"Lee ain't an outsider," Rory replied, rubbing Ki Du's offered tummy. "She wis born one, but she ain't one now. She's part o' th' clan. Even more so once w're married."

"She looks and sounds and behaves as one, though. She's no different than I am. Aside from social status, that is..." Lydia went back to scrubbing, and soon was satisfied with the area she was working with, sitting up and looking at the dog, making sure Ki Du didn't plan to mark any more territory while she was here.

"Maybe, but she's part o' the clan. Besides, I love her. She sees me fae who I am. She donnae judge me on me eyes or other superstitious trite," Rory said, rolling the puppy around on the floor. Ki Du wriggled free and bounded around the room, yipping, then bobbled over to Lydia and looked up at her before putting it's head down, wriggling it's bottom in the air and wanting to play.

Lydia cocked an eyebrow, looking from Rory to the puppy and back again. Rory wouldn't like her as much if she didn't like his dog, right? Holding back a sigh, Lydia patted Ki Du's head, looking as uncomfortable as she was. "If you haven't noticed, there are quite a few young girls in this house that would love to get to know you... no one here minds your eyes. Least of all me." She said this with as little emotion as possible, trying to keep her focus on the dog in front of her, and trying to keep her eyes from watering too much from the puppy's dander.

"That's just 'cause you donnae know th' superstitions. Lee does an' she donnae care," Rory said, drawing one knee up to rest his arms on. "Why d'you care so much about me an' Lee anyway? She's a good girl."

Lydia had to keep her eyes from wandering down as she spoke to him, half the time looking down at the dog just to keep herself from noticing that Rory clearly wore no underwear. "I know that you can speak to the dead. I asked you about my mother, remember?" She bit her lip, not daring to look at the boy as she answered his question. "I've known Miss Lee for a long time now. Of course I'd be curious..."

Rory shrugged. "Figure you'd be more or less tryin' t' convince her this relationship is bad, not me." He put one hand behind him to brace himself as he leaned back, his knee still draw up, his other leg outstretched. Ki Du bounded over to Rory, rear feet not stopping as quick as his front ones, and bowled into the boy's leg then tried climbing over him. Rory idly patted the puppy's bottom as his little back feet kicked about, trying to get over the boy's thigh. "Lydia, can I ask you somethin'?"

Lydia blushed, wanting to tell him that she wasn't convincing him of any such thing, but found she didn't have the heart to lie a second time. Ignoring the puppy, who she somehow didn't find as cute as she should have, the girl's heart skipped a beat at his question with both worry and hope. "You may, yes..."

"What be your interest in me anyhow? You always seem t' want t' talk wi' me an' you gae out o' your way t' be around so you can strike up a conversation," Rory said, stroking Ki Du's back, the puppy having given up trying to get over the boy's thigh and fallen asleep.

The servant girl's eyes wandered a bit, unsure what to tell him. She certainly couldn't be honest. He'd never want to speak with her again after that. But she didn't want to lie, either. Clearing her throat lightly, she decided to give him facts, not necessarily pertaining to his question, though they might sound as if they were all the answer he needed. "My brother very much fancies Miss Lee. He wanted to know what kind of a person you were -- wondered if he should give up thinking someday she'd notice him if you were as wonderful a guy as he imagined you must be to gain her interest." She was hoping it sounded as if her brother put her up to this, but he hadn't. She didn't lie, not once. She misled.

"Ah. Well, hate t' break it t' you brother, but Lee an' me ain't splittin' anytime soon," Rory said, shrugging.

Lydia nodded, giving the boy a weak smile. "I didn't think so." Sighing a bit, she picked up her supplies, glancing up at the boy, finding this to be a rather good time to make her move. "One of the doormen keeps some beer in the servants' quarters, if you're interested... I could bring some up for you." The word "beer" sounded so dirty to her, for some reason, and she hoped she wouldn't have to drink any along with him.

Lydia bit her lip, standing and removing the gloves she'd had on, brushing off her dress as best she could. "How soon do you want it?" She smiled at the boy, trying to keep the mischief out of her expression.

"I wouldnae be opposed t' haen some now," Rory chuckled, scooping Ki Du up and standing to go lie down on the bed with the puppy.
