Tux Guitar ish free. Thus I use it XD. It runs Guitar Pro stuff, so I don't see why people have to buy Guitar Pro.

I tried out Tux Guitar, so I can tell you why...

As far as I could figure out, you couldn't balance the tracks on the fly (like changing the volumes in the middle of a song) and you couldn't change the instruments in the middle of a song for a certain track. There's a lot of things that Tux Guitar has to learn, but it's a good start for them.

I'm still anticipating GP 6 ;] It's gonna be great.

Got guitar pro with the RSEs from a torrent, I am so disappointed with the RSEs so far, sounds terrible, but meh, I've only composed like twice with guitar pro, and I mostly just find guitar pro tabs from ultimate-guitar.com to see how songs go and such

I don't use the RSE until I'm "recording" my songs. I always have my drums MIDI and my distorted guitars IRL are "Overdriven" on GP.

It's great for composing band songs once you get good with it. I've heard AMAZING things come out of it, and I've done amazing things with it.

Just keep learning. There's a bit of a learning curve right in the beginning, but that's how it is with any new program.

If anyone would be willing to check out my GP tab here is a GP4 and a GP5 of my most recent song in GP:

EDIT: Just a warning, if anyone opens it, it's Metal in the vein of Periphery (Djenty), but a bit more ambienty than they are.

Defining a Heavenly Body GP5
Defining a Heavenly Body GP4

This is the most complex I've gotten with GP, but I've seen other things miles above this in complexity and stuff.
