according to the position of the sun. ..Well then, perhaps another break could be spared after all. When the knocker called out to him, he recognized Isadora's voice, but was somewhat unhappy about her message. He expected that she would come eventually, that is true, but... well, seeing her wouldn't hurt any, he supposed. "... ...See her in."
Rath looked up from his desk, as the door opened, and Alihi walked in. He took no specific notes on her appearance, but noticed that she seemed off. Choosing to ignore this, he greeted her. "Welcome Alihi... What can I do for you..?" He knew the answer already.. Rath just wished he would find the right words to say.

♦ ◄ALIHI► ♦ ————————————
Alihi made no effort to speak with Isadora all the way to the castle. She stared blankly ahead, thinking, making use of the information that she had. Amara was gone. The kidnapper had wings and was able to use swords and magic. Their destination and the kidnapper's motive are unknown.
... That's a lot of information to work with... She thought bitterly, scowling slightly. No. She needed more to work with. No plans could be made with so little knowledge... And sitting around was not an option. She had to move forward, make progress, do something besides just sitting around and feeling sorry for herself. Her hand drifted to her side, gently resting where the gash was. She'd find a way to get Amara back one way or another. Even if the whole world was against her, she'd do it... It's the least she could do for her only daughter.
Her stagger before became a more steady, comfortable walk as she followed Isadora through the castle. Her heart beat rapidly against her chest and her face was set with determination. With each step forward she felt her old, confident self returning.
There was no turning back now. Alihi had to keep pressing forward, even with the weight of despair heavy on her shoulders.
Once the door opened and she saw Rath, it all came crashing down. It wasn't because it was Rath... it was more like the reality of the situation set in. Although she hated to admit it, she couldn't rush off on a rescue mission yet; the odds of success would be extremely low. The continent was huge. And, with that magic... The tactician tensed slightly.
Alone, she didn't stand a chance.
"... Thank you for seeing me, Rath." She smiled slightly, though it was a shaky smile, one that could be broken in an instant. "I... can't get my mind off of Amara." Her hands clenched together in a firm grip as she forced herself to look straight at Rath. She was afraid and emotionally weak. Any wrong words could set her off. She didn't want to break. Not now... "Please... if you know anything, anything at all about her... situation right now... anything at all... please, let me know! I can't leave her like this... I can't sit around and wait for things to happen! I..." Her voice cracked slightly and she choked back a tiny sob. No, she couldn't cry now. She had to appear strong, if only for now. "... I have to save her... I have to..."

It was hard to hear these words. Though his heart felt pity for Alihi, he did not outwardly show it. Instead, he kept his same calm demeanor, as he began to reply to her.
"Unfortunately, we know nothing you haven't been able to figure out on your own, given your talents. A raven laguz who uses swords and magic." He made sure to leave out the part where he thought it was something more than just a kidnapping. It was not in his nature to claim something without certainty. He would look into it, at a later time. "...You.. must understand... In our current situation, there is not much that can be done."
He turned away slightly, feeling uncomfortable looking her in the eye, for some reason Rath could not recognize. "My.. current stance is to wait to see if the kidnapper makes contact. If a search was made, it would be bound to come up empty." He shut his eyes for a moment. "...I suppose... we could technically send out some scouts by air, but... it is unknown if the kidnapper is still in Learania, and we cannot simply send troops into another country."
He looked back at Alihi, and felt like he had swallowed a boulder. He tried to be as reasonable as possible, though words were not his strong point. Still, to say that there's nothing you could do to help a mother who's lost her child... not only is it hard, but it felt wrong, despite the rational facts. The look on her face reminded him of someone special. What if it had been his daughter? Ignoring that fact that he wouldn't have allowed that to happen... what would he do, if it did? Surely his reason would bend in that case. Such thoughts made Rath uneasy... he wasn't sure if he would be able to continue to stand firm, if she asked again.

Alihi closed her eyes slowly. She did not scream. She did not cry. A pained expression was clear on her face... she just stood there, silent for a few moments, as she thought over what she was just told.
There was nothing she could do but wait. The thought of doing so terrified her; her mind showed her images of Amara, her face twisted with pain as she endured torturous methods that were too familiar to Alihi for her own comfort. Her stomach twisted painfully and her whole body felt heavy, so heavy that she was surprised that she didn't fall through the floor. "I... I understand..." She said softly, forcing herself to comply. More than nothing, she wanted to scream at him, shout in his face, demand that he put himself in her shoes and still see if he could say to wait... but that would be wrong. She did understand; in reality, little time had passed between the kidnapping and now. It would have been strange to have more information in such a short time-frame.
She still had to hope, though... right?
Alihi sighed quietly. Something that Rath said didn't settle well with her... "You... you say we can't send troops into other countries... And I understand this." Her eyes opened slightly. "But... let's say she's not in Learania... what would happen then?" Her voice was soft but dripped with emotion; fear, hurt, and a possible anger, all which could flourish easily with the wrong words.
"... S-she wouldn't be left for dead... would she?"

Rath's eyes opened slightly wider, as she asked him the first question. It was not a question easily answered. His first thoughts said that it would depend on which country she was in. If it was Adliana or Estarcia, it would just require getting permission. ...Other countries would be.. much more difficult.
However, before he could conger up the words for his reply, she hit him with another question. Rath choked on his words. He couldn't answer such a thing. The answer... was fairly obvious. In reply to the question, Rath closed his eyes and spoke lowly. "It is... not rational to focus on such... unknown possibilities." It was an obvious step around the question he was asked. He looked at her once more, and could see the pain in her eyes. It was overwhelming. It was too much.
He turned away from, and sighed. "I... will have Captain Vaida send out some scouts on wyverns. I cannot promise you that they will be successful! ...But they will be extremely thorough." He remained turned away. For somebody to make him take back what he said, and give a different command was quite rare. Only Nino had been able to do that. It made him feel soft. Letting others see that was unacceptable.
Not wanting this feeling of insecurity to continue, he turned back around slightly, and looked at Alihi. "...In the meantime... I'm aware that you have a.. friend.. who is still resting in the healing facilities." He turned back around. "..You should go see him. I'll call you if there's any news."
After the girl departed from his office, Rath called out to one of the guards. "....Bring The Guard Captain to me at once." He then made his way around the desk and sat down behind it. He gave a deep sigh. It seemed the more involved into things Learania became, the worse headache he received.

A wave of relief washed over Alihi. There was going to be a search for Amara... just the word that the searching would happen was satisfactory. She smiled softly. "Th-thank you..." She pressed a hand to her chest, sighing happily and quietly to herself. For now, she was calmer, more upbeat, more like her usual self...
But how long would that last? When would that all come crashing down again?
The tactician nodded slightly at Rath's suggestion to go check in on Abel. That was part of her original plan, after all! "I will." She turned to the door, but paused for a moment. Hand hovering over the doorknob, she glanced over her shoulder, back at Rath. "... Thank you again. It means a lot to me."
Without another word, Alihi departed the office and headed for the healing facilities. Her mind buzzed with excitement the whole walk over; she was strangely optimistic over the news. It felt silly, but she couldn't help but feel a bit... giddy. They were going to do the best they could to find Amara.
They weren't going to give up.
Alihi quietly slipped inside the healing facilities area. Inside, it was relatively quiet, though she heard some music in the corner. She turned in the direction of the music and cracked a small smile. "Nils..." Nils turned to the new and familiar voice. He blinked a few times, startled by the tactician's appearance. Though she was in cleaner clothes, she still looked like a wreck; her hair was still messy and the color in her face was lighter than usual. The shock faded, though, and he lowered the flute from his lips, stopping the soft, calming music to speak. "... He's over there." He said softly, pointing with his flute to one of the beds.
She nodded a quick "thanks" to the bard before walking over in the direction he indicated. The music started up again, as calming and peaceful as before. "... Abel?" She whispered softly and hesitantly, hoping that he wasn't asleep.
(( Included Nils because otherwise I'd forget about him~ <<;; ))

What happened? He had looked back into the ballroom, after hearing a loud shattering noise, and turned around to see a black winged figure coming right at him. After that, everything went dark. Pain surged through his entire body. He could still hear voices. He heard orders being given to the guards, he heard the hawk king speak to him, but then the voices faded as well. The next thing he heard was his name.
Abel's eyes opened, when he heard a familiar voice. "..Alihi?" He looked over to her, and smiled when he saw that it really was her. "You're here... What.. what happened? Where are we? Where is everyone?" He tried to sit up, but cringed a little, as his body was still really sore, despite having been fully healed, so he didn't make it all the way. The bandages weren't just for show.
He looked at her, and noticed that she wasn't looking alright. And she wasn't answering his questions right off, either. "...Are you ok?" He waited for her to say something, but nothing had yet come. His face grew from confusion to concern. "...Alihi?"

A lump formed in Alihi's throat, preventing her from speaking immediately. She knelt down by his side, taking his hand gently in hers.
It was warm.
Her eyes watered slightly. She knew that he wasn't dead, but she still felt the need to confirm it. She wanted to know that this wasn't some clever trick of the mind. "T-thank goodness... you're... alright..." Her voice cracked slightly as she whispered to him; her mood was jumping around like crazy. The optimism from earlier turned into relief and... was it pain? She felt herself hesitating, unable to figure out what to say.
He... doesn't know... "You... you're in the medical area of the castle..." Alihi closed her eyes slowly, choosing her words carefully, for him and also herself. "... I think other people are out and about Eyris right now. I'm not sure, though... I..." She hesitated for a moment, her voice beginning to waver. A few tears rolled down her cheeks as she forced herself to continue. He needed to know. "I... wish I could say I was okay... I-I really do... but that would be a lie." Alihi opened her eyes, staring at Abel sadly. She was unable to force a smile on her face.
"... Abel, Amara was kidnapped."

He could tell that her voice was off. Something wasn't right. But what could it be? He was in the medical area, so he must have been hurt pretty badly, but he was all healed now. ...Did something happen at the party? As he continued to ponder, his answer was given.
His heart sank. "W...what?" What did she mean Amara was kidnapped? How could that have happened? Amara was right there. She was right beside him. "No, that's..." He looked down, and his hands started to shake a little. "That's not..."
He then was able to put together what had happened. "...It's my fault..." He stammered. "I was there with her... I didn't protect her... I was too weak." He raised an arm over his eyes, as they started to get red. He couldn't show his sadness. He didn't like to cry. He had to grow up. But this was too much. It was like losing a sister, or a daughter. And he couldn't do anything to stop it, even though he was right there. "Please.. don't hate me. I'm sorry..." He sniffed. "I'm so sorry..."

Alihi's eyes widened slightly. He was with her before she was kidnapped? Then... would he know more than she did? What am I thinking?! She mentally scolded herself, frowning slightly. This isn't the time to think about this... "... Abel..." Her heart sank as he hid his face. It hurt to see him upset like this... It hurt so much. It wasn't right. She wanted to cheer him up, bring the smile back to his face... It didn't settle well in her heart to see him cry.
The tactician rose from her position to sit on the edge of the bed, resting a hand on his shoulder. "... Listen to me." Alihi said firmly, shaking him gently to get his attention. "I don't blame you. I don't hate you... I can't. I can't do either of those things." She wrapped her arms around him carefully, making sure not to agitate any of his wounds. Her voice softened, both in volume and tone. "... What happened is not your fault. You... can't blame yourself. You can't..." She sniffled softly, unable to hold back her own tears. It hurt... "Y-you aren't weak, Abel... you're not..."

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!" "The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!" At the time, she had no idea what was going on. She was on a mission of her own. When her opponent left the kitchen, she thought she had won, as she placed her tray on the counter to be served, and let out a victorious laugh. However, when she found out what had taken place, she wished she hadn't laughed. Her guards had failed in their duty, and she had been none the wiser of the happenings. Vaida could honestly care less about some little girl, but when it made her look bad, she took it personally. If Vaida had her way, that crow thief would end up dead.
After everybody had been evacuated from the castle, the guards came back to the Guards main area. Vaida was waiting for them. The shouting could be heard throughout half the entire castle. Nobody really reacted to it though. It had actually become a somewhat normal thing.
Mihira felt bad enough without listing to her captain's lectures. She had passed out, and then simply sat there in a daze until the incident happened, and it all happened too fast for her to really react. True, it would be hard to do anything in a dress, but she was a soldier. She could have made due. She promised herself she would make up for her failure. If not for herself, then for the poor mother who lost her child...
After Vaida had finished yelling, she spouted off a few orders, and stormed off to her office. She saw an extra chair. How convenient. A minute later, the chair was nothing more than discarded pieces all about the room. Poor innocent chair.. it should have known better than to allow itself to become the outlet for Vaida's anger. However, having vented, she went and sat down in her actual chair, and sighed.
She wouldn't be there long however, for one of her guards, obviously a very brave one, entered and told her that Rath had called her. Once he had delivered the message, the guard exited very swiftly, before he also became the outlet for his captain's anger. "Damn you, nomad..." She scoffed, as she stood back up, left her office, slammed the door to it, and stomped off to the vice captain's own office. "This had better be important."
Eventually, she made to the office door. However, instead of knocking, she thrust the door open and stomped in. She ignored the guards. What were they going to do, tell her to stop? They reported to her. She wouldn't give them a chance to try to stop her anyway, as she slammed the door shut and kept them out. "You were looking for me?" She crossed her arms and tapped her foot. "If you have something for me to do, then say so. If you called me here to complain about what happened, save it. The Guard will redeem its reputation!"

Rath sighed. "So she's here...." He didn't react as the loud... woman entered the room. He heard her coming from around five minutes away from his office, and warned the guards ahead of time to not stop her, lest they fall prey to the mighty predator. The last thing he wanted was to have to replace his guards after getting breast-slapped to death. He simply continued signing the paper he was working on, then calmly set his quill down, when he was finished with it.
"...If you're done, then listen carefully." He looked up at her, from his desk. "Send out all your flying scouts, in search of anybody who appears to be the intruder from last night. Exercise extreme caution, and thoroughness. And make sure the scouts do not stray from Learanian borders." He looked back down and grabbed his next paper. "...That is all. You may go." He then pretended to not know she was still in the room. If he had to sit there and listen to her of all people tease him about having his mind changed, he would surely lose control of his temper.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!" "The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!" Vaida stood there a moment, unsure if she had actually heard the orders correctly. Send out scouts? Seriously?! She had been told to have her units stand down, and now she has to send them out all of a sudden? She smirked. ...Perfect. "Sure thing! About time we got some action around here, too. I'll show you for sure. The Guard will not rest until the b***h is found!" She chuckled, unable to contain her giddiness about her new orders, as she made her way out of the room.
When she got back to the Guard main area, she looked around, and stared blankly for a moment. She then took just one deep breath. "Alright, listen up! I want ALL wyvern units prepped and ready to take off for scouting duty! Get your asses moving! Go, go, go!" About a dozen or more soldiers then frantically started rushing around, getting ready. Vaida made her way outside, where the wyverns were kept, and awaited for all the soldiers to finish getting ready. She would fill them in on the details of their mission then.
Mihira jumped as she heard the booming voice of her captain yet again. Something about... wyvern units getting ready? "I wonder what's..." She said to herself. Suddenly, the message got clear to her brain. "W-wait.. wyvern unit? That's me! Aiiieee!" She squealed as she ran to her quarters to get her things. She would get her wyvern ready after she had all her essentials.
When all the soldiers had finished getting prepared, they lined up in several rows, facing Vaida. She looked them over. "You've been called forth today, for a special mission. Your objective is simple. Locate the intruder from last night's party. Any crow in the sky you see will be stopped and secured! However, you have been given strict orders to not leave Learanian borders! If the culprit is still in this country, you will find her. Am I clear?!" The soldiers acknowledged their commander, with a resounding audible affirmation. "This is your chance to show the true skills of the Guard! You will achieve your goal! Dismissed! FLY!" With those closing words, the soldiers immediately rushed to their wyverns, and flew out into the skies.
Mihira as well had rushed to her small white wyvern, and took off quickly, in the south-western direction. She was determined to do her best. "I'll show the skill of the Guard! I won't let that poor mother down... I won't..."

Ordinarily, when someone was abducted, Ayra would care. She would grasp her duty with the strength she used to hold her sword in her hands, and focus on determining the identity of the assailant. Normally, she would be in the front lines, trying to figure out the fastest way to get the child back, and safe into the arms of her mother.
But...
That didn't matter to her, right now. While the conference encompassed most of the Crew, she had focused on getting the drunk adolescent man into bed, leaving him to sober up until he could tell her what the hell was going on. There were too many coincidences. Too many fears.
With the beginning of the dream, wounds that had been nearly healed were torn open again, roughly forcing her to deal with the agony of remembering. She wasn't perfect- no one was. Everyone had skeletons in their closets, everyone had their fair share of secrets that they didn't want to get out. To have both the dream and this new young man virtually screaming out her secrets to the world, though...
The prospect was frightening. It was so cold, the truth.
In life, there were always absolutes. The truth of deeds, however much one regretted them, would never fade; either one did a deed, or they didn't. There was nothing subjective about it. From the slaughter of an innocent to the running of a blade through the heart of a villain, from the cooking of an enemy's organs to the calm cradling of a baby against one's breast to calm its cries by night... life was laid out in a series of actions, deeds, words, and regrets.
And she knew that Tibarn had heard Dietrich's words.
The accusation was there, now, hanging in the already tense air.
There would be no running from the man who shared her bed.
"Let's go... back to the way it used to be. All of us."
Yes, memories and the truth were truly merciless. It was no use, to run from entities whose mounts knew no exhaustion and no excuses.
Leaning against the wall just outside of the office, Ayra waited for her husband to arrive. She would be in plain sight, arms crossed and her expression oddly sober. There was no use in running away.
Hearing the rustle of feathers, she barely looked up. Though her eyes moved up to meet his, it was for scarcely a moment; she couldn't stand to look at him. The fear of what she would see there was suddenly masked by a haze of frustration, which she suddenly embraced. Yes, better to feel anger than to be held in crux by fear.
"...I assume you heard him. The boy in the party. Go ahead. Hit me with questions, Tibarn."

Something moving in the emptinessSomething drew me near Someone told me of my future deedsWhispered them in my ear Tibarn sighed softly as he removed and hung up his belt, lowering his wings and stretching them out as he shrugged his shoulders. His coat slid back, slithering over the elegant feathered structures, and as it passed the second joint he arched them upward, flicking them a bit and lifting from the shoulders so that the collar caught on his coat rack. He had winced for a moment as his left arm had caught in the shoulder of his jacket, and he quietly sighed. He'd heard his wife, knew exactly what she was talking about, knew what he wanted to ask.
But he was going to make her wait. He was going to let her sit there, watching him get comfortable, unwinding and getting himself comfortable. It was a bit chilly in the room-- the fire was low, and his skin on his bare, battle-scarred chest pulled tight to his muscles. He glanced at Ayra, as if to simply acknowledge her, and wandered over to the fireplace, poking the embers a bit before tossing in another log. It didn't light immediately, and he slowly spread and flapped his wings to circulate air into it until the fresh log caught flame.
He reached for his left arm as he turned, rubbing it-- then winced again and once more resisted the temptation to scratch at his bandages. When he turned to face his wife, illuminated from the sight by the new yellow flame, shadows curled and swam around his eyes, but they could not disguise the fatigue. He had been waking up before Ayra the last few weeks, and she'd recently felt him awakening in the middle of the night or shifting as if trying to run or fly. His obsession with the meals for the party hadn't helped, and had been a worrisome addition to his existing fatigue. At one point a few days prior, he had fallen asleep in the middle of a conference with Vah's reading tutor. Now that he no longer had the party to drive him, he seemed to be stalling in the air. He'd been up all night dealing with the kidnapping, but there was none of the normal ferocity with which the Hawk King attacked his agenda.
He blinked slowly, then sighed. "Ayra," he said, "Yes. I did hear him. I knew you were married when I fell in love with you. At the same time, I was certain you had no children with your husband. You are still young, for a beorc-- too young for..." He closed his eyes. "From Jugdral. Why," he murmured. It was less a question than it was a simple statement, a single word that summed up the frustration, the fear, and the ultimate disappointment that had plagued him the last eight hours. "Why would you keep that secret from me? What, was I to find out when your ex-husband arrived? Or your child? Or... your grandchild? I love you, Ayra. Why would you hide this from me?" He had turned to look at the fire, and his wings twitched as anger and fear hitched in his chest, the anger and fear that had been simmering since the party. When he turned to look at her again, his eyes were narrowed to a sharp glare.
"How can I trust you when you can't trust me?"From darkness I steppedOnto the paths of starsThis sky is mine...
