"You like bugs?!" He was a weird male and that certainly impressed him on some level. His shifty nature seemed to be relaxing, ever so slightly, as he remained in her company longer. Usul didn't want to get too eager though, she didn't seem a very talkative type and nothing she did implied that she was interested in a friendship or otherwise.
"You .. uhh.." He wanted to have a conversation but he had no idea what to talk about. He didn't converse often. "Family? You have family.. maybe babies or many male mates.. I am sure."
His awkward conversation topics hit him and he flinched, at himself, for seeming like a dolt. "I.. uhh.. sorry. Not many come around here. Not a lot of companions."
For once Usul's embarrassment registered as truly genuine and he hung his head, snuffling a mushroom pathetically.

Marrowmourn had been intent on getting that critter, that was, until he had asked about family.
For reasons unknown to even herself she fell still, her back slowly straightening up as she draw herself into a sitting posture then slowed turned her head to blink at Usul.
"No family" she spoke, again very softly, then let her gaze fall to the mushroom he was sniffing at.
"I want young, they are hard to find" she admited, her face fell into a frown as she though about one of his other questions.
"males? no, not many males... maybe one..."
tilting her head sharply suddenly, looking suddenly genuinely curious.
"do you have young?"

Usul noticed the change in her posture and that she seemed slightly more eager to talk. He looked less ashamed, sitting up himself.
"No family either." He licked a paw clean and wiped over his head feathers. When she spoke of possibly having one male he wondered if she was the type of female who stayed with one male her whole life. He couldn't tell those things.. he was bad with the ladies.
"Lucky male.." He looked away while he delivered the compliment. "I have no children.." He'd never mated, never had the opportunity. This also was slightly embarrassing.
"I found an egg once. I was out... gathering." Stealing would have been more accurate. "A female came and.." He rubbed his feathers again to hide a small hairline scar on his brow. That female kicked his a**. "I gave it to her."

"I have never looked for an egg before..." she admired, though for a moment she looked puzzled, as if confused with herself why she had not have searched for one yet.
tilting her head as she looked back to Usul, as he told a story about when he found an egg, then had to give it to a female, her expression showed that she was not surprised. but that didn't make what happened any less unfortunate for Usul
"I'm sorry, perhaps someday you can find another one"

Usul drifted back to the cave's entrance and peeked out once more for any intruders or thieves before drifting back inside. The sun was getting higher now that the morning was passing into afternoon and the air, though slightly chilly, was warming up. The cave, of course, stayed the same temperature.
"I dunno.. I can't imagine that I would uh.. you know.. be very good at raising a little one." He couldn't imagine a child fitting into his lifestyle very well. But the eggs were pretty. Very pretty. Just that thought was enough to possibly urge him into acquiring another in the future.
"You would probably do good." She seemed responsible and mature. "As a .. mom or.. guardian or.. ya know.. But not many eggs now that winter is comin on. Seen lotsa little kids alone though.."
Usul tried not to be too invasive on the subject of children. Many females were depressed about their low fertility rate. Some were downright violent.
"So.." He looked around the cave again. Some of his eyes seemed distracted, a set were looking (again) at her necklace, and another alert pair looked intently for bugs along the cave walls. "..what's your male like?"
Any news of other people was interesting. Facts and clues about others and where they lived helped him in his collecting.

Marrowmourn was not sure what to say about the comment that she would be a good mother... she honestly had no clue if she would or not... she wondered how he could tell.
“My Male?” she asked, a little taken aback by the question, she didn’t know if she could consider him her male. She was curious about him, yes, she found herself wanting to be around him, but like she was with everything, she just didn’t understand how to feel about him
“Morgr’un” she started
“That’s his name, he’s dead… well, kind of”
it occurred to her after she said it, just how strange that must have sounded to someone that did not know Morgr’un, or see him for themselves.
She watched Usul as he went over to the cavern entrance, peering out as if to look for someone out there. Her feathers bristled, wondering if he had heard someone, but when he pulled back in, not looking worried, or followed by anyone, the feathers smoothed down again, Lowering her head to the ground instead to sniff lightly for bugs.

Morgr'un? Usul had never heard the name.
"He's dead? Kind of dead..? Uh.." Usul had heard of things in these forests, especially amongst the Di'Taki, that were strange. A 'kind of dead' male was maybe stranger than the ghosts stories that floated around.
"He sounds..." nice? terrible? "unique." Usul coughed a little. Some half dead male was walking around with attractive females interested in him and Usul couldn't even get a plain normal female interested in himself. He wanted to inquire, find out about this male. Information could get you a long way sometimes, but his self deprecating thoughts had ruined his mood.
"Seen any humans?" His ears perked, feathers rising as he brought up a subject that interested him. Usul sometimes stalked the borders of the forests close to human settlement. He always hid but ALWAYS looked for things of theirs to collect. Human objects, no matter how strange, were his particular subject of interest. If she asked, he'd be sure to tell Marrowmourn about them.
The change of topic raised his spirits and he looked a little less down all of a sudden.
