Amoreth

Silence took hold of her for a moment. Him calling her a runt was hardly something she could blame him for--that's what she had always been, in body anyway. Her hardiness and strength of will more than made up for that, and she didn't take as much offense to it as she thought she would. Besides, he had said he wasn't a social person. Perhaps he didn't put it the way he truly meant to.

"It would seem that is the case," she said finally, still a bit shaken by slight vertigo. "And that would mean that little boy.. was you."
As she spoke, her left hand rose and her index finger pointed at him, as if to emphasize her indication. Elation replaced the vertigo, and with a happy sound, she leapt out of her seated position to land on the grass beside him, clasping his hand while laughing cheerfully.
"I never got to thank you for your help! You said your name was Leicha, right? Thank you, Leicha!"
Amoreth lay there on her stomach, beaming up at him. Her outgoing personality shone through as she seemed to be completely unafraid of approaching or, indeed, touching him. It was more of an impulsive reaction, but it was one she didn't really think through before executing.

Leicha thought about yanking his hand back for a moment, not really in the mood to be touched and feeling certainly less sociable since the sun was now rising higher in the sky, but the girl on her stomach next to him was honestly thanking him. He wasn't so much of a deadglow as to stomp off and refuse to acknowledge her gratitude, even if it was for something that had happened a long, long time ago.

"It's not really a big deal. Leaving you behind would have been more trouble than its worth and, like I said, I know how it feels to be lost and without anyone. Hopefully now you're old enough to know better and stay out of places you've never been, right?"

He could sound like was lecturing, but Leicha too often let his feet wander around and carry him to parts of the Weyr he hadn't visited since his younger turns. Many spots he couldn't get to anymore, some because of damage over time, though most of them were due to how large he'd grown. Leicha wasn't the tallest person around, but he still wasn't the same three-foot brat that used to run the halls.

Inwardly he wondered how much longer she would hold on to his hand, how much more comfortable she would seem around him, before he would get irritated and walk off. There was only so much interaction he could take this early (or in general) and Amoreth was slowly eating away his store of talking for the day. Not a real loss, but still.

Pondering his question, she released his hand in favor of folding her body into a sitting position beside him, resting her elbows on her knees to answer him.
"If we all stayed out of places we'd never been, how could new places be discovered?"
The question wasn't really one she was too intent on getting answered, more of food-for-thought than anything else. Indeed, the light of the sun grew brighter around them as if they were suspended in their state of conversation and the day was progressing without the two. Amoreth was content to stay here and learn even more of her new friend -or old acquaintance,rather- but she knew that was out of the question. Time for duty and responsibility was drawing dangerously close, and as she hadn't had breakfast, that meant she'd have to hurry to get them done so she could take an early lunch.

"Where has the morning gone?" she inquired with a wistful sigh as the slow heat of the sun's rays lapped at her face, "I've kept more of your time than I thought."
She laughed quietly and apologetically, rising to her feet before stretching a hand out in an offering to help him up as well.
"I must say, I'm quite shocked to've caught you here. All circumstances considered, today is quite a fortunate one indeed."

A grin stretched across her lips, exposing the teeth shielded within in a bright expression.
"I've enjoyed the morning--thank you for making it even more enjoyable."
She wasn't intending her words as a farewell, more of a 'hope to see you later' mention than anything else.

I really hope I don't run into her again.

Leicha stretched his arms once more after the girl had spoken, slowly rising up to his feet. A morning breeze swept past and ruffled his hair, sending it about his face, and he frowned as he pulled it down with his fingers. He'd ignored Amoreth's extended hand, but it was mostly because he felt he could do it himself.

"I don't know about things like fortune or fate, but either way I'm going to go on ahead, so I'll see you later."

The lanky candidate strode off towards the door, barely looking back over his shoulder as he spoke words of good-bye. Instead he waved his hand over his shoulder and quickly turned a corner, his pace picking up to get back to his room in time to prepare things for the lessons.

It would have to be another sevenday before he'd even think about being social now.
