"Oh, U'tuhlroo, why?" She certainly did get a reaction. His ears swiveled to face her direction and a bemused expression flickered across his face.

"Going on a raid, it just doesn't sound like something you would do. I know you don't agree with it." He spoke slowly, controlling the words that slipped from his maw, otherwise he would of seemed upset, something he didn't want to show. He didn't exactly like the fact that she would put herself in danger doing something she hated just because he planned on going.

U'tuhlroo somehow managed not to grin when she finally seemed to have hit a sore spot. Cowslip seemed at least a little bit bothered, and if she stayed firm he might change his mind just to make her change her mind. It might just work! And she didn't have any better ideas so this would simply have to do...

"To make sure you don't get yourself killed," she stated, firmly sticking to her story, "And I'm not against helping our warren out any way I can. Besides, who else do you think will look out for you out there? That Owsla you talked about? Are any of your friends going?"

She did not like the idea of a raid, that was true, but sometimes you didn't hear how stupid something sounded until you heard someone else say it. U'tuhlroo started to feel really smug about her plan, but she was careful not to let her face show it.

"Well..."

He tugged at an ear with his paws, washing it repeatedly as he mulled over his response to the questions she posed. Of course he really didn't truly know any of the rabbits he was aware of going so far, but that hardly changed anything in his mind.

"You are pretty tough and I don't know much about the others going. But I think I can look after myself well enough while we are at the farm. I came from one, after all. I guess, if you want to help out the warren..."

He trailed off for a moment as he rubbed his paws over himself once more.

"I still don't exactly feel comfortable with you coming along if you don't want to go on raids in the first place."

U'tuhlroo very much liked the reaction she seemed to provoke in Cowslip. He was starting to doubt this, wasn't he? Or was it just wishful thinking from her side? No, her plan had to be working, she just had to keep it up a little while longer.

"I'm willing to do my duty," she said stubbornly, "And even if you come from a farm you've never entered one without an invitation. You got out all right, but will you be able to get in again? No, there's no helping it. If you go, I'll go too."

There. No turning back now. He would either crumble and change his mind or... or she would have to go on the raid. Hraka. But he would change his mind, she was certain of it.

"Well..." He paused for a moment, seriously debating what she said.

But he had already told the officer he would be going. There wouldn't be any way to win back that respect, would there? If only he knew the true intentions of the others and how many of the officers truly felt, perhaps his own tune would of changed rather quickly.

But he was still young in mind and heart. He was still brash and wanted to prove his mettle, but he was certain he wouldn't end up like those dumb youngsters that lost their lives due to stupidity. He was smarter than that...

Right?

"We'll have to be quick on our paws, won't we? I'm pretty sure I can do it."

Shouldn't he tell her he had changed his mind right about... now? But there was still time before the raid. She just had to let it sink in, let him think about it. For a fleeting moment she considered backing out of her bluff and telling him that it had just been a joke. She could still get away with that, but it would be a cowards way out, and U'tuhlroo did not want to be a coward. Besides, if she backed out now he would definitely go on that stupid raid. Better to take the chance.

"We'll have to be quick on our paws, won't we? I'm pretty sure I can do it."

"I know I am," U'tuhlroo said with a playful grin, "But how about you?"

And with that she briefly touched her nose to his and then playfully leapt backwards in an unmistakeable invite to play. Without looking back to see if he was going to follow she bolted away, enjoying the age old game of chase.

"Something's got to make up for this dreadful pelt."

The spotted buck grinned sheepishly as U'tuhlroo bounded back after she touched his nose. Was he too old to play? Never. The buck was much like a big, splotched kitten in mind and thought. She didn't look back, nor did she need to. He followed eagerly, his paws kicking through soil as he bounded after her, enjoying a game after the more somber and depressing conversation.

Yes, things would be right in the end. He just had to keep his chin up.
